Vietnam - Massage / Sauna (Compiled)

Moustache

Recommended Posts

I had been to HCM City about 18 months ago, however read to many advises from other gay webs that engaging a male masseur to be avoided as many of them are keen to extort money from tourist by just pretending to be masseur, although I’ve seen some of male escort or money boys were with angmohs (they can easily recognized from the dress and behaviour) roaming on shopping centres. I believe Utopia-Asia also warned about this.

There are a number of foot reflexology shops which to be chosen either male or female, some of them also offering massage but I didn’t try it as the outlet was a mixed and all the massage beds only separated by a curtain. The foot reflexology fee is quite low, I think about US$5 and the maaseur expected to be tipped also for another US$5, I tried before to give US$1-2 but not happy, maybe they used to be tipped generously by the yankees.

I just enjoyed a good makan and cheap, touring the city and slow pace life there. Shopping not worth it, Bangkok offered better price and better quality of goods.

Been to HCMC several times. Few years ago, there was a gay discotheque situation along the main shopping area, along Tong kai road. It was like our 70's discotheques, where guys with tight shirt and pants, dancing cha cha and slow dance together. I been inside once as the entrance was really cheap, about S$5 with a drink. As the music and the environment were too "old" for me, i left. While i was in there, there were several guys talked to me and hinting me to bring them back to hotel. I did not want to do that as i know the punishment for gay sex in communist country can be very severe. The discotheque has beed closed by the local authority and all pubs have to close by midnight. Several raids for drugs also carried out regularly.

There is a spa club, a very grand one situated in the middle of the city. I cannot recall its name but their services are professional and good. They have both male and female masseurs, spa...steam and hot saunas. The cruising is happening at the steam and saunas. Quite alot of cute and middle age guys. The masseurs also provide special services upon request. The club is not difficult to locate and can easily access by taxi but beware of the extortion by the taxi drivers and avoid street MB.

better dun play play in HCMC

like china, another communist state, money boys and extortion are common. Utopia should have provide ample warning, even something as common as Karaoke may be dangereous. Well police will not be much of help unless you know some big shot there.

my advise, try the hotel's spa or sauna. generally only tourists or well-to-do vietnames will patron such places and chances of extortion are lower (of coz it may still happen, so use caution)

unless you are accompany by your local friends or inside the hotel, i would also advise going to massage palor.

personally, if you are thinking of having fun, BKK is a much better place.

i was robbed around 200US$ in HCM last march when i followed the masseur to his place, 200US$ for just a Hand job. so stupid ....

This is most awful exprience to me.

Do be careful at PHANG MU LAO area (for back packers) where you can see

some masseurs cruise on the steet ( can be identified with the bells on their bicycles)

Oh dear, that was an expensive experience for massage & handjob, US200 (S$370).

Last year also I went to HCM City and bought a package tour Free & Easy and stayed at Hotel Windsor Plaza, HCM City. Also heard about this extortion before from some friends, so I also avoid them. Better substained than sorry.

However, I went to massage centre within the hotel itself, it stated traditional massage (and I thought it would be similar like those female masseurs in Bangkok), but once enter, it's actually not like that but individual room. The changing rooom, toilet, shower, powder room were attended by 5-6 goodlooking men (more yummy than the female masseurs) who would offer you as a guest the towel, tissue, comb lah, etc and hope you would tip also, but I didn't do it.

Massage was also so so, nothing to compare with Thai traditional massage. The massage fee was quite low, I think about US$12-15 and as usual they asked for tip thereafter and the amount similar to the massage fee.

If would suggest, just go for holiday there and see the other part of the world, the food is good, good coffee, good pizza and very good western cakes (I think they got influenced from their colonial master the Frenchmen and the Amis)

Avoid the massage even the traditional and other personal related service as unreasonable tip is expected, for such service I would suggest Bangkok is much better than HCM city.

from what i understand, the massage fee goes entirely to the massage center, what the masseurs earn is from your tips.

unlike other countries where masseurs has a cut of the massage and hence requested smaller tips.

My advice is to avoid all those frills, just be alert and make a decent trip.

Unless you have some local friend there and they can show you around. I went to those Spa clubs and gay discotheques with my vietnamese friends, so i felt safe but again, they kept an eye on me too.

The Vietnamese population are generally short, small build compare to other Asian cities. Looks malnutrition to me. Maybe the reason is the govt did not approve too many fast food chain. The straight establishment far outnumber the PLU type because the overall population has more female than male.

What happening to us here? This is matured guy’s forum and yet become so childish? Some opinions on other member’s statement, it’s argumentative as each of us has own platform to argue, but fact is not argumentative, like the topic below.

The topic was started by our member called ‘moustache’ asking for some info on Ho Chi Minh City or the former Saigon in southern Vietnam

As mentioned by Worldangel, it’s correct that the Halong Bay is located in northern Vietnam, near Hanoi. It’s clearly described in the attached map. To make sure, maybe 2 maps would do the description.

Wrong also, die die must speak louder. Hope our younger bros from other gay web would not laugh at us.

Were in HCMC on a guided tour last year.

Other than the Cu Chi Tunnel and those colonial buildings which were kinda of interesting, HCMC has nothing much to offer. I would consider HCMC to be somewhat 'dry and boring'. No offences please.

Halong Bay will be a wiser choice.

Nevertheless, to each his own.

Just get there and look beyond.

Enjoy your holiday.

This is another 'typical blur king like sotong', do not know anything and never read the topic and its contents, maybe also never been in HCM City and yet wanna comment something. The 4 to 5 members who contributed their experiences in this forum had been there and they also read the travel warning from other web.

If you had been in HCM City before and felt that you had better and sweet experiences in HCM city and describe here lah so that you could proof the 4-5 guys and the travel warning were wrong.

The other 'blur king' one, never been in HCM city and read maybe from magazine and yet wanna comment about Halong Bay of which he confused himself about the geography, where it is actually?. Maybe he meant Dalat Resort which located on hill side northen region of HCM city.

We have to admit that we live in our lovely city state 'red dot' country, of which we also confused ourself where is the boundary between Tanglin Rd, Orchard Rd, Scotts Rd, Penang Rd and Bras Basah Rd which all linked together? And yet wanna talk about Vietnam so big country with 85 million population.

Hi the duck! i am a Vietnamese gay guy who was born and risedin HCM city. as a local gay man, poor and not so well educated and well travelled person, i have had experienced quite a few really bad and insulted incidents which involved tourists that come from Korea, HK, Sing and specially Chinese from mainland China. most of these mature gay men thought if they gave you $5 bucks that they can treat you like a piece of dusk????remember BKK in the old day! when sex was the only thing that attract to dirty old men( westerners) go to!

please if all you are interested to have a good root in VN i think it may not be a desire place for you to go. LOVE, RESPECT AND PEACE

Xin Chao, ban khoe khong? I believe you didn't understand or refused to understand what the 4-5 guys who had given their comments about their experiences during their stay in HCM City and advised other not to be involved in gay activity especially gay masseurs and this warning also sounded by the Utopia-Asia's web and to proof further, one guy said he was robed for USD200. If you read their comments carefully, none of them talking 'bad' about the people.

Anyway, your identity whether you are true Vietnamese is still doubtful. You should have more concern when a guy commented the above "The Vietnamese population are generally short, small build compare to other Asian cities. Looks malnutrition to me". This statement for me is more nonsense and insulting as physical appearance of any people, not necessarily to be malnutrition and you as Vietnamese doesn't bother about this statement und pick-up other nitti gritti comment about HCM city. Tam biet, cam on. Hen gap lai.

Any recommendation for a good hotel to stay in Hanoi. Need not be budget hotel. Convenience is key. BTW, besides, SQ, what other airlines fly direct from Singapore?

better for you to stay at the central part of Hanoi near the Hoan Kiem lake. Go check out the www.greenbamboo.com its a local tour agnecy, very good connections and trsuted.

stay at Hilton or sofitel or melia all in town, can walk around easly. there are chepaer hotels too but maybe u stay one nite at Melia and seek out the cehpare ones near the lake that fits you bill.

lots of crisuing ariund the lakes and many money boys too so becareful

can also cruise in the public open air toilets just for fun to soak up the "atmosphere".. if u know wat i mean... hehehe

Check out the guys at SIA and CX office hanoi some seem to be gay, but not all so cute... make fren then maybe they take u around...check out the clubs, u will find cuter ones

Also go to the local gyms, pay as u entre for use type like our stadium here, lots of BB and gay guys...

if got time go Ha Long bay, very beautiful... pick up a guy from Hanoi and go there... lots of uni students 20s looking to learn english and make some money... these are more trustworthy.. got travle companion to help u with the language, got romantic boat rides and lots of sex at nite or noon or morning or all the time... hehehehehehe

Today is yet another hoilday in japan and Coincidentally, i had vietnamese food for lunch. The ironic thing is that they played chinese instrumental music in that resturaunt. anyway, moi wondering where are the places good for food if one visits vietnam?

;)

for food its not worth going to Hanoi

HoChiMinhCity is best for food and there are lots of lovely places to eat...mostly along Thai Van Lung street, Dong Khoi st as well as the lanes of this st but you must try the Hue food which is Central Viet food. This type is a little more like dim sum, all in small protions and absolutely delicious.

The more expensive and fine dining places are the Mandarin and a sister rest name I forgot. just pick up the toursit guide from the local endlish paper, Vietnam Investment reveiw.

in spore, you can go to this small but authentice place called vietnam express in the Nankin Row of shophses in China Sq Central near far east sq. there is even a sweetener in the form of a cute vietnamese boi-boi looking waiter who set my gaydar off when I visited.

The food is as authentic as u can get here and tyhe music they play is vietnamese.

Oh my god !!! Hochiminh is a place for food ??? :swear: ... I recommend you try the food from Hanoi, it tastes so different.

Food culture in Vietnam is different, it is more street food.

Gay places, both cities offer gay sauna. HCM has gay massage also, not Hanoi

Check utopia for further information.

Ha Long Bay in northeastern Vietnam is a complex of offshore islands being one of the most typical examples of marine-invaded tower karsts. The Bay consists of more than 1.600 islands and islets hiding inside many spectacular caves and grottoes with stalactites and stalagmites. The bay’s sublime & magnificent beauty sets it apart from other sites and is drawing millions of cruisers every year.

It is said that the perfect way to discover and enjoy the world natural wonder is to jump onto a traditional junk sailing to the far-most corners where there are hidden lagoons, unexploited beaches with pure emerald water and exotic grottos that can be found nowhere else in the world.

Remember to check out: Golden Lotus Massage. It's a very clean and proper massage place run by a Korean boss. Very popular with the expats there.

I'm considering flying down for probably 3 nights coming May

Not looking for fun, relaxations or shopping but i just wanna experience that very interestingly messy city out there

For anyone who's been there, what's your experience like?

I think above recommendation is great. Try to stay around the Downtown area where REX hotel, Opera house is located. There are some in-expensive hotels (www.agoda.com) in that vicinity. Cu Chi Tunnel is a one-day excursion and you could book a nice & clean local taxi. Bargain with the driver.

Best place for Foreign Exchange is inside the Ben Thanh Market. Most stall holders also change $ in that store.

Don't forget to visit the War museum too.

Again guys i'm not going there to relax chill out or anything like that so massages are out. I would like to just explore the city

I visited a local massage place where the masseurs are all Blind. Its located in a refurbished complex that look like a school. There is a nice courtyard with a little garden after entering through the huge metal gate. I could imagine little students running around the treed-courtyard as you walk towards the colonial looking school with corridors. The massage area is clean but the toilet is fithly. The local uncles cruise in those few smelly cubicles.

The massage is OK only, (as compared to Blind man massage in KL). My masseur is about 30 years old, skinny and short. In fact, most of them are not tall due to their diet. He could speak English because he said he had an old English boyfriend who had gone home and lost contact.

After the massage, I gave him a small tip. As I was walking out of the complex, my masseur came up from behind, with a odd looking stick in his hand. He tip and tap the stick to guide him to the gate. He heading straight for the crazy world outside.

Crazy because the traffic in HCMC is full of motorcycles and bicycles. I was shocked he walked right into the traffic. Miraculously, he was not hit. I ran after him and asked where he is going. He smiled and said he wanted to buy a bowl of noodle, tightly grasping the tip I gave him earlier. I realised these poor guys must have relied on tips in order to afford a desirous bowl of noodle. I watched him navigate through the sea of motorcycles, tapping the wooden stick for direction and left with a HEAVY heart.

Saigon is a place a gay man can esily fall in love with. The men there are slim built and beautiful looking. Many are mixed blooded with asian and french blood. Not everyone is skinny and short like the typical stereotyped. My ex boyfriend is 185cm, nice slim body with amazing bubble butt and a dick 8 inches long. May Vietnamese men are very shy on the surface. But extremely wild when in bed. The gay sauna scene is teeming with life and so is the sex cinemas. Straight or gay, you never know. Because fxxking a man's backside is very common for straight guys. and they will never ever admit that they are gay because most of them are married by the age of 30yo with kids. Poorer Vietnamese men will do almost anything for money. There are still many poor kids and people living on the streets. So please be generous with your charity or tips because many are living with very little everyday. The rich are ridiculously rich.. and the poor are extremely poor...Just like singapore i supposed...

Serve my fellow bottom men well !

For anyone who's been there, what's your experience like?

There are different kinds of hotels for you to choose. The cheapest 5 star hotel should be New World hotel, next to Ben Thanh market (the heart of Ho Chi Minh city). Around that location there are several hotels too. I think if you are not into 5 star hotels, let's try A&Em hotel, reasonable price, nice location, new and clean rooms. If you wanna spend more money on luxury hotels, try the 5 star ones near the Opera House (Sheraton, Park Hyatt).

Places to visit:

- Night market (around Ben Thanh market). Just go around and take a look. There are not a lot of things to buy, but you can see a part of night life in Ho Chi Minh city.

- Bui Vien - De Tham - Pham Ngu Lao: my favorite place. A lot of tourists who do not wanna spend a lot of money are here. Local people here are friendly, good at English. There are a lot of coffee shops, pubs, restaurants; most of them are cheap.

- Cu Chi tunnel: famous place for tourist. You can buy a ticket from Sinh Cafe (not so sure about the name of the Tour Company now...) Sinh cafe is @ De Tham street.

- Notre Dame de Saigon, Ho Chi Minh city post office, Dong Khoi street, the Opera House: nice places to visit.

- China Town (District 5): Nice and old buildings with some very famous temples...

- War museum

BAR, COFFEE SHOPS, PUBS AND CLUBS: Because you are not into meeting local guys, I'm not gonna talk about gay clubs. These are nice places that I think you may like:

- Yoko bar (Nguyen Thi Dieu street) / The Factory / Acoustic (Ngo Thoi Nhiem street): Live music (alternative, rock). When I was there, those places were always full on weekend. Local underground artists cover English and Vietnamese rock/alternative/jazz songs, a bit similar to Timber's style (but most of the songs are catchy and familiar). They are my favorite places, especially if you come with your friends. Bad thing about those bars: 99% people there are smokers. If you are not a smoker like me, you may not be able to stay there for more than 2 hours.

- Top floor of Centec Tower (Nguyen Thi Minh Khai) / Level 23 of Sheraton Hotel / The top floor bar or pub of the Bitexco Financially Building: you can see the whole city from those bars. Nice ambient, the food and drink is not so good but not so bad.

- Coffee shop: People in Saigon (old name of Ho Chi Minh City) love coffee. And you can't say that you've been to Ho Chi Minh City if you havent tried a cup of coffee there (with or without milk, hot or cold, it's up to you). There are a lot of nice coffee shops for you to try... I prefer quite places like Serenade (Ngo Thoi Nhiem Street, near Acoustic), Papa (gay coffee shop, but it's a nice place overall. Try to go here @ day time), or Au Parc (Han Thuyen street, near Notre Dame de Saigon). But if you like famous and busy coffee shops, you can try any Highlands Coffee Shops (Nguyen Du street, Le Loi street), or Mojo (Dong Khoi street), Ciao Lounge (Nguyen Thiep).

Restaurant:

- Pho (Beef Noodle): of couse you have to try this, if you can eat beef. The best one imo is Pho Hung (Nguyen Trai street, district 1).

- Ngon (160 Pasteur, district 1): you can try different kinds of local food here. Cheap price, nice place. Let go for the famous spring and summer rolls.

- Broken Rice: Com Tam Moc (85 Ly Tu Trong street) I love this.

- Hue Food: Rat Hue (Truly Hue, 136/11 Le Thanh Ton, near Ben Thanh market): the food from the old capital of Vietnam.

- Temple Club (29 Ton That Thiep): nice restaurant and pub. Level 1 of the same building is the best ice cream shop (from France) imo. Level 2 of the building is a bbq restaurant, it's nice as well.

If you still have time, visiting Phu My Hung, district 7 may be a nice idea. It's kind of a hi-end place where rich people stay in a less messy environment.

Actually May is not a good time to visit Ho Chi Minh city because of the hot weather or the rain season (it is unpredictable nowadays, actually, what kind of weather it is in May). Nov, Dec and Jan should be the best time for visiting there.

Be careful with your wallet and your belongings. It's not as safe as in Singapore.

I was in Vietnam yesterday and I still couldn't believe that I had sex with a Vietnamese guy at the Airport toilet even with no words being spoken between the two of us. He couldn't speak a single english word and I couldn't speak Vietnamese aside from "cam on" which means thank you. Everything was accomplished through hand & eye signals. This had also happened to me one time in Thailand while I was jogging at the park. I guess the language of pleasure is universal wherever we go in the world.
