Nobody will buy an axe online, smuggle it into school to kill a random guy because of studies or exams stress.

It must be accumulated grievance, distress or trauma and some wrong that was never properly tackled, acknowledged or redressed by the school, knowing well the lapse in our education system in addressing LGBT bullying issues from all the reports we have read from Oogachaga, Sayoni and Hecking Unicorn.

There are many cases online, worldwide whereby killers kill for the sheer joy of killing.

Many times they do not even know their victims. It's just bad luck that the victim just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Of course, I do not know if this applies to this case, but we are all speculating because we do not know enough.

I feel the same too. But they said the killer and the victim do not know each other. Really? Someone bought an axe online to kill a random guy in a elite school? I cannot believe what i read. This is Singapore, not US...

Many countries have cases whereby the killers just randomly chose their victims. In Taiwan, I remember there was a guy who went on a killing spree on the MRT.

And again in Taiwan, a man snatched a little girl from his mother and decapitated her. Killer did NOT know the child nor the mother.

What brought tears reading this was the poor little boy had ‘multiple’ wounds, how tragic someone so young had to endure so much pain not knowing why.

Er..... You do know Singapore is not america right? They have all the crazy things going all over the country from both illegal to the downright wacko that will never ever happen in boring Singapore, like what you often read in all their crazy news. Singaporeans are not THAT wild and crazy yet. Elite school student with  bright future will act like a savage hacking complete stranger from the same school out out if a sudden just for the thrill of it? Actually can school mates who share the same toilet and canteen daily be considered as totally random and complete strangers to each other? They don't have to know each other's name to dislike each other or even bully or pick on one another when they bump into each other daily on school premises. Calling them complete strangers is quite the stretch, maybe even total lie to cover up bullying issues in schools ignored by school staffs especially if LGBT related.

1. Mentally ill people do exist in Singapore.

2. Smart students in elite schools can get mentally ill.

3. People who may walk past you daily but whom you never interacted with are still considered strangers.

4. Thrill killing can involve just one victim.

5. Details of the case are still unclear.

Mentally ill people do exist in spore, or rather in the whole world.

But for this case, what causes this 16 year-old boy to be so mentally stress(i do not want to use the word "ill") ?? Because he was bullied for two years?.... Ignore by his teacher when he complianed about the unfair treatment?... discrimination???

It is so easy to talk grandmother story in parliament and label it as a "mental illness" case and get everything swipe under the carpet.

That, I suppose, is why he is now under remand at IMH for psychiatric examination.

It has been revealed that he had attempted suicide 2 years earlier, long before the victim had come into the school. He clearly has had a history of serious "mental stress".

More details will be out when his case is heard in court.

1. Many, if not most mentally ill people are victims of targeted and protracted bullying and abuses by others, most of the time stemming from sexual, emotional and/or physical abuse and neglect in childhood that predisposes them to be more vulnerable and subjected to bullying by others, even their peers as they grow up, even up til adulthood.

2. Smart students getting this mentally ill to suddenly hack another using axe in school environment must have some serious underlying causes. The strongest and best minds can also be overcome by bullying, grief and stress.

3. Nobody knows for sure if the two ever had an underground relationship or acquaintance.

4. Where is the thrill in killing just one. Why not kill one more?

5. It may never become clear in Singapore, when our PM insists gays are accepted and cherished members of society and never discriminated against, justifying the retention of S377A for the vast majority of his electorate especially his voters who are most definitely conservative.

1.  Possibly. Sometimes there are no obvious causes/reasons too.

2. The serious underlying causes are for the doctors at IMH to find out through psychiatric examination.

3. Since nobody knows for sure, then wait patiently for more investigation to take place. The current investigation is that they don't know each other. Do you have info/evidence otherwise? If so, please approach the police.

4.  I get enough thrill from taking a roller coaster ride once, but some may like to keep taking the ride over and over again. I don't have reason to think that thrill killers can't similarly have different preferences.

5. I don't see the link between this case and S377A. Unless you have privy to exclusive info, it's better to just wait for more details to be revealed in court.

1. It can be genetic or environmental or both. Sometimes can be due to physical brain trauma and other bodily, physical including hormonal ailments too.

2. IMH doctors are politically correct govt puppets and hardly professional acting or even ethical. Just refer to what one of their puppeted directors said about homosexuality in court during the most recent S377A constitutional challenge. Does that sound like the gospel truth to anyone? It is only because we have no choice that we have to rely on them in matters of courts in Singapore because they are 'prefered' by judges.

3. You blindly trust our SPF TOO MUCH. They don't know each other is likely based on statements from classmates of both. That can hardly be called investigation.

4. Roller coaster ride takes minutes to complete, and much thrill can be derived. Slashing one person with an axe takes just one second, and he will probably be dead the next second.

5. Read between the lines of statements by Halimah. Juxtapose that with blanket ban on media. Court relies on IMH accessment. IMH is government institution, will toe the line and release only political correctness filtered statements.

They are now debating about exams stress and taking away certain topics and subjects to lighten students' exam load. Yes that is definitely going to prevent further slashing inccidents in schools in future.

Everything also can blame on exam stress lol

Then next time work stress, workers will start slashing one another and their boss. And parliament will debate about minimal days of annual leave and extend it to match France's 60 days.

That will be nice lol

When will the trial likely to be?

So IMH may not likely tell the "whole" truth (nothing but the truth) ..... sigh!

Yes everyone in the every institution of this system will conspire to completely sing the same tune to present it as due to yet another inexplicable and unnamed mental illness or study stress.

Since when got any robust debate in our parliament before? *Yawn*

You think the public will ever get to know the truth meh?

I would not dare to say "never ever can happen in Singapore".

The difference is that in Singapore guns are not as easily available as in the US.

Maybe when the case goes to Court and you still remember it, then we may learn new details...

In the end we will only get a very heavily filtered "truth" (half truth or even blatant lie) that doesn't even remotely resemble any coherent or logical explanation at all.

Just so the inconvenient, uncomfortable, "sensitive" and politically inexpedient (likely LGBT) bullying issue WILL BE COMPLETELY SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET, like someone mentioned earlier.

Then it is again business as usual. And the real issue is never actually addressed at the end.

That's the wayang in our sg politics for you.

This is too simplistic !

No 1 seems to shift blame to other people and not to the culprit.

You can't say the cause for people getting mental ill is MOSTLY due to bullying or abuses by other people.

In some cases childhood experiences may lead to mental illnesses.

But there are plenty who fail to see their personal problems and then start pushing blame for their own wrongs to other parties. (The mother was too strict, the father gave away the only pet during childhood, the brother felt he was treated unfairly and always blamed while his brother was treated better (which might not be true).

There are so many causes for mental illness.

Maybe this case is not anything about mental illness at all but revenge or a reaction to something serious.

Sometimes it just needs little to cause a pipe to burst....

From my view most LGBT themed topics here are broadly mentioned in the media and often I feel they are excessively discussed in the media just when it comes to anything 'gay".

Look at the rainbow flag incident or this other guy who wrote bad about gays just some week ago.

So if you are a gay student, teacher, principal, vice principal, admin stuff, MOE staff (whether high or low rank), better keep low profile, declare straight and stay in the closet and find your activities elsewhere ah? 😔

People working for the govt are usually characteriscally (intentionally) quite dull. Such a chore explaining things to them.

They are dulled by beureacracy, steep hierarchy, stiffling internal politics, cubicle hermit, time watchers, heavily stocked with book smart young people and time wasting retirees.  Responsibilites are limited, often going by the book, a known template adhere to standard question and reply and nothing more, lest you get into trouble for exercising discretion.

And they remain out of touch with reality outside of work, self-entitled to their narrow-minded opinions, childish attitude and arrogant stubbornness too. Urgh. 😱

Feel sorry one innocent life fly just like that may he rest in peace. During this pandemic regardless age and gender go tru hard difficult moment as the freedom is limited as well unpredictable and not seem consistant. This make some people feel pressurise by each individual family economy as retrenchent mean less spending everything need to cut down yet the cost of the living is getting higher and seem not really helping that much. How many families out there get help and support when we analyse those not get help is much more than those get help. I really pity to life that lost and to my surprise such things happend in Singapore.

Honestly, for precautionary measure I think the murderer's classmates, school mates and teachers should be investigated for intentional bullying and harassment, just in case.

Then the dead boy would have died in vain, and the murderer would receive punishment on behalf of his bullies, if any.

Honestly this will deserve even more sadder faces in parliament!

At least speculation will actually get them some chances for justice and redress.

Who knows the teachers might have ganged up with students to bully him due to his differences from others - he could be holding different opinions and outlook on things like sexual orientation/gender identity - resulting in his mental illness.

I mean who will know what it is before deeper investigation!
