Bittorrent Clients/p2p

My Bitcomet program isn't able to download files since yesterday afternoon. I am assuming that this is due to the cable problems caused by that earthquake near Taiwan.

Anyone else having similar difficulties? Or for some it is business as usual?

Appreciate any feedback.

Tks guys.

Same here.

Definitely due to the damage to the undersea cables. Wait a few days to try again.

Thank you "Guest" for confirming my suspicions. I was worried that it might be the Bitcomet client which is the problem which would mean that I would have to change clients.

Muchos Gracias!

Everything seemed to be back to normal now, or rather regarding the stuffs I am downloading using bit torrents.

Having said that I tried to get to Wikipedia to get a better understanding of the word "Icarus" and I could not get through to Wiki!! Looks like not everything is back to normal.

So buddy, why don't you share with us why you use Icarus as your guest-id?

Do you always disobey your father and get into situations that posed a grave danger to yourself? :o Just kidding lah.

Anyway, interesting id.

Yes, things are now back to normal. Thank goodness!

Icarus is a figure from Greek mythology who flew too close to the sun with artificial wings with fatal consequences. The wax holding his wings together melted and he fell to his death. It is a moral lesson in the dangers of hubris. He who dares to fly too close to the realms of the Gods will suffer for it.

One must be constantly reminded to be humble and not be too proud believing in his own superiority less one is tempted to boast to others "to get out of my uncaring elitist face"... :-)

Thanks for the update dear Guest.

Humbly,

Icarus

Bittorrent is basically a peer-assisted content delivery platform [peer-to-peer] that enables users to publish and download movies, music, games, files, etc.

The easiest way to use is to install a client [eg Bitcomet, utorrent, Azureus etc]. Once installed, you only need to find your desired torrent in torrent sites [widely available over the net] and click them for download. If you are using a direct connection [no router], you can stick to the default configuration of the client. In the case of the presence of router, some configuration needs to be tweaked to achieve a better speed.

However, it is also good if you are to tweak your XP TCP/IP and increase the connection. By default, XP with ServicePack2 limits this connection to 10. Not increasing the connection may give you your internet surfing connection problems [i.e. time-out].

All torrent clients are compatible to any OS.

hehe, but do note that downloading of movies and musics is an illegal activity here in Sg.

Regards.

Hmmmm since it is illegal why are pple still so daring.....heard from my fren that his fren's internet service was suspended due to him using p2p software...and it happen not too long ago....i had not use my bitcomet for quite some time liao.....anyone care to comment on their experience? Understood from my fren that it not illegal if u download something which does not infringe copyrights but it is already an offence to use in the 1st place without paying.....so does paying to bittorrent meant we are legally downloading things? <_<

Hi Steman,

Perhaps, I didnt make myself clear.

Using and installing torrent client is legal - it is the content that you download that will determine the infringement rights. There are paid sites, particularly for songs, and this constitute to be fine. However, once you use them not for personal use, you are said to have crossed the line. [err, sounds confusing and silly, rite? :P ]

Yes, there were news of singaporeans caught from such an activity. The latest was the home raids few months ago. Though the news were not widely clarified but I do feel that these offenders were downloading not from torrent but another p2p filesharing program [eg limewire].

Cheers :)
