JayRoss55 Posted June 2 Posted June 2 The Ferris Wheel is named after George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., an American engineer from Pittsburgh. He designed the first such wheel for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, as a bold answer to the Eiffel Tower, which had debuted at the 1889 Paris Exposition. Ferris’s original wheel was 264 feet tall and carried 36 cars, each holding up to 60 people. Because his design became the most famous and the prototype for all similar amusement rides, his name became permanently attached to the invention. Quote
