Asura
Have this question in mind for a long time. Now a days seen alot of stall opening and closing, and they call themselves katong laksa, probably a franchise or using its name.Is it really that good? I had tried many katong laksa around SG, and I find different standards offered by different stall.I don't really find the taste "special", of cause I always like Laksa, but I find no difference in it.How do you feel? Panda_9791
I'm a fan of Katong Laksa since young and staying near Katong almost my whole life definitely helps! All these while, i have also tried Laksa from other areas, but i must say Katong is still my fav (328 Laksa!). I think the main reason is its soup base. It's not as oily as some place and the coconut base is just nice. Generally, i feel that the taste is "lighter". Quote Koh Samui, I need u... Asura
originally i stay in katong for almost a year, and enjoy the 328 too, come how, over the years, the taste get different slowly.Don't know if its my taste buds or the people just trimming and trimming the ingredients as years goes by with all the flatuation of economy... Baloo
try the laksa at kelantan lane BEHIND the DSC clinic block, not the one beside it it's called the Kiet Sng Kio Laksa or something like that... the trademark sign being the charcoal fire warming the laksa soup. you see a gas stove, run away! wrong stall...absolutely nice... My ex-colleagues all think I am siao one... Quote Visit me @ http://ibuaya.blogspot.com
Asura
Buaya, still complain your BF is calling you fat liao, drfink every drop I tried teh Kiat Sng Kio Laksa before, its not a bad choice if prefer not 328 or katong. When I was young, they sell pretty cheap, I think its 50 cent, slowly it increase to $1. Many frenchise open around our island, but the taste is far from it, probably not the original. Baloo
yeah... that time they were located at the hawker centre/coffee shop NEXT to the DSC... opposite the Lim Ah Boy motorcycle spare parts/stickers shop. they raised the price becos the rest of the stalls complained that when laksa stall is open nobody patronise the other stalls selling minimum $1.50 at that time... so they raised to $1. and finally, in time raised to $2 per bowl for the same reason... no choice la... wanna sell cheep also cannot... kena from the 15 other stall owners...and then they sold that stall space for a big profit and moved to the coffee shop BEHIND the DSC building... the new guy used all the same things, even the accolates given by makan sutra and city magazines etc.... but changed to gas stove to heat the laksa soup... most tot the original stall just 'upgraded' to gas...and continue to patronise... but to me, the standards drop drastically... till i found out they actually moved... but... even today, their standards have dipped a bit leow... the soup not so full of flavour anymore... noticably less dried shrimp (hae bee) in the soup leow... Asura
oh well... I understand what you mean, but food now a days really cannot even compare to those 10 or 20 years earlier. Probably economic and social pressure is really big...No wonder akated is so firece in defending the term "Authentic" Quote It's just me.... Asura... don't fear, but be very afraid....
