Malaysians Vs Singaporeans (compiled)

So has anyone notice any 'real' differences between our appearances? This has been in my mind from time to time and I have discussed this with some friends.

Whenever I'm in Singapore, I noticed everyone is carrying themselves better.

You guys dress nicely, act more civilized, speak better(to a certain degree), etc.

In that sense, I do find you guys more attractive. Everyone just has standards there.

However, in terms of features, I do think Malaysians are generally better looking (I'm talking about genetics here).

It's just that we don't usually dress up or be fancy in general. Even if we do, I do believe you Singaporeans are more game in the appearance department cause you guys for some odd reason just know how to dress better.

I myself am guilty of the whole "jeans with slippers" charades (half assing the way I dress) just cause I'm lazy. (I'm from Msia btw)

My friends generally agree with this.

I'm just kinda wondering, what do you Singaporeans think? The ones that have been to Malaysia or know Malaysians firsthand, of course.

(or if you're Malaysian, what do you notice?)

The thing about Malaysians are they fall in very generic types. There's the group that's better looking, the average, the ugly ones. If you go on hornet, scroll to the different locations and you can kinda see a trend. If most people are driving, there's really not much "dressing-up" required. Who really sees what you wear or how you dig your nose in a car ride taking more than an hour each way.

The latest trend of malaysians seem to be the curry puff hair. Nothing on the sides, just the big puff on top.

In Singapore, it been a while that short clean cut has become the standard from what I see. No sides, short on top.

I don't see any difference in genetics between Singaporeans and Malaysians.  Don't our ancestors all come from Guangdong and Fujian Province (referring to Chinese here) "?

If there is any difference, it is that Malaysian Chinese have fairer skins because they don't do NS like our local boys who were exposed to the sun and therefore poorer skin condition.  On the other hand,  our local boys look leaner and fitter in general.

I think TS is referring to what mental stereotypes we refer to in order to differentiate who is from where.

In general, I can tell some are Malaysians while there are a bunch who are really hard to tell.

Perhaps watching some local YouTube videos done by both Singaporean (NoC) and Malaysians (DanKhoo) might let you see the difference.

These are the general markers which will make me wonder if the person is Malaysian:

- hairstyle is quite unique, and usually dyed << stereotyping JB boys who are also hairstylists

- clothing seems to be of a tighter cut; this does not mean everyone wears tight fit, some Malaysians also wear their clothing too baggy

- either the Malaysian take very good care of their skin or simply don't take care at all (former usually is somehow fair and latter is quite tanned)

- face shape and type is generally out of the 'SIngapore' mould; i find more Malaysians (Chinese) to be somehow hairier, both body and face

I think it is easier to spot a JB native than someone from KL.

Most people whom I didn't know were Malaysians happen to come from KL, probably because their intonation is rather similar to Singapore.

And when I was in KL, I have been mistaken for a local. (Hardly the case when I go to JB.)

According to one Malaysian I chatted with, it is not because Singaporeans know how to dress better.

It is just because Singaporeans just follow the trend (blindly) and also subconsciously the ones who like Singapore will also think Singaporeans look good.

Just like how some Singaporeans love thinking how every Korean boy is well-dressed, even if he wears his cap backwards with a basic hoodie.

Interesting. Since we're going about this, a lot of people (foreigners as well) have said that Singaporeans are more superficial. Thus, you guys are more well dressed in general.

I suppose its also cause Singapore as a whole in general is a city, so there's not much culture differences between areas (or states?) there.

Johor is generally less developed compared to KL and Singapore so I think theres still quite a difference between the people there, you guys, and us from KL.

I'm from KL. So when I go to Singapore, people generally think I'm Singaporean. Its only when I go to very touristy areas or do touristy things that people ask.

As for looks, well, idk myself hahahah. Maybe its cause I dont go to Singapore often enough or my taste in men are more align to Malaysian men due to exposure..?

For whatever reason, even though I do appreciate the fact that you guys are so well groomed, in terms of face alone, I do think Malaysians look better in general

Lol the curry puff hair is a mystery to me as well. But thats generally done by people who have curly hair.

So far I only know 2 people that have this hair but then again, theyre in uni. I think theyre going through the whole "experiment with their hair" phase.

The trend here is also the clean cut gentlemen look actually. Im not sure about Johor but in KL, its all the rage.

I think many Singaporean guys also adopt the curry puff hair.

Few weeks back in Tokyo, I was queuing up for dinner when there was this big group and one guy was tanned with spectacles and sporting his curry puff hair.

The curry puff hair is also popular in Japan, but he was wearing a basic zipped hoodie.

I was thinking to myself, "Look so unique, must be Singaporean."

True enough, when they started speaking, I heard the Singaporean accent.

What are the dating views of Malaysians in Malaysia and Malaysians in other countries?

I'm just going to guess, majority of Singaporeans will want to date someone from/will be staying for good in Singapore.

In general (non-country specific), I don't get why non-local will want to date locals for LTR (specifically) or vice-versa. How does the migration work and what happens when shit happens.

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

After accumulating and sorting through "enough" life experience, you and I choose to endear to or distance from that single individual.  That's all.

I'm Singaporean but have been based in KL for the past 20 years.

I don't see any physical difference between Malaysians and Singaporeans. But I can tell straight away when the person talks. I'm in the retail line and when I hear a Singaporean, I'll use my 'Hey I'm from Singapore too' trick and boom, more often then not, I'll close the deal.

The intonation is slightly different.

I have no idea about Tamil but this holds true for English, Mandarin and Malay across both sides of the causeway.

I was at a Malaysia fair in Tokyo around 1.5 years ago and the stall owners knew I was from Singapore because of my intonation.

Just for example, SK Low has the intonation which I would immediately pick up as Malaysian, because some hairstylists I have met also speak like this. (And I would also ambush them with the question, "Anything trendy in Malaysia recently?")

I would say the difference between accent/intonation of Singapore and Malaysian English is much more subtle and maybe not easy to differentiate if your ears are not sensitive enough.

Even among the sporeans there is still a subtle difference, I can easily pickup the fellow bw mbr (who could be acting or imitating moaning like a porn video or not) that he is not one of my race ie Chinese, ie he is a non-Chinese

my ears are very sharp
I shall not move on to my sense of fashion/clothing in Singapore

Some of my colleagues questioned have I worked in China/HK/Taiwan before, no no! not even visited those ctries when they questioned me at that point
Then why do I speak differently?  neither do I regularly watch dramas/variety shows from Taiwan/China (Scv/starhub etc) or youtube
Not sure why? It is in the genes, and for a sure thing ,I don't like the way Sporean speaks mandarin (I m not a Malaysia hence not qualified to even comment abt them)

I have found that the further north I travel the better looking the Chinese guys are. Taipei better than Shen Zhen than Hong Kong than Malaysia than Singapore. Could be the exotic holiday effect too... Haha... :P

The weather could be a factor.  We all know that the UV ray from the sun can be very damaging to the skin and can cause premature ageing and even skin cancer.

I was at a meetup yesterday and there was a guy from KL.

I didn't know he was Malaysian until the meetup was about to end, but I felt something was 'off' though I tried not to judge.

These were the stuff that kinda felt 'off' to me:

- he wore glasses that were half-rimmed yet very proactive at talking to others

(bad stereotype: some Singapore AJs i met who wore glasses off the current trend tend to be the quiet and/or passive kind)

- his dressing was a little loose; likely wearing one size larger than his actual body size

- when we shook hands, we maintained eye contact but his eyes were the neutral kind

(just a bad stereotype, but a number of Singaporean AJs have 'judging eyes' when shaking hands i.e. 'woo hot bod', 'ugh not my type', 'we met somewhere', 'i know what you did with XX or YY' etc)

Just my few cents' worth of thoughts.

I am S'porean, and in my working history, I find that a lot of the very handsome Chinese male colleagues that I've had are Malaysians.

A lot of them have that very exotic look which I like.  :D

In one of my previous companies, we had two sales managers who were Chinese guys. Both were very tall, very handsome, had nice smiles, good complexion. Later on, I found out that both of them are Malaysians.

I didn't follow the SEA Games, but I must say the two Malaysian swimmers on the left in the picture are really cute!!!  :D

On the other hand, while Joseph Schooling is extremely talented, I have never found him attractive or hot in any way. Same with Quah Zheng Wen.

In fact, looking at either of them will cause my hard on (if I'm having one) to subside.  :D

May be malaysia nearer to thailand. So most of them look handsome like thai guys.

May be they drink underground mineral water and we drink chorinated water from reservoir which comes from rains and drainage.

I dont think its accurate to base looks on such a small sample size. Personally, I think both Malaysians and Singaporeans are equally good looking (judging on the ethnic Chinese ones ).

Malaysian swim team definitely looks way better than our SG water boys...

I tend to agree that Schooling looks is unique not in the handsome way...

Generally speaking, the Malaysian gays I met are more DTE, humble, easy going and adorable.

Sg boys though more well groomed, have better bod but also more aloof and conceited.

BTW I am a Singaporean born in Malaysia.

personally i think

SG guys-more well groomed, more fancy and emphasize on body, perhaps due to the affordability of fitness/gym centre

Msia guys-more raw and natural, wont purposely go all out just to hide thier weaknesses

PRC guys-referring to those middle class exec, actually they are decent too, with good skin complexion..i feel they are attracted me most..;)
