Yup I have a wetsuit, just the top though, I hate wearing the bottom part so I just wear so surf or swim shorts. Lovensick Posted May 28, 2014 Report Share Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Nusa Lembongan good spot for dive..nver been there bfore but some Balinese divers recomend this spot..if you hv more time, u may visit lombok.... take a boat from Bali to Gili...Lombok : Gili Trawangan , Gili Air...those are wonderfull spot....clear visibility, Padi alsa available at Gili Trawanganps : Gili is lokal language (Island) Lembongan is a lot of drift diving + cold water... Main point is to see Mola Mola at crystal bay (usually in August), which is quite a tough dive site so make sure you can handle currents well... and on the other side of the island (quite a bit of distance away) you get Manta Ray, which is splendid... Macro wise it's not a lot of exciting stuff... for other dive shops based in main Bali Island, you pay about 100 USD to get a day trip to Lembongan for Mola Mola and Manta Ray, and a painful long dive journey (I think you need to set off at 5+ or 6am and probably only reach back at late afternoon)... For dive shop on lembongan itself, you get to wake up slightly later and reach Crystal Bay slightly earlier than others, thus less crowded and higher chance to see Mola Mola... But of course you don't always get to see Mola Mola... During Mola Mola season, water temperature at Manta Ray site is around 26C with lots of surge... other part of the island is down at between 20 to 22C, two words: fucking cold... Lembongan is a lot more peaceful, or you can say boring, as compared to Bali and with price tag slightly higher... On Bali side I guess the more famous dive site is Tulamben but I've never been to... I experienced downwellling current on my first dive in Lembongan's Crystal Bay, but we were at a slope rather than a vertical wall so we did a lot of "climbing" upwards. kind of funny when doing safety stop you find the depth keeps going down to 6 and 7 naturally and the SMB wasn't even floating on the surface but "sunk" in the water. But that was the one and only experience... Yep, got to shoot a lot to get some keepers, a lot of factors thats beyond ones control...current, sediments.. these i cropped a little tight...friends told me i'm shooting for a seafood restaurant! Yeah gotta shoot hundreds just to get few real good ones... and yeah a friend told me nowadays those underwater photography contest judges look down at cropping hahaha... how about organizing some trips? It's on my to-do list But the restrictions are quite harsh there... only allows you to dive once in the natural reserve I believe and it's number restricted every day. Dive at Bali adventure divers and it is the best dive centre for me, out of 4 I have been. Fantastic and friendly owners with very high safety standard. Pricing is affordable and a very nice place to relax. Went to the liberty wreck and love the dive. Went for a night dive but didn't enjoy it as I was quite overwhelmed with the darkness around me. Krabi was a bit disappointing... average visibility, not many corals or fishes... I know the tsunami took a huge toll on this but still.... quite sad after seeing other parts of SE Asia. So difficult to look for dive kaki....any group I can join?U can just FB-like a few local dive centres or dive groups, there are always people planning their next trips~ plus even when u go travel, u can just do a bit of homework and see whether there are any good dive sites around where you're going and contact the dive shops there, they'll be more than happybyo help u arrange and u get to meet other cool divers. It's not easy to coordinate.... Needs lots if advance planning But we can try a poll: Line or Whatsapp group? Leaving south east Asia soon though....LINE's good~ ! The community is so laid back and cool and easy to make friends with that it's always fun to dive, even with complete strangers! Line huh? I prefer Whatsapp lol but let's see how it goes I got a better idea for my August dive trip, most probably an extended weekend before and after National Day. Pulau Redang, off Kuala Terenganu sounds like more viable option. Going up by air/bus and back by bus (to avoid the dreaded 24H no fly period) and dive for 3 or 4 days on site. Fiji was my other option but I don't have that much time left and losing so much time flying to and fro is just not worth it. Tickets were cheap though, less than $1500.... Unfortunately, my holidays for the year are booked and maxed out my leave. U need a week for Komodo. U waste 2 days for the flight into Komodo, Garuda change the schedule and it now arrives at 9am, most boat leaves harbour at 8.30am and 1 day out of Komodo with transit in Bali. Do a live aboard. Amazing experience according to the few divers I met in Amed. Amed is really great. Like the old Bali and much less crowded and touristy than the south. It's like eat pray love. 2 dives in morning.
