With some holiday time approaching, was looking to know of some nice spots in Singapore for a good cup of coffee, and a comfortable ambience suitable for reading. Any must visit cafes in SG ?

You don't have a bachelor pad you called home to retreat to?

I did try a few cafes in Thomson, Novena last week. Would recommend craftsmen specialty coffee (gold hill plaza) and habitat coffee (Thomson road) for folks hanging around these areas - though couldn’t find places with comfortable seating for long hours of reading. They sure have good cups of flat white and long black

nowadays good cafes are shit crowded with people or students, especially during weekends.

Actually Wanna Cuppa opp clarke quay central is a relatively quiet and peaceful cafe if u wanna chillax. Coffee is just average though...aircon quite strong too (might need a jacket).

There used be quite a range of coffee shops at this area around the Tiong Bahru conservation 4 storey flat houses

Some have a great pastry concept, once you step in, you just can't resist to try some of the pastries with your cuppa....

here is a recent guide .

Note:  the guide is an addition to an earlier one, the first cafe openings at the area are at the opening chapter of the guide.

But with Covid-19 around not sure, if they all survived....

The only thing: watch out for the opening hours or operations hours, even before Covid-19 some have their own opening policy and could be even closed on a Sunday...

(work life balance , ha ha)

Looks nice.

Any comments on the coffee quality?

Smooth, great taste and great aroma! You'll want to come back again and again...

They're very atas about their coffee beans ....

But I can't remember where the beans came from though.

The ambience is good especially with friends.

But always busy...

Most likely through the backside of a raccoon?

Like Jalan Besar/Lavender area, Tiong Bahru is definitely an area with lots of great coffee.

Forty Hands is my fave.

Be careful not to drink it in the afternoon, because the coffee is so strong I can't sleep at night! 😉

Agree.

Forty Hands and Tiong Bahru bakery are always busy most of the time esp. weekends.

Drip Bakery has nice fruit tarts.

ok I don't drink coffee but my boyfriend is an addict, thus these are his vicarious recommendations:

1. Flash Coffee - they have 5 stores here:

https://flash-coffee.com/stores/

2. Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee - mentioned by @amicablyalan earlier:

https://www.tionghoe.com/

3. J.Co Donuts & Coffee - they used to be at quite a few places but sadly only 2 outlets are left. He was saying the coffee is actually surprisingly delicious there haha:
