Guest guest Posted March 1, 2017 Report Share Posted March 1, 2017 some onsen open 24hrs some don't. you got to check with the hotel. most onsen have male and female pools. they usually swap it so you get to experience both different pool. so make sure you check the curtain or signage before entering. if you have the chance must experience out door onsen. it's really a very nice and good feeling. totally relaxing. tokyo have huge onsen spa. you should give it a try too. the spa feature many different pool with different water temperature. cold both. rain shower etc etc. if you can afford, stay in a traditional ryokan with private bath. usually includes 2 meals and 1 night. very worth the money you pay! Most onsens in the hotels do not open 24 hours. Reasons include time needed to upkeep the place or cost does not justify to keep the water at a certain temperature when very few people will visit them during odd hours.
