groyn88 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 (edited) 56% of schooling respondents in two significant surveys of LGBT Singaporeans experienced bullying on the basis of their sexual orientation. In tandem with the recent more enlightened guidelines by the Ministry of Health to counsel and manage LGBT youth, the Ministry of Education is also pulling out all the stops to tackle bullying in schools. Education Minister Desmond Lee clarified all his ministry's moves in Parliement two days ago. He said that the Ministry of Education would monitor the implementation of anti-bullying measures through regular engagements with educators and parents, focus group discussions, and review of student management outcomes. Responding to questions on MOE’s Comprehensive Action Review against Bullying, he said schools would receive clearer guidelines to ensure more consistent handling of cases while retaining discretion. All schools must also develop their own anti-bullying policies by the end of 2026. From 2026 onwards, schools would introduce online reporting platforms, alongside strengthened counselling, case management systems, and restorative practices. MOE would continue working with the Online Safety Commission, police, and social agencies on cyberbullying, including AI-generated deepfakes, and other complex cases.
