Wow, if I am given $2,000, this will be my choice:

Processor

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 - and will overclock it to run higher

Mainboard

Asus P5W DH Deluxe

Bundled cost for above = $670

Graphic Card

Xpertvision 7600GT 256mb $190

Memory

Kingston PC5300 DDR2 677 2GB $226

Storage

Western Digital Raptor 36GB for OS/Program $178

Hitachi 320GB 16mb cache $138

Optical Storage

LG GSA-H2N DVD+/-RW $53

Power Supply

AcBel 550W $159

LCD Monitor

LG 19" L1970HR-WF 2ms/DVI $499

Casing

Lian-Li Alumunium PC7 $149

Sound Card

Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme $119

Ooops, overshot budget liow! Anyway, that's meant for a totally new rig. I'm sure when upgrading, there are always some gadget from the old PC that can be reused.

For Webcam, I always prefer logitech over creative and must be CCD image sensor.

For All-In-one printer, I would go for HP C5180 but still prefer laserjet.

When I am upgrading OS to Vista, I guess I will opt for the Ultimate version. Currently, using WinXP Pro with Vista Transformation Pack.

When we DIY, there is always a choice. And this choice, generally, is about getting the 'best' one can afford so that the system won't get obselete too fast. :)

DIY can be cheap too actually.

Somehow, I always prefer a PC.
