I myself have not explored any of gay bars/club scene over here but i do want to take this chance to bring him around to take a look since he is gay (and im discreet about it). Any recommendations? There are 2 gay bars at Tanjong Pagar, yes, 2 means a lot in Singapore. you spend 1 hour at each of the bar, so it means you can finish your gay tour in 2 hours time, it is very time saving. For the size of the city, there should be between six to ten gay bars/dance clubs. Singapore government could take some pink dollars, since it could offer a more upscale alternative to BKK. And is Backstage still arounda few streets away in Chinatown? And the of course Taboo is the dance club as well as the granddaddy of Singapore gay nightlife. It's not exactly a place to socialise especially when you don't drink as well. People there are usually cliqueish and have regular groups. More places to stand or sit, both inside and outside, at least when it's not crowded. The biggest issue is the staff always checking to see whether you have guzzled down your drink and pressuring you to buy another. Worst is the females. One of the bonus benefits of going to gay bars is supposed to be getting served by cute waiters. Not interested in misplaced waitresses. Taboo is what passes for a gay nightclub centered on dancing in Singapore. The music is loud, and the atmosphere is most fun when it is crowded, and that's when you can sometimes find someone on the dancefloor who wants you to grind behind him or vice versa. But when there aren't so many people it is boring. There is a cover charge at the door, unlike at the drinking bars, which is usually $25 but the price is sometimes higher for special events and during public holidays. The other main drinking bars are DYMK (Does Your Mother Know) which is a few doors down from Taboo and across the street from Tantric, May Wong's which is located above Tantric, and Dorothy's (I think that's the correct name) which has taken over the former Backstage location on Trengganu Street in Chinatown. DYMK is a kind of cramped space and the table-based set-up can be intimidating. May Wong's and Dorothy's, similar to Tantric, sometimes have many foreigners.
