"I Just Called to Say I Love You" - by Stevie Wonder

reminds me of my suffering days in SAFINCOS/ SAFTI camp!!

Every Saturday afternoon book-out and book-in again on Sunday by 8pm, that feeling was awful!! :-(

Guest Curious!

Who listen to songs by 张清芳 and 苏芮?

Wonder if I will still like their songs if I listen to them now? I decided not to as it will spoilt my beautiful memories of these nice songs?

Just like PetShop Boys, I like them so much in the 80's but when I decided to listen to them again recently, it was quite awful! :-(

Before iPod, there was something called the cassette tape, and long before Kazaa, Limewire, P2P, Baidu, etc, there were record shops, which offered recording service. You can browse through the records and write down the songs you want, and for a fee, the shop will compile your selections onto cassette tape.

One of the cassette tapes lying around has a playlist as follows. When it comes to Chinese songs, Cantopop was the order of the day.

Side 1

Tunnel Of Love - Funboy 3

Hey Little Girl - Icehouse

Africa - Toto

Story Of The Blues - The Wah

Living On The Ceiling - Blancmange

Communication - Spandau Ballet

Waves - Blancmange

Lies - Thompson Twins

Side 2

Get the Balance Right - Depeche Mode

Love On Your Side - Thompson Twins

Da Da Da - The Trio

No Ordinary Lover - China Crisis

Flesh Of My Flesh - Orange Juice

Shiny Shiny - Haysi Fantayzee

Love Is Just The Great Pretender - Animal Nightlife

Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens - The Stargazers

Well ... one song that if I listen to will ALWAYS remind me of my secondary school years (I was so innocent then) is Wouldn't It Be Good? Its by a british male singer. Anyone guess who that is? :)

ps, he is not that famous...

Nik Kershaw?

So smart!!

I used to like him a lot. Together with Tears for Fears and Bananarama. And Madonna of course.

Crazygolfer, if i am not wrong you should be listening to more of Bread and Neil Sedaka.  I always have a small FM radio on my buggy as I play from one hole to another .... now if i hear Bee Gees or Cliff Richard, I would think of you honey.

When can I borrow your two-ball putter?

 Birdiecrazy, you are very cute!

You are right Neil Sedaka "Laughter in the Rain"

and the Bread "If", I remember this song was a hit when I was student overseas.

dear golfcrazy,

i was supposed to play a game today. but it is raining and i got to cancel my game. just as well since you did not reply to my plea to borrow your 'two-ball putter'.

for a avid golfer like you, i am sure your favourite rock group would be EAGLES!!!!!!

so yet again i ask: when can i borrow your 'two-ball putter'?

CL, hehe...such observant eyes you've got there, huh? Actually, the avatar is chosen to depict my nick more than trying to promote the Offspring. Oh! What the hell! I'm a fan anyway :)

DOM, looks like we share similar taste! :) Bread, Carpenters, Deep Purple, The Stylistics etc were all great bands during those times. I've got a few more to add...namely The Doors, CCR, The Eagles, America, Pink Floyd, James Taylor and Don McLean.

Here's a list of my favorites from some of them:

1. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

2. Break On Through - The Doors

3. Desperado - The Eagles

4. Fire and Rain - James Taylor

5. Superstar - The Carpenters

6. Have You Ever Seen The Rain - CCR

7. Sister Golden Hair - America

8. Everything I Own - Bread

9. Vincent - Don McLean

10. Wild World - Cat Stevens

and I could really go on and on and on....again! :D

1977 / 1978 were the most pop culture defining moment with Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Star Wars and Charlie's Angels. I just love songs from 1977 to 1979..... great years and I was only single digit in age then and until now, still very special years.

When we talk about songs of our generation, a lot of people were quoting all the 80s stars like Tears for Fears, and Wham!

I kinda conclude we're all in our 30s.

Actually, for me, apart from those retro music, and Madonna of course (I loved all her Like A Virgin and True Blue stuff, can't connect with her later efforts) ... there are also other songs from my generation from the other side of the music world ...

Hong Kong.

I remembered listening to Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung as I was growing up. And to a lesser extent, Danny Chan and Alan Tam too. Up to now, every time I hear an Anita Mui or Danny Chan song, somehow, I'll start tearing. Not because I remember those good old days, but because these superstars have all passed on.

pretty old song, pretty distintive arrangement where 黄舒骏 spoke the words for more than half of the song. one of those songs that if you heard it in the middle of the night, your mood will quiet down and listen to the sad story - a story about waiting

you can read the lyrics and listen to the song here:

http://www.zftown.com/blog/?action=show&id=199

be careful though, listening to this song really dampen your mood. i heard this song over the radio when i was driving home, after the song ended, i switched off the radio and quietly drove home...

For me it's K.D. Lang's My Old Addiction. Whenever i hear this song I always think about this guy, the misses we've had and till this day I still think of him fondly.

My old addiction

Changed the wiring in my brain

So that when it turns the switches

Then I am not the same

So like the flowers toward the sun

I will follow

Stretch myself out thin

Like theres a part of me thats already buried

That sends me out into this window

My old addiction

Is a flood upon the land

This tiny lifeboat

Can keep me dry

But my weight is all

That it can stand

So when I try to lean just a little

For just a splash to cool my face

Ahh that trickle

Turns out fickle

Fills my boat up

Five miles deep

My old addiction

Makes me crave only what is best

Like these just this morning song birds

Craving upward from the nest

These tiny birds outside my window

Take my hand to be their mom

These open mouths

Would trust and swallow

Anything that came along

Like my old addiction

Now the other side of day

As the springtime

Of my lifes time

Turns the other way

If a swan can have a song

I think I know that tune

But the page is only scrawled

And I am gone this afternoon

But the page is only scrawled

And I am gone this afternoon

Love.

For me it was, dun laugh ok but this song help me thru my childhood, growing up without love not really having a family and knowing from a very young age what being gay ment and accepting that i was gay but trying to understand at the same time what was going on.

This song also help me when i was older and going thru some rough times with my partner.

The song is "Rainbow Connection". If you really look deep into the words of the song you will realize like that song was written for that confuze child not knowing what the world may bring and not know if live is worth living. that song save me from doing something stupid when i was young because it gave me hope with the line " I've heard it too many times to ignore it. Is it something that I'm supposed to be? Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers and me."

btw, for some strange reason only the Kermit the Frog version does it for me.

Click here to see and hear song on youtube.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows

And what's on the other side?

Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,

And rainbows have nothing to hide.

So we've been told and some choose to believe it

I know they're wrong, wait and see.

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,

The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered

When wished on the morning star?

Somebody thought of that

And someone believed it,

And look what it's done so far.

What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?

And what do we think we might see?

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,

The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell,

We know that it's probably magic....

Have you been half asleep

And have you heard voices?

I've heard them calling my name.

Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?

The voice might be one and the same.

I've heard it too many times to ignore it.

Is it something that I'm supposed to be?

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,

The lovers, the dreamers and me.

La, la la, La, la la la, La Laa, la la, La, La la laaaaaaa

(reprise from "The Muppet Movie"):

Why are there so many songs about rainbows?

That's part of what rainbows do.

Rainbows are memories, sweet dream reminders --

What is it you'd like to do?

All of us watching and wishing we'd find it,

I know you're watching it, too.

Someday you'll find it, the rainbow connection,

The lovers, the dreamers, and you!

Hay bearbear, thanks a lot for the wonderful song! :thumb:

Must be tough being you, but I believe you hv worked it through and keep fighting!

And I hv never really known that the song which I hv heard for countless times is actually sung by Kermit the Frog! I also like the Carpenters' version.

I guess this song has a similar sentiment with "Over the Rainbow". I just think so, full of hope, just like children. This is what we shd learn from 'em. Nope, I don't think it's childish. Listening to it once again made me think hard and seems like bring me back to my childhood.

Fell in love with this song when i saw it on arts central some time ago...

9 crimes by damien rice

Leave me out with the waste

This is not what I do

It's the wrong kind of place

To be thinking of you

It's the wrong time

For somebody new

It's a small crime

And I've got no excuse

Is that alright?

Give my gun away when it's loaded

Is that alright?

If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it

Is that alright?

Give my gun away when it's loaded

Is that alright

With you?

Leave me out with the waste

This is not what I do

It's the wrong kind of place

To be cheating on you

It's the wrong time

She's pulling me through

It's a small crime

And I've got no excuse

Is that alright?

Give my gun away when it's loaded

Is that alright?

If you dont shoot it, how am I supposed to hold it

Is that alright?

If I give my gun away when it's loaded

wah the songs listed are old for my generation... (im not even 20 yet ><). Luckily ive listened enough of class 95 and power 98 to recognise most of those songs and be appreciative of them.

my era is the late 90s n early 2000s.. where pop, boybands and R&B predominated the music scene... ive witness the dying out of boybands n the de-viginisation of pop princesses. I've R&B have decayed into dance musics with sleazy n tacky lyrics and the rise of punk rock on radio..

i enjoy the cranberries...

and now i enjoy dolores oriordan's latest album...

any other generation?

erm... there's this particular mandarin song (obviously i dunno the title... i used to remember the melody... its been used in some films before... i like it for its haunting melody and the tone of voice...)

anyway sometime last year... i was on the hunt for old records... and a friend of mine brought me to his office in chinatown (beside the old niche club)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z43F0PgCLG8

as a kid, my parents used to play songs in this era as well (malay english chinese songs even) (not to mention showing me the photos they take during those years)... somehow i grew up with a lot of nostalgia and memories of years/era that i was not a part of...

and yes... i can listen to songs like these as if time itself stood still...

you recall them? http://groups.msn.com/ReCollectingTheQuests/yourwebpage.msnw

Love this song by 杨培安- 这该死的爱. Been playing it repeatedly on my ipod.

This song dedicate to all married men yet who has a bf

incidentally, i am listening to that song

Lately am very crazy over this korean song from the OST from 200 Pounds Beauty. especially this particular portion from the movie....where she went for the audition. tot her singing was very touching... this part is sung by the lead actress (Kim Ah Joong) superb singing.

the translation of the lyrics are as follows...

------------------------------------------------

The breeze gently caress the window

和我同样大小的房间上方 over a room my size.

Don't be hurt

如是紧拥我安慰我 like its holding me, consoling me

要我安详入睡 hoping me a peaceful sleep

就算累了 痛到无法走下去 even if you are so tired that you cannot carry on

就算泪水遮盖我的视线 even if tears blinded your sight

Before the love that you will never own...

我还是要笑 put on a smile

虽然短暂却幸福的记忆 our short but happy memories

我一定会珍藏在心中 will be buried deep in my heart

就像闪耀在我眼眸的那些星光 just like the stars embroidered in my eyes

Got re-aquainted with this favourite song by 游鸿明-

This was one of the most popular songs in HK last year, almost every shops there were playing this song during that time

In a way, this is a song for all of us, that we spent so much of our time doing our work and yet miss out on our family and lovers.

I have watched the Korean movie "The Classic" (known as 假如愛有天意 in Singapore and 緣起不滅 in Taiwan) numerous times. I really love the two songs inside the movie. I may not know what the lyrics meant but I can feel the sadness in it. These songs reminded me of my lost love ......

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKEPG6gpMpA...ted&search=

I understand that there is a Mandarin version of the song above .... Can someone tell me which singer sang the Mandarin version and in which album. Thanks ....

2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YcFUx2Zf_U...ted&search=

Song 2 was recently used in a commercial for camera ....

Importantly, there are 2 georgeous guys in the movie tongue.gif

Song that stir your emotion, not your dick...

Isn't "Emotion" = "七情六欲" ? biggrin.gif

Also, I have said in the beginning that the songs reminded me of the lost love .... i.e. it stir my emotion.

So, anything wrong .... ? blink.gif
