Questions About Military / Police / Ns - Enlistment / Medical Checkup & Ord Checkup Ffi (Compiled)

Hmm I think one of the selection criteria is that to be a commander , those with DIP or A levels certs would be preferred.

Those with ITE/ O levels, most probably ends up as Men.

So far have not heard of a guy with O level cert becoming a commander, except those who signed on.

I also agree the criteria to be commander or officer usually u must have a poly dip or A level cert. Although there is no written rule stated this, but so far from wht i see, this is how the army works. Those who have ITE, O or lower qualification, 99.99% u will become men.

But if u have poly dip or A level doesn't mean 100% u will become commander or officer. Cos i also see guys with poly dip & A level be come CPL or men in their ns. And it depends which vocation and camp u got posted to also.

Thank you guys. I appreciate for all of your replies. Now, i have a rough thought on it =)

that's not true. I've attended poly before my NS(quit at year 2), so my highest qualification is O'Lvl. But i went for the Sit Test too( the test to qualify for specialist/ officer. But I did highlight that i attended poly before so maybe that's the reason I was selected for it. But I also heard that some poeple from other company was selected even they have only PSLE cert.

Anyway, I don't really think certs are very important in NS, these are just myth( unless you are thinking to sign on.) My unit got many people from JCs, entering to Uni or from overseas etc. But the rank still varies. If you aimming to go command school or etc, just be more garang.

Hi justin89, I have a few question

1) May i know what's the proceedure to apply for the 'Sit Test'? I was in poly too till end of year 2.

2) The application is before the enlisting or after the enlisting & when do i highlight them about my past education?

3) Lastly, what do they test you on the "Sit test" ?

If anyone know the answer & could help me by answering the question above, i am kindly appreciate it. Thanks! =)

1)You don't have to apply for it as it is your commanders who choose the people who qualify.

2)I wrote in the enlistment form when they send to us before u enlist and through interviews with your Platoon commander, you can highlight to them. Or maybe you can highlight your interests to them during the interviews too.

3) Sit Test is actually Situational Test. During my time, we have some lessons on rope tying and also IA( Immediate Actions) for rifles. After that we will have route march to the site and then pinch our tent there. There are many stations which test you to solve different obstacles on the spot. U are appointed to be the team leader/ assisastant leader at different point hence u have to take charge to come out with a soloution and lead the rest of the team to finish it together. They will also will test you on your military planning( such as in case of enemy attack, what plan will u come out with). Its a 2 days test if I didn't remember wrongly. At the end of the test, u have to do peer grading which will u to mark out who's the best to lousiest. So in the course fo the test, it's also good to build good relations with your team.

Anyway enjoy your NS haha. Good luck!

SIT Test is applicable to everybody in BMTC. You will be automically selected for SIT Test as long as you are in BMTC. I don't think mono-intake units offer SIT test unless there are special exceptions. The SIT Test is carried out by external evaluators, mostly NSmen who come back for reservice and maybe a few regulars instead of your usual commanders. You will be grouped with different people other than your own section mates to see if you have the ability to communicate well with them and lead them to solve the various problems posed to you during the test. And yes, the test is 2D1N, inclusive of the route march and settng up of your tents. Other than the peer evaluation, you will also be interviewed by the evaluators for you to express your interest in command school.

The test is not for everyone. Still, they will see your education level. If i'm not wrong maybe the people from your company are at least poly/jc so they all are qualified for that. For PHDs (poly halfway dropout) like us, they might consider also. I remembered i was cleanning my rifle halfway and called to the office to answer a call and they comfirm my education level. Hehe, SIT test is very fun! But the company that in charge of our SIT test is crazy! I have only realise the benefits of being a officer only after i posted to my unit. What a regret. haha

There is a mixture of poly,jc, poly dropouts in my coy previously. The entire company went for the test. The point being that if you are in Tekong you will be selected for the SIT test since it is part of their "syllabus" for BMT. Educational level filtering is mostly done before you enlist, hence the different postings of the Tekong recruits and the mono-intake recruits.

oic. During my bmt, my platoon(mostly PSLE holders) and few jcs, dip holders n im the only poly dropout. But not all are eligible for the test. Hmm...maybe they changed the system ba.

Your from Tekong too? I thought that PSLE holders would be in mono-intake instead? Perhaps they changed the posting criteria during the next few years following your batch....?

the forest.. the sand path way etc... somewhere u will not pass by often in our life right. And when u pass by some buildings, I will try to look out if there is any "special" things inside. haha. i mean like tekong is not somewhere u can go if you want to go right?

tekong is a great place, it holds special memories. i was there when camp 3 and 1 shift to the new buildings. the new building dun feel so sad... can see the sea....

Open it up to the public and do a Resorts World Tekong or something. Providing free food and slimming down service there....

my poly always do NE tour to tekong but too bad they changed this year. Went to air force open house instead =.=". You know i actually feel like going back to do BMT again if they allow? haha... Maybe in the near future they might actually do that if they did not used it for military purpose. Lol

Wow thanks for all the replies.

IF i was given the opportunity to do a SIT test and choose for my own interest, i wonder will i be "digging my own graveyard".

Before even the enlisting & medical checkup. I felt the stress..... But how come you guys have a great memories over there and seem like having a great time LOL. Not tough?

By the way.. Can we pick up some interest activitiy or club in the NS like music, violin, pian etc?

Hmm... in SAF there's a Music and Drama company which will hold serveral auditons to recruit people in. If u have already had the skills maybe u can go for the auditions. But as for direct enlistment to there, i have actually no idea. You can check out their website http://www.mindef.gov.sg/imindef/mindef_websites/atozlistings/mdc/home.html

No need to be stress over that la. It's actually a very enjoyable process. U might not feel it in the process but when u think back, you will really cherish that experience. Just rest your mind and enjoy yourself before you enlist baby. haha

Hi guys!

I'm new here and should probably start of with an intro and all but I need a bit of help first :x

I just got notification from CMPB that I'm PES C9 L9, which means:

C9 - All servicemen not required to take IPPT

L9 - Able to bear firearms and protect themselves, others and property. Unfit for field duties. Can be deployed in Combat Support vocations etc.

Not too sure to feel about this, and would love to consult ur opinions ):

Personally I feel I'm of ok physical fitness, got no body problems and got gold for napfa... so i was anticipating PES A. But during the CMPB medical check up, they took notice of my beta thalassemia condition (which essentially means I dun have normal levels of haemoglobin in my blood, but not low to the point where my health is jeopardized in anyway).

i had no problems at the other stations. and my beta thalassemia is genetic; not serious also. have never felt breathless/faint after exercising or had giddy spells at high/low altitudes..

so want to ask, if I'm C9 L9, which essentially is the noobest of PES C, what does it mean for me in army? Cos i wanted to do well in NS, was hoping to go for OCS :\ but my father told me with my current grading I can forget about holding any position ever, and just be a cook/driver/storeman. Is this true? my frens tell me i should be super happy cos with my allocation, i can slack.

not that slacking is bad or being a cook/driver/storeman is bad either, but I was hoping to excel at whatever I do...NS included. altho i am gay doesn't mean that I'm any less man :\ and i wanted to be given the opportunity to try my best. Not sure if PES C9 L9 will allow me to do that ):

should I call CMPB and query about my grading? maybe request for an upgrade? is it wise to do so? or should i just be satisfied with my current grading?

Thanks for reading thus far. write so long ): sorry if i wasted ur time

and thanks in advance for your answers if any!

cheers,

Ed

Your dad's right, you can't be posted to the command schools.

If you do wish to up PES, all you need to do is to get a specialist to deem you combat fit. Show that memo to your camp MO, and then it's up to him to decide.

Either way, think through before you do anything. Remember to consider long term factors as well (NS IPPT/RT).

I doubt they will up your PES, given that your condition has to do with blood and oxygen levels. There are already too many cases of NSF suddenly collapsing during training and not waking up after.

You can still stay fit your own way while not jeopardising your life. You can always try your best in other areas, not necessarily in NS. Even an admin clerk can do his best and make a difference. It all boils down to the attitude.

I agree with swxy55 that since you have lower haemoglobin levels, it is probably better for you to remain in your current PES so that you would not over-strain your body. Anyway, in PES C9 L9, you can probably book out everyday at 5pm (i think) and have more time to spend on other things, such as keeping fit. Oh, you can also be a positive influence to people who has the same PES status as you, in terms of being physically fit =)

Btw, my PES status is exactly the same as yours haha, maybe we will see each other next year in NS? =)

True enough, we will probably miss out a considerably significant part on character building.. And perhaps the morale and brotherhood among PES C9 NSF won't be as high..

Haha depending on your vocation, u can do different things to kill time, Justed. And I'm kinda looking forward to NS.. Can slack and still get money, can make more friends, can admire guys in uniform haha

  • 1 month later...

OKAY GUYS I NEED HELP SERIOUSLY!

I am 18 years old and taking A levels in 2 weeks time. But that is beside the point.

I was graded PES B2L3 permanent and Excuse Range because yours truly have some eye problems.

I want to ask these folowing questions:

- Excuse range = no shooting and grenade?!

- Excuse range = combat service straightaway?

- Since i am PES B2L3, I am still required to take my yearly IPPT until i reach 40. (Man, thats 22 years of NAPFA...KNNCCB). But i heard that combat service vocations (assuming that i get one) places far less emphasis on IPPTs and whatnot than those in the combat line. Is that true?

- How is BMT like? For my case? Hahha

Looking forward to it :)

Sianz.
