Guest Curious
Friend of mine in his early 20's told me he is thinking of ordaining as a Buddhist monk. He said that means you vow to live a life of celibacy and the only way you're allowed to get relief is through wet dreams. You're not even allowed to wank. But while that's the theory, I suspect in practice it's very different and that all kinds of things go on ... Has anyone any experience of/insights into monastic sexual life? samsara
http://www.gaybuddhi...a_monk_sex.htmlOk I was also equally intrigued about the monks' sexual lives. After reading the story above, I now more or less understand their perceptions towards masturbation and sex. While the others and I have been fantasizing about having a fling with them, I would also like to remind ourselves that they are there to attain Enlightenment and they lead the most of their lives away from the wonders and excitement of the materialistic world. So, we need to empathize with them. In short, let's show them our respect for taking a celibacy vow and taking the solitary path. The same applies to nuns.Meanwhile, you should also watch the fictional film "Samsara" by Pan Nalin. It talks about the struggles of a monk as he decided to renounce his monk status for the worldly desires such as earning money, starting a family, before he ultimately decided to return to monkhood. ravannus 1 안녕하세요. charvo87
im a buddhist myself. Yes. Monks precepts forbid them to have sex, and masturbation. Coz this is a hindrance of them attaining enligtenment. They need to maintain that awareness and mindfulness of the mind so that they can see clearly of all phenomena. (getting chim liao so i stop here.)but, however, having sexual intercourse is one of the four serious precepts that once violated, u automactically are no more in the monkhood, and expelled from the sangha. But however, having masturbation is of the lesser precepts of sanghadisesa, just a little lenient then the previous. But there is a punishment of , if i din get the it wrong, that u will not live tgt with the other monks, u will not communicate with them, havin activities tgt, and u will do things all alone to reflects, and for the very traditional way that dates back to buddha time, monks when going for alms round, u will be behind the queue and isolate urself from the group. So when ppl are making offering they know that the monk have done smth wrong, but as a respect they will still offer food to him. Take note that the monks lining are the elders in front and the youngest behind. The senioruty is not of age but the age in monkhood. So if a 25 yo monk who has his higher ordination for 5 years, and a 35 yo monk who has his higher ordination for 2 years, the 35 yo will q behind the 25yo monk and sit also to this seniority. Guest Please. Respect needed.
I find many of the responses in this thread v distasteful and disrespectful to Buddhism. Just because there are few who expressed their discomfort, it does not mean it should be taken as acceptable and left as it is.If this is in the context of some other religion, it would have created quite a bit of stir and protest. This is a free forum and freedom comes with responsibilities of respect. Can the moderators do something about it please.
