Current Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak made clear in a speech in August 2015 at an international Islamic moderation seminar in Selangor, that he believed Malaysia should not support LGBT rights.

The "People's Anti-Homosexual Voluntary Movement", was created in 1998 to lobby for stricter criminal laws against homosexuality, and is a member of the ruling United Malays National Organisation (UMNO).

Guest Abnormal country

Malaysia’s public acceptance of gays is an interesting and notable outlier and anomaly deviating from the rest of the world.

A higher percentage of older people than younger people there think gays should be accepted, a direct opposite of all other nations i have ever read before!

Young people in malaysia hate gays more than their older people do. Is it any wonder why the whole country on the whole is so fucked up? Their society is fucked up, their people are fucked up, their government is fucked up, their rules are fucked up, their whole system is fucked up!

Yeah; but their so straight Malay police officers get their dicks sucked by guys before driving home to their wives... All very conclusive...

As the villagers haven't heard about 1MDB probably they never heard about homosexuality either. Resulting in biaised survey results...

Plus all societies facing internal problem tend to bring up pseudo issues (like attacking gays) to distract from the real problems...

You’re clearly

1) are prejudiced

2) hate Malaysia

3) have not done proper research

Because countries like Russia and Middle Eastern regions make Malaysian’s treatment of gay people look like a friendly hello.

Bring your divisive, propaganda bullshit elsewhere. Doesn’t take a teenager to figure out your game.

If you look at a figures most countries with a certain majority religion have low acceptance of gays.

Just interesting that they mostly start off with their first sexual experiences with other guys. LOL

This was the Research. For the one asking about Russia and middle east .see yourself...

Yes malaysians, indonesians and paskitanis are among the worst with rural african states, even russia and major parts of the middle east fared better.

And there are TOO MANY malaysians, indonesians and pakistanis in both malaysia and singapore, not to mention middle eastern people too.

Shitty part of the world. Western Europe is not getting any better with the influx of immigrants from eastern europe, the middle east and africa too.

That doesn’t mean they are operating less on an underground basis. They are not respected nor do they have any rights or equal status in society.

Probably too many were unresponsive to the contentious and controversial nature of questions in their heavily mind-censored country. They probably found it intrusive being edged for a stance on it.

I assume the result for Singapore would be same as the one for South Africa. We don't need it, because we can imagine the figures for Singapore.

Surely, Singapore as the most ranking addicted country didn't want to be the no 1 on this one...

Because singapore’s brand of fallacious dynastic democracy is not globally recognised, kinda like the invisibilised status of Taiwan and North korea. We are not Great Britain, who kind of invented modern democracy and have both the Monarchy and the House of Commons residing in Westminster.

Malaysia had saunas discos and bars well before Singapore, while Singapore was still entrapping with policemen showing hard ons in toilets.  Malaysia has not changed much but a few short years of questionable progress in Singapore makes for a holier than thou attitude?

Malaysian university's gay conversion contest sparks anger

KUALA LUMPUR: A contest at a leading Malaysian university seeking ideas to "convert" gay students sparked anger on Wednesday (Apr 4), with activists warning it could drive people in the Muslim-majority country to suicide.

It was the latest example of what rights groups say is growing intolerance towards Malaysia's gay community as religious fundamentalism increases, eroding the multi-ethnic country's traditionally moderate Islam.

The contest organised by the Muslim Students Association at publicly-owned Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) called for participants to create videos and posters as part of a campaign called "Back to Nature".

Amirah Sulaiman, a 22-year-old association member, told AFP the programme was a "soft approach" to return members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community to the "natural path".

"We will work hard to convert them," she said. "LGBT is like smoking - it is bad for health."

"We want to be close to LGBT people and influence them via Islam," she added.

The winning entries of last month's contest were a video that featured drawings of a member of the LGBT community who started to change after meeting a pious friend, and a colourful poster urging gay people to "return to the path of Allah".

Homosexuality is taboo in Malaysia and the country retains its colonial-era criminal ban on sodomy, with punishments of up to 20 years in prison, caning or a fine.

Thilaga Sulathireh, founder of transgender rights group Justice for Sisters, said the university contest could cause much damage.

"It can cause harm, such as anxiety, depression and suicide attempts," she said.

"There must be more programmes with facts to educate people about (the LGBT community)."

In February a stereotype-laden checklist for spotting gay men and lesbian women published by a popular Malaysian newspaper sparked outrage.

The Malay-language tabloid Sinar Harian claimed gay men love to go to the gym - just to check out other men - wear tight clothes to show off their physiques and tend to sport beards, while lesbians "hate men" and enjoy hugging.

Last June Malaysian health authorities were forced to backpedal on plans for a contest to "prevent" homosexuality.

All Muslim countries are like that... What's new

That's why many gays have suicide thoughts even in non hostile countries where almost everyone will look at Gays with their blaming eyes as though you have aids and hiv

Real idiots are the ones who don’t know which countries belong to the middle east and think geographic demarcation is objectively cast in stone.
