Standard hostel will have a locker, that is large enough for a small carryon case/backpack and maybe to hang some clothes.

the Japanese/Taiwanese overnight sauna will just have the regular gym locker size. hang some clothes, maybe one rack for shoes.

 

when you are separated from your valuables, common practice is to lock them in a smaller bag and double lock your bag zips

esp important things like passport etc. -gives you extra peace of mind.

recent trend i have been seeing is some japanese and european backpackers travel with a metal mesh that they put over their whole bag,

so then they lock the zips and chain their bag to their beds, better if they are on the lower bunk.

 

this saves up room in their lockers for hanging clothes, toiletries, other supplies.

I am Malaysian Chinese and due to work purpose, I am regularly check in those backpacker hostels in KL since July this year till now. Almost four months, only one time manage to have fun with another guest from Indonesia.

not all hostels offer male only drom rooms I think, some have only mixed and female, but not male. Better look for those that have, you are right about that! Which hostel was this one if you don't mind sharing?

I had this experience sleeping naked in a hostel in Kuala Lumpur. If you know Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang, there are lots of hostels around that area. I stayed in a hostel just in front of Frangipani, outside it looks old but inside the rooms were renovated, given a new look etc. I chose to stay in an all male dorm with 2 bunk beds. I checked-in late and never saw anyone in the room with 4 beds. On the first bunk bed I saw that there was a towel hanging on the rails of the top bed , so I chose to use the Other bunk bed, the bottom one. Since I was so tired and felt dirty due to the travel, I went for a shower , asked the Indian crew were the showers were and went for it.

 

After shower , I just felt the urge to sleep naked and mind you when the doors of these hotels are closed it is really pitch black. We don’t have windows. So I slept, slept , slept like a naked baby.

 

Alas I heard noises of people talking in a different language, I woke up facing 3 Ang moh guys , 2 sitting on the opposite bunk bed and one stripping until his briefs. The lights were now turned on. I was startled but I was not ashamed of me being naked, I just faced them and set non chalantly with my blanket on.

 

they were young guys in there 20s going around south east Asia backpacking , from Sweden.  They went to the national park while Iw as checked in and arrive late.

Not as much as before because of my job, now its mostly every quarter or every two months.

 

However , for my story above, that was when I was still living in Penang . So once I got bored and already been to all the bars  in Upper  Penang Road , I tried going to KL every weekend. Since that time I didn't know anyone from KL, I usually stay in hostels around Bukit Bintang. I really like the vibe there because its as if you're in a different country, meeting people from different countries , adding them in Friendster and in WAYN, that was more than 10 years ago :-)

If you go to an all-male capsule hotel in Japan, it's quite normal to see naked men walking around.

I think it depends on the country. In Singapore, you'll attract undue attention.

In asia countries such as japan, korea and China, it is so common to walk around or sleep naked in bathhouse or same-sex hostel room. Likewise for Europe countries hostels. whereas in Singapore, we seemed to be conservative to be cautions on being nude.

I would say the park bench on East Coast Park, but you must look out that the police won't arrest you at night. And PLEASE no beer at the beach after 10.30 pm...

there are lots of such hostels in little india and along jalan besar and bencoolen street that cater to backpackers and budget travellers.  also some in geylang but these are quite sleazy and its occupants may not be as appealing.

I've been to the Backpackers Inn in Taipei a few times, and it's always a good experience each time, as there's always boys to play with.

I had a good experience years ago at 24 Kaikan Asakusa in Tokyo

I spent a night in a men-only capsule hotel in Osaka - Hotel Cabana, with an attached spa and sauna.  Yes, I slept naked, as is my norm. 

It has a pull down, light proof curtain, so there was privacy - unless someone decides to open your curtain, of course. 

 

In the middle of the night, I walked naked to go take a piss.  Every one seems to be asleep, and I just could not be bothered with a robe.  No one saw me, but I doubt anyone would complain as it was a men only joint.  In the right location the Japanese are generally not that hung up on nudity.

Will be travelling to US for christmas to new year. Booked different hostels for male only rooms. Will the other guys feel offended if i sleep naked?
