Socialising in Gyms

A friend suggested joining gyms with predominantly gay users as a means for me to get to know more gay friends and (hopefully) find a partner.

He suggested the above since I don't pub, club, spa, sauna, and have had no luck in dating apps.

What do you guys think, or does anyone have any experiences or stories to share and inspire? :)

If you generally keep to yourself (much like myself), you will face the same problem in the gym as do anywhere else: Not initiating conversation and/or avoiding eye contact. It's a pain.

Yeah sure you'll get opportunities to meet with new people - as long as you're sociable!

Relationship is akin to a butterfly, the more u chase, the more it will fly away.

One day, it will land on u when u least expect.

After I have said what I wanna say, I don't care what you say.

I have met people and made friends at the gym. This took a while, but it can be a relatively good place to socialise. Go at a regular time. You will see that after a while, there will be familiar faces. You may start with a nod and smile at first and after a while, you just strike up a conversation since you both have something in common- i.e. being at the gym around the same time.

Another way is to take classes.

Try not to hog on machines if you are socializing. Save it for the water cooler.

Love.

Unless you have a fit bod and/or handsome look, the gay guys in the gym usually won't even bother to look at you.

Rubbish!  You proclaim a generalization that may not have any truth in it.

In my long experience in gyms,  they don't facilitate nor hinder socializing.   Hopefully your purpose to be in a gym is to work out.

For optimum gym experience,  don't compare yourself with others.  Gain confidence, assertiveness by realizing that even the most glamorous guys there have their handicaps and limitations, and therefore are not national champions. So there is no need to feel inferior.  Instead maintain a friendly attitude and be courageous.

Contrary to morten's assertion, you may not be the only gay in the gym who is not a top fit, top handsome but instead looks forwards to socialize.  There are opportunities to interact with others,  like asking how long they will hold some equipment, or if you can work in.  Friendly interactions can escalate and people can become acquaintances if seeing each other often.
