Muscle guy versus unfit guy...  isn't it a little like comparing apples with oranges?  Shouldn't it rather be:

 

Fit guy versus unfit guy.  And: muscle guy versus slim guy.  

 

The easiest decision is:  FIT guy is always preferable to UNFIT guy.  It is the same as HEALTHY is better than UNHEALTHY.

 

As for the amount of muscle  (muscle guy versus slim)...  I go for someone closer to the slim side.  They say that meat tastes better the closer it is to the bone.  I find more beauty, which is what attracts me,  in the slim well proportioned one.

No one needs to be unfit (unless he has health problems).  There are enough gyms around and info on how to work out. 

 

But a body full of built-up muscles reveals a compulsion that not always has a positive motivation.

 

There is a time when building muscle and strength should be a priority: when preparing later in life for an old age where sufficient muscles and strength are needed for extending our healthy life.

I don’t get your last point - building muscle and staying fit should be a priority at any stage. Sure, some of it is rooted in vanity but there’s nothing at all wrong with wanting to look better naked, getting stronger is just a big plus.

The ideal is to build muscle as a teen and early adult,  and then work out to PRESERVE muscle and strength.   What is the point of keeping BUILDING muscle all through life?  When is enough... enough?   The answer is simple: a person who is never satisfied with the way he looks and thinks that bigger-is-better,  will struggle to keep building muscle.   

 

With advanced age comes progressive muscle atrophy, also called sarcopenia, where the loss of muscle equals or surpasses the regeneration of muscle.  So the typical workout that was fine in early and middle age is not sufficient to maintain the musculature,  and one has to work harder, kind of what a younger bodybuilder does.  This is my state in life, and I know that one can into the 80s maintain and even rebuild muscle one may have lost. This is the time when building muscle is important.  

 

About the FETISH-ON-MUSCLE-GUY:  This fetish will naturally make one desire to have big muscles, and it can lead to this,  but so much greater is the disappointment later in life when the muscles start vanishing.  In contrast, a fit but lean guy will not have much problems becoming a fit and lean senior, feeling still handsome instead of out of shape and old.

Agree.  Working out is beneficial to the body, young or old.  The fact is, if you don't build and maintain muscles when you are still young, you will face mobility issue when you become old.

Not true, excessive carrying of weight can put a stress on your knees and hasten your joint problems.  Muscular is not the same as being healthy.  A muscular guy may consumed 100 pieces of hamburger, a day. An unfit guys is not able to carry 100kg of weight.    Please don't compare muscle with unfit because the latter may lead a healthy diet life than the former.

There is no need to be excessive or extreme. When we grow old, we start losing muscles, that's natural and nothing new.  The best way to maintain them is to start younger rather than later.

Yes, it is easier to maintain our musculature when young than when old.  But we must accept the increased difficulty of maintaining muscles when we are aging, ...  because it's the period of life when this is the most important.  And when we are old, we don't have too many other obligations and things to do.

Right.  When we aged, muscles is needed to keep us mobile or at the minimum,  able to walk with little assistance.  Else, we would be bed ridden.
