The theremin is an invention nearly one hundred years old. It uses a simple principle of electronic resonant circuits, the pitch increases with the proximity of the hand to the vertical antenna, like pitch increases with the proximity of a finger to the bridge in a violin. And like in the violin, one can make a "vibrato". It is said that it is one of the most difficult "instruments" to make ACCEPTABLE music with. It takes a long time to learn. Forgive my negativity, but I think that any effort to learn to handle this gadget is mostly wasted time. Listen to your videos and imagine that there is not a piano accompanying the theremin. The result would not be pleasing. Schubert's Ave Maria would be reduced to some weird howling If you want to play an instrument that intimately responds to your body, play the violin (or other string instruments) If you want to make enjoyable music with not too much effort, play the piano (or any cheaper keyboard). Guest Lyra
This instrument is incredibly difficult to play well... but when it happens, it's one of the most expressive instruments. For me, the occasional unstable pitching adds to its strange and haunting beauty. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PjnaciNT-wQ" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> The Musical Saw also produces some haunting sounds

To sing well takes time and effort, but these are not "incredible". Listen to this instrument "Margaret Price", making the music "Dove sono" composed by Mozart: And here is another example of instrument "Margaret Price". No money could pay for this instrument. Dame Price was one of the most extraordinary singers of the XX century. Edited December 24, 2019 by Steve5380
