Guest Siao!
I have a straight friend who is an odd job worker. Every year he looked forward to IPPT and will try his best to score Gold or at least Silver points to get $400 or $200 respectively. He said as compared to earning few hundred bucks doing odd job which requires physical strength under hot sun, IPPT is an easy money for him and even joked about why MINDEF doesn't implement it once a month. fatguy
what will happen?nothing much...you only have to go down in your uniform, meet a DO (disciplinary officer), then explain why u did not go, sometimes can escape the $50 fine...some good reasons are family or work related. it's juz a formality.they'll most prob do a few defaulters at a time, please note that you HAVE to be in full uniform, with proper hair cut and color, one time the DO ask this punk with golden hair to go and get it "fix" before coming back. they you'll be escorted one by one to see the DO.then later in front of your NSAS go book a new slot.at the end of the day, try not too miss your IPPT. check me out and my interest... =)

Guest Centrino
You should have a good reason to give when you report to the DO to face your charges. Do not, under any circumstances look like you couldn't care less. The mood of the DO can determine if you are let off with a verbal warning or a fine, or if this is not your first time, potentially DB. The number of defaulters are on the rise, and it's a matter of time before SAF decides to find a guinea pig to throw into DB to serve as a warning to everyone else... don't be that guinea pig...So, just do it, and get it over and done with. No point getting into trouble over SAF matters. Edited August 24, 2010 by Centrino
Guest copa
Hello, I was the co's pa during my nsf days a few years ago, and i have seen many many NSmen got charged for repeatedly skipping and defaulting their ippt/rt. Some get warning, some get fined $50, depending on how good you spin your tale. For some who default repeatedly despite many warnings, they do get sent to db immediately, all you get is a phonecall home to tell your loved ones you are going to db, and will be out when and when. It's quite sad to see them getting handcuffed and escorted to the van waiting to send them to db. I don't think anyone would want that to happen to them, do they?

At least that's not what happened to me. I'm a first time offender about 6 to 7 years ago. I was smack with a $150 fine even I explained that they must have send the mail to my previous address. In those days, my unit are not so well informed on change of address. There's no point arguing any further as there are no way to prove it and no sense talking to those stone heads. Just pay the fine and go.

Guest Guest
Depends on your unit and DO. There was once a nasty DO, 80% of his cases go DB. Usually between 7 to 14 days. And do not think there is no record. Your DB record stays with you for life.

briax
I had once few years back... was given a verbal warning. The rest who are there was fined.I think we are interested in the topic and did not realised that the original post was done in 2009. The person who started this thread never read it anymore. Lol. Of course, he must have paid his fine and passed his ippt by now.To stock4fun, you really should start new thread since you are asking something completely unrelated, instead of digging this out from its grave. Guest rah
If you dun wan to kana defaulter for ur IPPT. Then try to down grade lor. Ur reservist units will have the chance to change to new No4. And they will charge u on a discount rate of $30 for 3 set ( No4 and Slack). if you wan to buy one set from emart, it will cost more than $30 per set. Guest Ex admin staff
Indeed this is an interesting thread after so long, there are still pple replying. lol...Anyway, is also good to reply here for the benefit of others who wants to know just in case. lol...Not too sure if the standard guildline for fine, verbal warning or DB is publish in ns.sg. Just go over and take a look. You guys will know. Do take note that the punishment is depending on your rank too which will also determine your officers is JDO/SDO. If you are lucky, your JDO/SDO may give you chance but the punishment will not be lesser then previous if you have been charged for the same offense. As for the record issue. Perhaps some of you may or may not know this. Be it whether the outcome or punishment is a verbal warning, fine, or DB, all this will be documented down in your conduct sheet with the punishment. There is no way to charge a person with out putting all the charges into the conduct sheet. So to prevent the above, just login to your ns.sg portal with your singpass, go do a booking and take your ippt test. If you failed, do not wish to suffer the RT, then volunteer for the IPT which is shorter than RT. Siong but after IPT, if you still failed, you will be excuse from RT the following year. In fact alot of NS men are taking up IPT. Remember, ignorance is not longer a valid reason in MINDEF. Likewise if you claims that you moved, and did not received and letter, is also not a valid reason anymore unless you have records to show that you have change your address within 7 days of shifting, and ns.sg is showing the new address but yet you still did not receive any letter (which is highly unlikely). Hope this clear the doubts. uniform_guy

Anyone knows if by the time the qualifying window closes but one has still yet to clear the FFI due to further medical investigations required, will the NS Men get charged for "IPPT Defaulter"?Don't think so bah. Medical issue is not your fault. Furthermore MO did not clear your FFI, how to take IPPT.
Guest ipptffi
yea.. the unit only called for FFI review about 5mths after the window opened... and the check found abnormalities in heart ECG and was further referred to National Heart Centre for further investigations. After the session at NHC, the specialist requested for additional tests to be conducted and by the time the tests can be conducted, the IPPT window would have closed. As the FFI is not cleared yet in the whole window period and there's no way to even book and attempt the IPPT during this whole period due to the FFI...anyone had any similar experience to the above scenario? Guest Guest
i used to hate IPPT & would try to find ways to 'siam'- MC, not feeling well, excuses, etc(Dare not default bcoz I(NSF) used to type charge report for IPPT defaulters & escorting them to my CO room to be charged so pathetic & yet funny. Mostly scolding & fined. But for 1 or 2 regular ones, kenna locked up lor).Failed then go RT which i hated - the smelly #-tag, being treated like dogs(do this, do that), going home in public trpt in smelly t-shirt, etc. That was 15yrs ago. Now, i m fit & exercise regular & not to mentioned I pocketed S$600 from IPPT monetary award scheme before I ROD from reservist. In a strange way, i do miss reservist(esp the friends, the fun, etc)Instead of defaulting IPPT, why dun u give yourself (if u r medically fit) to be fit again? Guest ipptffi
hi, thanks for the sharing... its not the case of intentional wanting to default IPPT and get oneself into being charged... who wants to?!?... for this scenario, even if one wants to book and attempt the IPPT before the window closes, one can't because of the FFI clearance issue which is requiring further medical investigation. topLTR_93
IPPT is such a waste of time.Coming from a pre-enlistee. Some people have said that "IPPT and RT are good for your aging heart blahblahblah"Well, if you noticed, we have been doing NAPFA/IPPT since Primary 4. And NSmen are still dropping deadAnd MINDEF doesn't want to abolish this stupid system. Sianz.

Guest Gas
i think the mindset towards ippt/rt is very important. if this is something which cannot b changed, why not turn this supposedly shitty event into something positive?i used to be very afraid of ippt cos i am very unfit. i know once i fail i will have to attend RT which i see it as a complete waste of time.i think most pple try to 'siam' ippt or hated it is because they know they have difficulty in passing. of cos there're some pple who really have big business out there and they dont have time to train for it. but frankly, u dont need to spend alot of time to train for ippt. u dont need one hour to run 2.4km and u have 9 months to train for it.its all abt being discipline and good/clever time management. if one doesnt have both, i highly doubt he is able to do some big business out there in the first place.
