Canto-pop 2020s

There are quite a lot of Cantonese songs which are cover versions of popular Japanese and English songs in the 80s and perhaps early 90s.

Some examples:

(1) Markita vs Sandy Lam

(2) Koji Kikkawa vs Leslie Cheung

This was actually a song by the Eighth Wonder,

and Martika covered it...

I'm not sure if this is a good place to ask, but might need help with learning cantonese, and maybe a playlist of the more popular 80s or 90s canto songs.

reason: volunteering with elderly who are showing signs of dementia. Have one beneficiary mostly speaking Cantonese and like listening to Cantonese songs.

Speaking loudly, suffers softly. Smiles so wide, cuts unseen inside.

Bitin' the bullet, but never kick the bucket.

Hey. No worries. This is for a good cause :) A few questions pls:

1. Can you understand Cantonese?

2. Does the beneficiary understand Mandarin? Let me know how I can help.

3. How old is the beneficiary? This would be useful for me to compile the playlist.

Given his age, I think a big majority of the Cantopop songs from the mid 80s to 90s would not resonate much with him. My sense is that they would be too "modern" for him. Would instead suggest the more traditional and super classic Cantopop songs - below is a great playlist that you may use.

If you find Mandarin hard to learn, Cantonese would be 10 times more challenging because of its tonal system. SOS. I also don't know how to teach you. You can PM me and we shall see how it goes.

Tracks #11 & #12 are evergreens & will be a good start,

almost every Cantonese, both young and old will know these tunes.

忙到不知幾點 你共我為何遇見

各有終點 去到終點 何曾活好今天

和每天講再見 每夜也為理想去睡眠

睡到想工作 想貢獻

He's very lucky to have Wyman Wong to pen the lyrics for him!!!

Wyman was once Miriam Yeung's (楊千嬅) bff (dunno about now though),

besides 林夕, he was partly responsible for making her famous in a short span of time too...

And Paco Wong pushed very hard for Miriam to become a diva in HK.

Another new song from Jer, is he tipped to be the next 姜濤?

Possible although he is a bit lacking in terms of idol qualities, unlike 姜B, Ian and Anson Lo.

Cos what we have is good time, good time, good time

Whether they are bad times, tough time, down time

時代有時很差 不必 心淡

what we have is good time, good time, good time

共我一起 末世中轉圈
