A bottle of GHB? I think you'll need to be doing your PHD studies for it! Let me know if you need a test subject to conduct your GHB thesis! Kekeke.. =p

But seriously though, how do you guys do it? I put it off last year and am contemplating it this year. I'm just afraid I may not be able to cope with the current work expectations plus, will having a masters really help in your career? Unless you're in the government sector, I'm not sure how useful it can be...

the usefulness is dependent on how u interpret the final takeaway.

I felt that what were covered in my undergrad were v much tactical for work. as for postgrad, it's about the "why the tactic works (or not)". more strategic rather than tactics.

not sure how others feel though coz perhaps diff fields have diff takeaways? lol

Some ppl find it tough at the beginning, some find it tough towards the end. Some find the middle part is worst. Whatever is your reason, bear in mind that you need to bite the bullet and press on. Life is gonna get better there after.

Singapore is a "paper oriented" society. With so many degree holders around, having something extra will do you no harm.

However, we must not forget that the Masters or PhD can only give you a better starting point. How you run your race is still up to you.

Just my two cents.

I got my PhD from the UK and couldn't find a suitable job in Singapore. So I left for Sydney as a suitable job in my area came up there. It's been 9 years and no regrets. Sometimes you got to be a bit flexible and be prepared to move around a bit of there are no jobs in yourindustry. Btw my PhD is in health. It's a fallacy to think that there are a lot of jobs in health.

Forensic science? I've been looking for forensic dentistry and there aren't that many schools that offer the course :/

Need to go overseas for this, one of the 3 (if my memory doesn't serve me wrongly) forensic dentist in singapore went overseas to UK to do his masters in clinical dentistry in UK. It's a very very very ultimately small field of study, with very very few people doing it.

Currently there's Dundee, Adelaide, Perth & Leuven in Belgium but they're all 1-year programmes (we need to do 3-year masters programme in order to be registered as a specialist here in Malaysia). There's a lot of dental schools in India that offer 2-year programme but I ain't going there haha. Currently waiting for an offer from Leuven, will continue with PhD if masters results are good (will come back to teach eventually). Are you in medical? Where are you doing your masters?

Nope I'm not in medical, I've applied my masters in sports science in singapore recently, waiting for confirmation (cross my fingers). I happen to know about the forensic dentistry because one of the forensic dentist in singapore was some top shot in the military medical service, which I used to serve in.

It is okay guys.  When I did my MPhil by research, I faced 4 tough personal chair prof as supervisors.  I thought I was climbing a steep slope mountain that has no peak.  But wala it was over and done with.  And I am still surviving and standing.  So keep pushing yourself to extend your limits.  You are reaching your self-actualisation goal.  Just do it!

Completed my MBA recently. Was an extremely painful experience especially when I was doing it part time while doing a demanding full time job! Aspiring MBA candidates, please think carefully...

What were the difficulties you faced? Care to share? Edited by bluerunner
