Anybody knows what is the formal procedure to request for excuse from IPPT?

Been enduring this for years, partly out of ego and greed. But my knees and back are really reaching the critical point.

Anyone can advise?

You can see a GP at polyclinic first. If the GP refers you to see a specialist for your medical problem, then with the specialist's medical certificate you can ask your unit chief clerk to arrange for you to see your unit MO. From there, your MO will decide whether to put you on medical board to downgrade you or not.

That's what I'm asking about. How to arrange to see the MO? I don't have any callups.

Thanks. Just one more question? If the MO wants to send me for medical review, how is that like? Where is that conducted at?

Most of the time you don't even need to be present for the medical review. It's done internally among the MOs in SAF. They will inform you of their decision by mail or phone.

But Davecub is right, you need to see your GP and get him to refer you to a specialist. The specialist will assess and provide you with a letter which you can bring to your unit MO. Call your unit to arrange for this. If you go to a polyclinic, the GP will refer you to a specialist in a govt hospital. It is definitely much cheaper, but very long waiting list.

The whole process takes almost a year depending on how obvious your physical problem is. Mine took more than 9 months before I finally received by covetted downgrade letter. During that period, I had my specialist excuse me from all IPPT.

when seeing the GP and specialist, plan ahead of what you want to tell (a.k.a exaggerate) and also to show the pain/discomfort (a.k.a act). Good act, good show. Really, this is how i got my excuses.

may i present you the best acting award in advance and wish you a big success.

Thanks. But not everyone can take this kind of joke. At times, joke like this -- is like throwing shit on to a spinning fan .... the shit will spatter all over.

Eh I not keng hoh!!!! I ever hospitalized for this injury before hoh!!!!

See, you have mistaken me liao. I am not saying that you are keng-ning. I am suggesting that if you aim is to get excuse from IPPT, then make sure you do it all the way to get it. 演戏,要演全套!

During NS time, I have been wondering why I cannot get MC for my high fever and serious coughing while my platoon-mate can MC for 2 days by having some "ha-chwee". Later, I realized that its my own fault, my ego that thinking I am OK, I can do it but inside I am dying for a day of MC to rest. From then on, if I want MC to rest (or I want excuse for anything), I will make sure I get it.

Aiya, I know you were kidding. So was I.

The truth is, what I have been doing for years is to train for a while for the IPPT, go take it, then go see doctor for the recurring pain. I've long been advised to stop running, but simply for this IPPT obligation I didn't.

I have finally decided that there is no point sacrificing my legs for this sort of thing. All these glamour of this is your country, fly you flag, feel proud etc etc. Very difficult to remember them when the administrators take every chance to humiliate and incriminate and abuse you.

I managed during and after - not all the time, though. Was nicknamed Robocop during active days with SPF because of my stern look and no nonsense look and chasing people on foot :-p

I was nicknamed PTI though i could never be one because of my "attitude problem".

I smiled reading that.

I bet. There is a thread called 'Be Happy'. Perhaps you could share there for everyone else who might need a little help to smile or laugh, too.

Failed ippt all my way during my active days; recourse BMT at that time as a result. About 3 years after my ord, i started getting gold for my ippt. Never look back since.

I never get gold during my active days. Ironically only get my first and subsequent golds after ord. I think 'the constant going to gym to look good' helps us for ippt too.

regimentality sucks and nvr worked for me. the more my unit pushed me for gold, i pushed back more. LOL those days of youthful rebellion.

now just trying to maintain the gold nearing ippt dates to earn that 400 bucks :P

For me i rather get my gold and then can relax in the bunk. Back then my unit will asked those who cannot get gold to go for more training and book-in on weekends earlier for PT training.

The army's training regimen disagrees with me.

Static overstretching, imbalanced nutrition and rest times, improper emphasis on certain exercises,e.t.c.

I achieved feats like 12 pullups (at 65kg I'm like a sumo to pull) and an 8 min 2.4 timing on my own.

BMT did help in making me lose a lot of muscle mass and helped intensifying muscle and joint soreness.

Never got gold during NS days (like Seanny, did not care for their method of training), but towards the end of my reservist years (last 3 years or so) was when I started getting gold (doctor's orders to lose weight..... or else....). Was known as thte ChineseUncle as I was usually the oldest in the batch taking the IPPT. Used to go to Maju or Ang Mo Kio camp (yes, that long ago) to do IPPT as I like the 2.4km routes there.

During NS, all I got was RTs.

After NS, still RTs until one sun morning after RT, sweating & smelling on board a bus home, decided I had enuff of the smelly #tag I got to wear. I signed up for gym. The following - exemption. Then bronze & later silver. It felt good to be paid :)

For an oversized chub with no chest to a fit uncle with nice shoulder & chest, never kenna gold but being 2nd was comforting enuff for me. Now exercise once or twice a week is part of my life.

Thank you reservist for making a diff in my life.

Dun say ippt gold, i never pass my napha in sch b4 and never pass ippt at all in bmt and nsf days. Only manage a pass (first time) right before ord. Those days cant be bothered with everything in life really. Just eat sleep and slack life away :(

After ord, i realise i hv enough of failing ippt and also because of the pressure of looking good in the circle (who dun wanna look good if given a chance and its ur choice), i started to go gym and run more. After awhile i go gym with the mentality of building up my strength and improving my fitness, the results of looking good is secondary. Luckily i never get to smell rt, my first ippt after ord gt pass, second one got incentive and then third one gt silver (first time in my life) and subsequently silvers. Now i am trying to aim for gold cos i always just miss by abit only.

Last time ippt to me is horror, now i realise ippt is quite easy if u are prepared. :)

Haha friends always say "Where got time?" and etc etc.

I mean, one gotta find time and coupled with the healthy lifestyle & keeping fit, its a good deal to at least be able to pass.

My friends have time to go drinking on Fri & weekends, then tell me no time to exercise so too bad gotta do RT?

Pffffft!

used to be able to do 10-12 pull ups easily

two days ago took ippt and was shocked :o could only do 2 :yuk: other stations luckily still no prob though 2.4 barely pass...

admit tt due to hectic work i havent trained for months ;)

any tips on how to improve pull ups to at least 5 in the shortest time possible, going to retake again few days later ;)

Pull up is just...about pulling everyday. Just keep doing multiple sets daily till ur shag and continue tomorrow. Since you could do 12 previously, you'll get it back in no time.

2.4 is simple. Just run interval, if not just force yourself to run about 2.6km every other day. You'll see the improvements (as long as you keep time, so as to inspire yourself).

My own tips for pull ups:

1) always do it first during ippt cos it uses the most strength

2) breathe in when going up, helps me in the last few struggling ones

3) use the cloth provided at the side (if there is one) to wipe away sweat at the bar and grip ur bar tightly. might just help u to do an extra one.

4) tilt ur chin up abit, not sure if it helps u guys but it helps me mentally for the final few

Also feel tt pulling with ur palm facing u is easier than the normal style (pulling with palm facing out).

For trainings, other than keep pulling, lat pull down and inverted rows will help too. Google if u dunno what is it.

I have seen very big muscular bulky guys cant do pull up at all! Makes me wonder is pull up really just about strength!

Do mindef care about bmi? Always feel tt bmi is not accurate to gauge ur physical or fitness level.

I think ur ippt results matter more if u wanna sign on. Sld be at least a pass or silver. In my active days unit last time, there was a regular fat officer but he gt gold for ippt.

Actually they base quite heavily on bmi when it comes to pes status. If your bmi is too high they will go and check your fat percentage which also is pretty inaccurate cause there's no real way to accurately measure it.

That's mostly how they distinguish A from B1.

though every time i aim for the gold timing, i cannot help but think that the 400 bucks isn't even enough to buy me my coffin i i drop dead of over exertion / cardiac arrest.......

*sweatz*

Getting gold depends on how old r u and wht is the timing u need to clock. Usually if u r still in nsf, getting gold shld not be difficult. But if u r already ord & serving ur reservist, might be more diffcult to obtain gold.

the 4 static stations are really not difficult if u train for them. but to get gold timing for 2.4 or even pass for some people, u really need to train hard. not training for 2.4 and go run straight and wanna pass is killing yourself. i rmb seeing a fellow non ict ippt mate vomit in the toilet after the run, prob nv train much but push himself too hard!
