How To Blanch Almonds

By Peggy Trowbridge Filippone

Some recipes call for blanched almonds, which are almonds with the skins removed. This blanched almond recipe method is quick and easy.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: 5 minutes

Here's How:

Place almonds in a bowl.

Pour boiling water to barely cover almonds.

Let the almonds sit for 1 minute and no longer.

Drain, rinse under cold water, and drain again.

Pat dry and slip the skins off.

Tips:

Don't let almonds sit in hot water too long or they will lose their crispness.

Actually need not go to baking store if you don't need big quantity. Most supermarket like Fairprice, Cold storage, Seng Siong would have the blanch almond in small packet. Look for them in the BAKING section and not the dried food section. They are usually placed together with food colouring, flours, baking chocolates etc. Phoon Huat is the most common among housewife as they have many stores island wide. They carry whole kennel, slice, grounded or blanch.
