White girl speaks fluent Mandarin

Is it any surprise?  Chinese language is getting popular as China is over taking America as the world's no. 1 economy.

America is in gradual decline with deep division within,  rising  poverty and homelessness. The country is infested with zombie drug addicts and criminal gangs roaming freely on the streets with mass shootings occurring normally daily.

What a messed up country ! Countries should accelerate de-dollarisation of the greenback so the world could be free from the shackles of this warmongering country and let the country bury itself in its own mountain of debts so that it can self destruct by its own people.

It is understandable that the above can be your best wish.   But it is not realistic.  My friend,  you have been brain-washed!

I never liked the excesses of America and its problems. I am ethnic Chinese and love Chinese thought and culture and can understand why their sociopolitical landscape is the way it is.

As a descendent of forefathers from China, I hope it develops and prosper, but I am not a fan of its politics.

America, for all its problems, has much to offer. I don't think there is a need to mock America, and especially immature for China supporters to do so. It only puts China in a worse light.

Haha, who's brainwashed remains to be seen, time will tell. Right now I'm  enjoying the gradual decay of USA. Oh, Americans, be prepared !  Another mass shooting is lurking around. Gosh, i feel so wonderful safe here.

You should not enjoy the gradual decay of anyone.

here?  where is your here?  Are you living in China?   I feel sorry for so many young Chinese who are well educated but cannot find decent jobs, plus the many others who are losing their jobs because manufacturing is diminishing in their country.  Also the financial problems China is facing may affect those less able to cope.

There's no one size fits all government  as long as it works for the country and majority of its people. Look at how America tried to intervene Afghanistan's politics and the outcome. China  progress to common prosperity is admirably though it has its sets of problems.

The only difference between China and USA is the former never imposes its political philosophy on countries whereas the latter keeps on bullying countries to embrace its form of democracy in the guise of it's self national interests, overthrowing governments it doesn't like.

That said, even if we were to consider to buy in America's form of democracy, look at the badly run country and it's messed up state.  HELL NO !! We should drop the idea like hot potato.

Here as in Singapore. Nope, I'm not from China. Yup, me too. I feel sorry for about the state of the country too but think it will pull through unlike your home country which is going further political turmoil and division with the upcoming presidential elections and potential conviction of Trump. Meanwhile,  gun shootings, drug addiction epidemic and homelessness continue.

Much to offer ?? As in more wars and civilians war casualties  ? You serious ?? This is not really about Pro China or otherwise.  A country that is badly run and does not know to solve its own problems but keeps on barking on countries to subscribe it's form of governing deserves to be mocked and humiliated.

Glad that you are pro-Singapore.

Not sure what you meant. If you are suggesting that we are enjoying current peace time due to USA, that's presumptuous and you gave USA too much credit.

If you are talking about peace time in Sg, that's because our government here play their cards well not to offend USA.

I'm also saying US contributed a lot to humanity's progress, credit where credit is due.

Equally,  to also give acknowledgement for the war atrocities committed by America and millions of innocent civilian lives killed in its waged or instigated wars.

So are you.  Everyone is being brain-washed by news.   It is best not to follow any news at all, especially political news because politicians are ALL liars.

I am not in disagreement with what you wrote.

I even think that I pay too much attention to the politics of my country, because I have no power to change anything, except through my minuscule vote.  I should stop reading and thinking about politics.  But then there is some feeling of responsibility for the state of society, and the experience is part of life.  It is like we are the spectators in a big theater hall where an important drama is being played, and...  we fall asleep!

My point is why sleep in a big theater, among a bunch of mob (Sheep?), when you can choose to sleep in your own bed for as long as you pleased.

Well... there is a difference.  The sleep in the theater and at home can only bring up dreams,  while being attentive in the theater is an experience of sad reality!

White people can learn Mandarin perfectly well, this is nothing to wonder about.  But it is doubtful that Asian languages will take over from Western languages and displace English (and French in  diplomacy)  as the Lingua Franca.  Asian languages, especially of ancient origin, are much more difficult to learn.  And... what is the need?  All over Asia children are starting to learn English,  and a Singaporean gay forum already adopted this language.

An America fighter jet was piloted by two pilots, one Chinese and one American. The American pilot died unexpectedly of a stroke, while the Chinese pilot managed to land the jet safely.  In the event that the Chinese pilot had a stroke and the American pilot flies a Chinese jet, I will be the first to jump out with a parachute. Each Chinese character is a work of art that can be framed for inspiration and deep thought.  I am proud of something people find it not so simple to learn.

The Chinese parachute probably has its instructions written in Mandarin, so you will be safe jumping out.  Have you read about this recent phenomenon:  China recruiting Western fight pilots to help educate and train their own?  ( more than "recruiting",  they are BUYING them with lots of money)

Smart smooth. The chinese trainees don't need a translator and they learn fast.   I have nothing more to add.

Just a general observation…

There’s usually a large reaction when a white person speaks fluent mandarin, not very little reaction when an non-white speak fluent english with either an regional american or british accent. 🤔

Just expressing my two senses worth

this depends. if you are at an area where there is no or little non-white people (small villages or very homogenized countries, they will be surprised.

Usually the girl 'marries into the family' so she has to speak the language of her in-laws. Many ang moh girls who marry Asians (from Asia) will learn to speak the language of their other halves.

Because mainland Chinese or Chinese speaking people always pretend as if the Chinese language is overly difficult.

If you look at Mandarin from a linguistic angle, Mandarin doesn't stand out as a very sophisticated language.

Ni hao ma?

You good ?

Mainland Chinese wasn't very required in the past 200 years, why would Westerners learn Mandarin?
