Wah such high standards!

Okay, from an international point of view.

The body is slightly over developed around the shoulder.

Some proportion issue, too.

He's not consider handsome but cute (slightly)

Jaw too chiselled, if it's more square, would be more manly,

A bit of facial hair would help, too.

Look more btm/ flex than macho top.

Average presence.

From a local standard, he's probably a B+(2 grades up)

Lots of mei mei & ah pek, gong gong would love him.

If you compare king prawn pic to the teochew hawker, the latter would win because Qi Zhi(Presence), which makes one charming & likeable.

In the year 2014, a 17 year old boy was also blackmailed the same way by a group of Filthypinoys scammers posing as girls to get him to strip. He couldn't take the pressure nor come up with the cash, so he committed suicide. The entire case took the entire international community by storm and even Interpol was roped in to crack down on the scam. Subsequently, the Filthypinoys made a few arrest to appease the international anger, even though the arrested claimed they were scapegoats. But the investigations found out many other things, such as how those sextortionists were working as an entire SYNDICATE with a full office setup lined with computers and manned by over 30 people each time. The "strippers" were nothing more than just pre-recorded videos. What I did not expect, is that they are now targetting us gays. So, please be careful.

CHICAGO -- Corey Walgren was 16 when he jumped to his death from the top of a Chicago-area parking deck in January.

His family says he did it about an hour after Naperville North High School officials and a police liaison questioned him about possible images of a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old girl on his phone.

They told him "he could be charged with child pornography and he could be a registered sex offender," family attorney Terry Ekl told CBS Chicago station WBBM-TV.

Ekl said they continued the harsh questioning even after realizing no pornographic images were on the teen's phone. While waiting for his mom, Corey walked out of school and killed himself.

"If you look at the whole scenario of what they did and how they handled it and the outcome, they did a lot wrong," Ekl told WBBM-TV.

That is why, he says, Corey's parents have filed a lawsuit against Naperville School District 203 and the city. Ekl said Corey wasn't read his Miranda rights and was questioned by police without a parent present and left unsupervised.

"To go from normal happy kid to committing suicide something very drastic had to happen," Ekl said.

School and city officials call the incident difficult and tragic.

City attorney Mike DiSanto said in a statement: "We ask the community to show patience and respect throughout the legal process. We are confident the school resource officer followed proper policies and procedures."

Something very similar happenned in Singapore before...

Even if you do not have your face in the video when you were nude, they can still associate  your nude videos to screen captures of your face as an add-on. And any tattoos/birthmarks/surgery scars on your body can become identifying marks that the nude body is indeed yours. The entire article below deserves to be posted here in its entirety, in case anyone is too lazy to go to the link and read about the dangers of online webcam for themselves. I have highlighted some parts in red. If I have highlighted too many parts of the article here to make it unreadable, please head to the article and read it yourself. Inside the sleazy Filipino internet den where 'Queen of Sextortion' arrested over British teen's suicide 'made fortune duping men into stripping for cybersex and then blackmailing them'

The suspected mastermind behind a global internet sex scam that caused the suicide of a British teenager is a rich former slum dweller from the Philippines known as the Queen of Sextortion, Mail Online has discovered.

Single mother Maria Cecilia Caparas-Regalachuelo – who just 10 years ago lived in one of Manila's worst areas – is the alleged matriarch of a syndicate in the northern Philippines that has blackmailed thousands of foreigners after taking naked videos of them during online sex chats.

Using a Fagin's band of urchins including girls as young as 12, Caparas is believed to have amassed a fortune by getting her gang members to threaten to post naked footage of victims on Facebook after persuading them to strip.

Her rabble of unlikely cyber-criminals in flip-flops working from dirt-poor towns and villages in the Bulacan province north of Manila, in the Philippines, is blamed for the suicide of 17-year-old Daniel Perry from Dumfermline in Scotland.

The trainee mechanic thought he was chatting online to a girl in the US and was told by his online tormentors he would be 'better off dead' as they demanded money shortly before he leapt to his death from the Forth Road Bridge in 2013.

Caparas, 37, was arrested with dozens of other gang members in a 2014 Interpol swoop following Daniel's death.

She is suspected to have used her wealth and connections to bribe her way out of prison and continue her sextortion racket before being arrested again this September.

She is now in custody awaiting trial for child abuse and trafficking while one of her 22-year-old gang members, Archie Gian Tolin, has since gone into hiding in the Philippines, evading his extradition to Britain over Daniel's death.

Her gang's activities are thought to have contributed to a surge in 'sextortion' cases in Britain with four more suicides in the past year and a doubling of reported cases from 385 in 2015 to 864 so far this year.

The Slumdog Millionairess – described by one neighbour as uneducated but extremely cunning – is thought to be the pioneer of the sinister form of online blackmail dramatised in the TV series Black Mirror and now used by other gangs based in Morocco and the Ivory Coast.

MailOnline tracked down the home of Caparas to a remote village called North Hills, north of Manila, where her home was guarded by a ragamuffin band of young men who hid their faces from our cameras.

Ironically, Caparas presents herself as a deeply religious woman despite the appalling crimes she is accused of.

She has a crucifix on her front door and when arrested in September wore a t-shirt with the slogan: 'In the happy moments, praise God. In the difficult moments, seek God.'

Caparas was relocated to North Hills with her four children when the Manila slum where they lived was demolished 10 years ago.

She is now the wealthiest and most powerful resident of the village of 1,000 people, according to neighbours.

Caparas is said to have run her multimillion pound 'sextortion' ring using girls as young as 12. They persuaded men to strip off on webcam, then threatened to send footage to friends and family. Police in the Philippines seized equipment in a series of raids (above) in September

She owns a sprawling two-storey block dominating the village centre which has been converted in the past five years into a honey-trap for local youngsters with a basketball ring opposite its entrance and a gym and a billiards room on its upper floors.

The billiards room is lined with 19 cyber-café style coin-operated computer cubicles and is thought to have been the unlikely headquarters of her criminal enterprise, recruiting English-speaking youngsters to seduce and blackmail foreign men online.

As we entered the billiards hall, young men playing pool hurriedly covered their faces and scuttled awkwardly away, refusing to answer any questions about Caparas.

They then locked the hall and hurried off into the village, leaving only a gaggle of grubby young children behind.

All computer hard drives were seized when police from the Manila-based Cybercrime unit swooped in September, residents told us.

They also arrested a nephew of Caparas, Mark Andrey Rafol Sesaldo, who is accused of helping her run the Cybercrime network.

Incredibly, despite her two high-profile arrests, which have seen her nicknamed the 'Queen of Sextortion' by local newspapers, village leaders claim to know little about her activities and have taken no follow-up action to warn parents or youngsters about her alleged operations.

'Everyone knows what happened but no one will talk to you about it,' said the owner of a café near her home, who asked not to be named.

'She is in jail but this is the Philippines and she has money. We all believe she will be free and back home soon once the fuss has died down.'

Asked if village parents were concerned about the activities at her house, the café owner said: 'This is a poor village and many people made money from Caparas – not just the young people but their parents as well.'

When she was arrested, Caparas protested that she was just a businesswoman and pointed out that she had just opened a bottled water shop on the ground floor of her home in North Hills. 'I hope the police will treat me fairly,' she told a local TV crew.

Luzviminda Espiritu, chairwoman of the neighbourhood or 'barangay' committee, told Mail Online Caparas had been penniless when she moved to North Hills with her children 10 years ago after being relocated from a Manila slum.

'She was given a simple home here when she arrived but she has since gone on to become a successful businesswoman,' she said.

'We don't know much about what she does and we were very shocked when she was arrested.

'We haven't had a single complaint brought to us by parents of children. We have many homes in this barangay. Our police officers patrol every day but they can't always see what goes on inside people's houses.

The billiards hall where the computer terminals were found was set up by Caparas four years ago, Ms Espiritu said. However local police knew nothing of her activities, she said, and Caparas was arrested both times by the Manila-based national anti-cybercrime squad.

After her 2014 arrest, police said they believed Caparas's syndicate had extorted an estimated £1.5million from thousands of victims in the US, Britain, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

There were nearly 500 victims in Hong Kong alone who paid the gang more than a combined £400,000. Individual amounts transferred by victims ranged from £200 to £15,000, police found.

Youngsters working for Caparas allegedly worked in three days shifts making contacts with foreigners and then persuading them to strip and perform sex acts in front of their computers which were then recorded and used to blackmail them.

Interpol revealed how children working for the gang, which operated at an 'almost industrial scale', would be offered training and incentives including 'holidays, cash or mobile phones for reaching their financial targets'.

They could earn hundreds of pounds in a week shift, police said – a fortune in a rural area where the average daily wage is £5 a day and the main employer is a cement factory in the nearby town of San Jose Del Monte.

One underage girl was allegedly paid more than £1,000 for three days of 'chatting' work online luring paedophiles for Caparas's syndicate to blackmail.

As well as her home village, police believe Caparas ran another sextortion gang in San Jose Del Monte. One of her daughters allegedly owned two Western Union money-transfer offices in the district where victims were ordered to send their blackmail money.

Caparas is accused of setting up her money-spinning internet sex scams by taking advantage of the Philippines' high standards of English in the poverty-racked district where groups of unsupervised children run wild.

Other victims of sextortion gangs in the Philippines include 52-year-old Chicago politician Ron Sandack who stepped down abruptly after paying US$3,000 to blackmailers. He went to police when his blackmailers demanded a further US$5,000, state documents show.

Senior Superintendent Ronaldo De Jesus, head of the Philippines National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group which arrested Caparas, told Mail Online many foreign victims who thought they were talking to women online were unwittingly exchanging messages with teenage men.

Showing a surprising level of sophistication, syndicate members engage men in sex talk then show pre-recorded videos of women stripping and performing sex acts before persuading victims to do the same so they can record their acts.

If they refuse to pay up, the blackmailers sometimes threaten to tell friends and family members the victim was performing sex acts with an underage boy or girl even if the victim believed he was communicating with someone older.

'It is a growing crime here in the Philippines and it is driven by poverty,' said Snr Supt De Jesus who has a team of 100 Manila-based officers working with Interpol to tackle the sextortion epidemic. But new sextortion gangs are springing up in provinces nationwide, he said.

An unnamed café owner in the village near her home, pictured, said: 'Everyone knows what happened but no one will talk to you about it. She is in jail but this is the Philippines and she has money. We all believe she will be free and back home soon once the fuss has died down.'

Snr Supt De Jesus said the most harrowing part of his team's work was seeing underage children sometimes as young as eight forced to take part in the cybersex industry by their parents. 'It is very hard to understand how any parent can do this to their child,' he said.

Caparas has been charged with child abuse and trafficking – charges that relate to her use of underage children to blackmail foreign victims. Underage girls were allegedly used in some cases as bait and in others as a way to threaten victims when blackmail demands are not met.

Snr Supt De Jesus insisted that Caparas would remain behind bars until her case is brought to trial, saying the offences she was charged with are so serious. 'She will not be given bail,' he said.

An international arrest warrant was issued in February for Archie Gian Tolin, one of three gang members accused of targeting Daniel Perry. He was among 58 people including Caparas arrested in 2014.

Daniel's uncle: 'Nothing is worth killing yourself over, nothing can be that embarrassing it's worth that.'

Daniel's uncle, Ron Reilly, who owns a garage in Edinburgh, said: 'All online companies must have some form of panic button.

'You're not going to get a 15-16 year old boy or girl that's going to want to tell you what they're up to, no chance.

'If there was a panic button, Facebook can look at what's being said on that conversation and say 'what's being said here is illegal.

Daniel's uncle Ron Reilly told MailOnline: 'If Daniel had come to me and said what happened I would've probably laughed it off'

Daniel's uncle Ron Reilly told MailOnline: 'If Daniel had come to me and said what happened I would've probably laughed it off'

'They can then run the conversation - in my case it would be them pretending they were Daniel - to try and get the information they need for prosecution.

'For what it costs and for what Facebook actually earns, to set something up and protect people, its nothing. It only has to save one life to make it worth it.'

Mr Reilly said the family were being kept up to date with the investigation in the Philippines and attempts to extradite suspects back to UK.

'Extortion is massive. The kids in the Philippines are definitely getting exploited too but we're now getting more and more aware of it.

'What the family ideally want is something set up so it can't happen to somebody else.

'We were really lucky we at least knew why Daniel killed himself. If we hadn't found that laptop that night, we would be thinking what have we been doing wrong, was it your fault, was it yours?

'People that lose somebody and have no idea why they do it, it must be ten times worse because you will blame each other.

'Having your 17-year-old nephew who you seen the day before, who was full of life and being his usual cheeky self, thrown himself of the Forth Road Bridge is just, you question why.

'Nothing is worth killing yourself over, nothing can be that embarrassing it's worth that.

'If Daniel had come to me and said what happened I would've probably laughed it off. I think if he had gone to anyone and explained it, he wouldn't have done what he did.'

For the longest time, I have felt that Blowing Wind should have a general thread for non-gay news, where readers can share stories about non-gay current events that don't truly need a new topic to be created. I hope the moderators do not think I am overstepping by making such a thread now, but I saw a cute news story I really want to share, while not feeling it needs a full topic just for this subject. Hopefully other posters can start adding non-gay news items of your own, emphasis on the word NEWS, and this can become another long-running multi-topic thread for the board.

After Crew Were Saved, Heroic Sailor Dived In Choppy Sea To Save 4 Cats From Sinking, Burning Ship

Tevye | Community (This content is not subject to review by Daily Kos staff prior to publication.) | Saturday, March 06, 2021 · 5:48 PM

Last Tuesday, the Royal Thai Navy Air and Coastal Defense Command received a distress signal from a ship off the coast of Thailand, near the island of Koh Adang.

The old wooden fishing vessel was on fire and beginning to sink.

dwqj5-sailors-rescue-cats-sinking-ship-5

By the time they got there, the ship was ablaze and the eight man crew had taken to the water, and picked-up by a passing fishing vessel.

A group of sailors, looking for possible oil spills from the now sinking ship, spotted on the bow, on a crane structure that had yet to go under, four important crewman that had been left behind.

2gt9s-sailors-rescue-cats-sinking-ship-3

The ship was sinking fast, and 23 year-old Thatsaphon Saii, of Operation Unit 491 jumped into action.

He took off his shirt and donned a life jacket, and with his long pants still on, jumped into the sea and swam the 50 yards over to the cats….who appeared to be anxiously waiting for him.

thai-cat-rescue-swns1.jpg

All four seemed to know exactly what was happening, and remained amazingly calm throughout.

“When we arrived it was to secure the wreckage and check for oil spills. But we noticed the cats onboard. I immediately took off my shirt and put on a life jacket so I could jump into the sea. The flames were at the back of the boat but it was starting to sink, so I knew I had to be quick.”

The four cats are now residents of the command post on the island of Koh Lipe ... the home of their rescuers.

Maybe they were so disoriented that they did not think about the cats? This still reflects poorly on them and I hope the Thai Navy treats the cats much better.

Racist 21-Year-Old Neckbearded Incel Murders Multiple Asians In Atlanta Area

robert aaron long

Robert Aaron Long was identified as a suspect accused of shooting five people at a spa in Woodstock, Cherokee County, Georgia. Officials said he was also a suspect in two other shootings in nearby Atlanta. The three shootings left eight people dead. Six of the victims were Asian, and police are investigating whether the shootings were fueled by a racist motive.

Deputies alleged he entered Young’s Asian Massage Parlor along Georgia Highway 92 and opened fire at about 5 p.m., shooting five people and killing four of them in Woodstock, an Atlanta suburb. Officials alleged he then drove to nearby Atlanta and opened fire at two additional Asian spas, Gold Spa and Aroma Therapy, killing four more people. He was taken into custody in Crisp County following a police chase nearly 200 miles away. Deputies named the 21-year-old Woodstock man as the suspect at about 8:30 p.m. Minutes later, they announced he had been arrested.

1. Long Is the Son of a Pastor & a Former Classmate Said ‘He Wouldn’t Even Cuss’

Long was described as a religious person by a former classmate at Sequoyah High. The 21-year-old graduated in 2017. His dad was a pastor, and Long seemed “innocent” and “nerdy,” the classmate told The Daily Beast.

“He was very innocent seeming and wouldn’t even cuss,” the classmate said. “He was sorta nerdy and didn’t seem violent from what I remember. He was a hunter and his father was a youth minister or pastor. He was big into religion.”

The local police say Robert Aaron Long killed the Asian women and other victims near Atlanta because he was having a bad day.

The racist police officer briefing the media seems more concerned about the white criminal than the families of the Asian victims.

This individual should be a good candidate for the death penalty.  Not so much as punishment,  but as a practical resolution of his existence.

If this is not possible,  then he should get a perpetual imprisonment (no parole).

Perhaps the blame could be split between his own evil nature and the evil education he may have received in his religious environment.

Also, "death penalty" can be too morbid or cruel as a designation.  In this case,  "euthanasia" is the right term.  To put the guy out of his suffering and sexual traumas in the occasions he has "a bad day".

America could be such an improved country if all the white supremacists would be deported and replaced with Asian and Latin American Hispanic immigrants.

Big into Religion yet we are now told he had been to two of these spas before and no doubt had happy endings. A roommate of his said he had a sexual addiction to spas. He had tried to stop but couldn't. There is one huge conflict - religion and sex. The second? How was it possible for this pervert able to purchase a gun only hours before the shootings? Then how were his religious parents so unaware of his sexual addiction? They bear some responsibility.

The local police say Robert Aaron Long killed the Asian women and other victims near Atlanta because he was having a bad day.

The racist police officer briefing the media seems more concerned about the white criminal than the families of the Asian victims.

What I read was that he wanted to cure his "sex addiction" by killing the women.

The interesting thing is: in the prudish US nobody is speaking out that the ladies engaged in prostitution in massage parlours if it is correct that Robert Aaron Long had sought sex services in this place as reported.

Don't get it wrong what the Long did was not excusable. Just noting...

The thing is that the whole news is directly jumping on things such as racism. If you look at the persons killed

Soon Chung Park,

Hyun Jung Grant,

Suncha Kim,

Yong Yue,

Delaina Ashley Yaun,

Paul Andre Michels,

Xiaojie Tan,

Daoyou Feng,

they weren't all Asians.

He told officers that he had frequented the massage parlors, which appear to sell sexual services, and that he considers himself to be suffering from a “sex addiction”. He claims that he shot up the massage parlors in order to rid himself of “temptation”.

Second, why are people taking psychopaths for so serious? If it wasn't a sex addiction but he had psychological issues himself.

Bible-carrying 21-year-old expressed a “deep feeling of remorse and shame” about his “porn addiction” — and “needed to return to prayer and to return to God.”

The more recent news is not pointing at a racist attack.

Most of the news is coming out now about the past of Robert Long.

Next to the "massage parlours Robert Aaron Long  went to his evangelical church for treatment.

Instead of pointing at racism the US should focus on these religious institutions causing more harm than good and instilling feelings of guilt into innocent people declaring their sexual urges as sins and other wrongs.

But now the media hype is jumping on this racism wagon, white supremacy and misogynist claims.

HopeQuest has ties to major evangelical institutions and has promoted “ex-gay therapy,” the idea that people can become heterosexual through counseling. Long, 21, who grew up in a conservative Southern Baptist church, was a patient at the treatment facility in 2019 and again in 2020, according to his former roommate Tyler Bayless.

The evangelical facility HopeQuest advertises its services for treating “sex addiction” and “pornography addiction,” alongside several descriptions for what it believes these addictions could include. Bayless said Long blamed his descent into addiction on pornography and used a flip phone instead of a smartphone to avoid temptation online.

However, several experts have said this week that Long’s ties to evangelicalism shine a light into a subculture called “purity culture,” a belief among some evangelicals that promotes the idea that any sexual desire outside of marriage is lustful, and therefore sinful. Some evangelicals are taught from a young age to control their sexual urges and if they cannot, they are sometimes labeled sex addicts or porn addicts.

HopeQuest is affiliated with several large evangelical churches in and around Atlanta, including the North Point megachurch and the historical First Baptist Church of Woodstock. With several counselors licensed by the state of Georgia, it is also a “professional” affiliate of the evangelical organization Focus on the Family.

In my opinion the shooting was a result of feeding wrongful religious sentiments such as lust is a sin etc in the young man and he ended up in this serious conflict.

To me it looks like this Long never found the path to find the right way to sexual encounters or a sexual relationship and most probably the religious healing programs made it even worse and his condition deteriorated. I wouldn't wonder, when Long didn't even have a sexual addiction but was just looking at a normal sex life (outside of procration).

The US should disallow religious organisations to offer such "healing" programs. Nobody is discussing on this.

Could you take some effort in reading the background of this incident first before you come with such misjudgment on the person involved.

Your post reflects nothing other than ignorance to the inherent issues surrounded in this case.

If any euthanasia should apply, then probably to your post...

Yes, I missed the fact that he had visited these spas frequently and that he shot the women to eliminate the consummation of his sinful desires.

But I wasn't far off.  There must have been some racist superiority in his mind, thinking that the recovery of his grace of purity was worth much more than the life of these insignificant Asian women who were nothing but tempting trash.   Otherwise,  why didn't he chose a remedy that would cause only one death instead of eight?   With the gun he bought he could have shot himself,  one clean shot through his brains.

In any case, it seems that this young man is beyond any fixing,  starting with the idea that his heinous acting does not deserve any efforts to fix him.  It is the same idea with a rabid dog:  kill the dog, and this kills the rabies.  Euthanasia can be a compassionate act that will end the sufferings of this guy.  Compare it with a long rest of his life in prison, with who knows what guilt feelings...

You are on the right track.  The US government should close all the "healing programs" by fanatic religious organizations.

This is an article about what I had missed previously:

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/18/us/robert-aaron-long-atlanta-spa-shooting.html

I hope the Moderator will understand what I feel and don't come down on me for making this comment about religion.

The Bible itself warns about "false prophets".  But... who looks out for these false prophets, who can masquerade behind any organized religion?  With today's knowledge of science and sociology it should be understood that religion has no business dealing with sex issues.  Religious SIN should only apply to violations of the Golden Rule. But in early times it was the religious leaders who also dictated the secular laws,  including what they thought of "decency".  Religion should not get involved in sexual orientation, sexual behavior the same as it does not get involved with our eating habits, our preferences of meat and vegetables, candy and sugars.

I read that some of the massage parlors in that area do illicit things but it seems like these two massage parlors were non-sexual. Even if they were, that doesn't excuse the murderous incel from his heinous deeds, because killing people is a million times worse than prostitution. If you read the articles where they list the ages of the victims, most of them were over 50, which is not a demographic many people would go to seeking prostitutes.

As for the fact that two of the eight victims weren't Asian, they were obviously in the wrong place at the wrong time, so that doesn't mean it wasn't a racially motivated hate crime either. Why are so many people in a rush to rule out racism? If a shooter murderers eight people in a gay bar, and two of the victims are straight, does that mean the killer wasn't targeting gays? America is a sick country with too many racists and that is just a fact.

The victim named Paul Michels was an electrician / handyman doing repairs at the massage parlor, and Delaina Yaun was there with her husband for a couples massage (he was in another room at the time of the attack and wasn't shot), while the one survivor is a Hispanic-American. That still leaves the six Asian women as victims, most of whom were over 50 and unlikely to be prostitutes, but legitimate masseuses trying hard to make a living.

Furthermore, there are also multiple strip clubs and adult book / video stores in that area, so why didn't he go into those places and start killing people? Don't they also have "sexual temptation" inside? But instead he targeted two massage parlors with Asian staffs, and then decided to drive to another state looking to kill other masage parlor workers, who likely would have been Asian. But keep shilling to pretend the white incel is not a racist.

The oldest son of the Korean-American victim named Hyun-Jung (Kim) Grant posted on GoFundMe seeking help to pay for his mother's funeral, and help himself and his younger brother deal with their living and education situations for the next few months to a year, in the wake of the horrific anti-Asian shootings in Atlanta. He only asked to raise $20,000 but has now received more than $2,400,000 in donations.

I have to say those two guys are absolutely gorgeous. The oldest son is 23 and I assume the youngest is still in high school or maybe in his early university years. It is so sad that they lost their mother in a senseless act of violence at such young ages. Even worse that people are accusing her of being a "sex worker" with no proof (though it doesn't matter if she was). I wish them the best in their lives going forward.

I am delighted that people have been so generous to those boys. Nothing will ever make up for the tragic loss of their mother, but at least their immediate futures are settled and their education can continue. I hope more money is contributed and that they share some with the families of the others killed who may not have been the beneficiaries of such generosity.

There Are Two Asian-Americas, and One Is Invisible
Who will recognize the humanity of the women who help us heal?
By Claudine Ko | Ms. Ko is the culture editor of T Brand at The New York Times | March 21, 2021

21Ko-jumbo.jpg

To get a Chinatown-style massage in New York, you don’t actually have to head down to Canal Street. There are countless spas across the city, obscure storefronts you hear about through word of mouth, places sporting familiar signage: BACK & FOOT RUB. They follow a similar business model: no frills, volume, astonishingly affordable.

- - - . . . - - - . . . - - -

The night after Robert Aaron Long, a 21-year-old white man, shot and killed eight people inside three Atlanta-area Asian massage businesses, I met up with a friend. We knew bits of Mr. Long’s story, and some of the victims’ names had finally been released. According to the police, Mr. Long, an evangelical Christian, claimed he had a sex addiction and viewed the businesses as “a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate.”

- - - . . . - - - . . . - - -

I described to her the yearlong sabbatical I took from journalism to help open a restaurant, where I also worked as a server, spending a good portion of my cash tips on different Asian masseuses to soothe my aching muscles each week. Their job, like mine, was very physically demanding, helping client after client. With my rudimentary Mandarin, I could only exchange a few words: My back hurts a lot. That’s fine. Thank you. When I spoke to them in Chinese, I could sometimes sense a softening. But ultimately we remained alien to each other. “Who gives these women massages at the end of their shifts?” I wondered. It is low-paying, grueling work done mostly by immigrant women, often middle-aged, who, in my experience, have never exhibited an inclination to play the temptress.

- - - . . . - - - . . . - - -

Growing up, I observed white Americans belittle my family; the experience rearranged my perceptions of authority. I learned not to waste time engaging with the frivolous and ignorant, but to focus on the best revenge: success. My parents didn’t make it to this country and work tirelessly for their native English-speaking children to become victims of systemic racism — to fail.

- - - . . . - - - . . . - - -

Since returning to full-time journalism in 2016, I have rarely gone for a massage. In the past year, I often have wondered what has happened to these women. How are they paying their bills? Who is helping them heal? Who is recognizing their humanity?

Maybe the access for guns and weapons in Singapore is less thank compared to the US.

And pointing on racism just to white people won't resolve to reduce racism in the world.

Singapore's society is obsessed with race. Please look around. If you can't see it, then talk to minorities or Ang Mohs in Singapore. It would be a learning experience.

Racism is an issue in Singapore too. Do you want to ignore it?

You did not read the full articles on this Long. Please do your homework first.

Your earlier post misquoted the news and reports.

The massage parlours had entertained guests for sex services, that was one of the main reasons why Robert Long went inside on this shooting spree.

It was clearly said that the massage parlours had received warnings and fines for having violated the regulations on such sex services.

But more important:

The guy was a psycho. Unfortunately, he sought sex with Asian women. If he had sought sex at a brothel with Hispanic ladies he probably had shot Hispanics.

At no point Robert Long went out to say he killed Asian women because they are Asian. And he did not go out and shoot the ladies because he felt inferior or as a "white supremacist". He did not say he is white and shoots Asian women.

He shot the women at the massage parlour because they cause him to be a "sinner".

Please read the full news about this Robert Long. He should have not gone to the church to seek help but to a Psychiatrist. Unfortunately, he didn't which lead to his mental condition.

If you read news only selectively and not the full details reported you naturally will draw the wrong conclusions. And refrain from "interpreting" events if you do not have full knowledge of the facts.

At no point I say, there is no discrimination of Asian American. Yes there is. But this shooting is not such a case. Sorry.

Sorry, but this is a weak response.

I don't condone what this Robert Long did. I don't want to justify his killings. There is no excuse. But I don't see it as anything connected with racism.

To quote your own posts containing your personal interpretations but omitting the facts from this case of Robert Long is inexpedient.

Repeating your own conclusions doesn't make them conclusive.

If you don't take any effort on looking at this Robert Long and his psychic issues in details, you will not come to any correct conclusions.

You close your eyes on certain pointers in the facts on this Robert Long case.

It is your personal intrinsic interpretation for Robert Long to be a white racist.

You judge people according to their skin colour. This is dangerous.

And you prefer to jump on quick conclusions (white = racist). This is dangerous too.

You seem to be prejudiced against white people. Sorry to say. Isn't that sort of racist too?

You are no better than all those people who have been quickly jumping on this racist wagon instead of taking the tiniest look at the personality of this Robert Long.

There is no info that Robert Long ever posted any hatred against Asians at any of his social media posts or that he ever uttered any racist words against Asians.

Please do better.  If you don't want to take the slightest effort to look at the facts but prefer to close your eyes, then it is your problem.

The easy accessibility of guns in the USA is an absolute disgrace IMHO.

If you just happen to be 'having a bad day' or you simply 'don't like Mondays', you can just murder people of your choosing or people that were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sad but true in the good old 'land of the free'.

Question for the moderators (@Bern, @G_M, @HendryTan, and rest of crew) ... since there are now so many posts on the Asian-American hate crimes since March 17 ... I think all except one empty post by Nightingale and one post by Fab responding to the cat rescue issue are on the Asian-American hate crimes ... should this discussion be pulled out and made into a separate thread called something like Anti-Asian Hate Crimes In USA & Other Nations (compiled)? That would make this subject easier to find, since it seems to be gathering a lot of interest on its own, rather than as part of a larger multi-topic discussion. I believe there was also another Anti-Asian Hate Crime thread posted on March 25 which can be incorporated as well.

I am pleasantly surprised that none of our resident lefty posters have mentioned the shootings in Boulder, Colorado, or tried to exploit that fairly normal incident as an excuse for the Biden Regime to confiscate every gun in the country, and snatch them away from freedom-loving Americans, who are not hurting anyone by cherishing their hard-fought Right To Bear Arms from the Second Amendment of their Constitution.
