In today's paper minister for trade Teo Ser Luck said the govt will unveil measures to help SMEs in various assistance schemes. However, just about a month ago, the govt actually INCREASED fees for application for work permit, S pass etc by about 300%!!

On one hand the govt said help you and on the other hand kill you.

So next time when ministers and MPs have their walkabout, tell them you will vote for them, but on polling day vote for opposition ....hahahahaha. Must teach them a lesson.

fees for all these work permits, levy ,, s passed t&c should be scrapped. These fees are a huge burden to SMEs. We had asked the government to increase quota a increase the foreign worker quota, to reduce or eliminate all the foreign worker levy but they refuse to follow our instructions. I cannot believe how arrogrant they are as we are tax payers. We should be allowed to hire who we want without interference.

That is because they want the SMEs to start hiring LOCALS after taking in the various schemes!

how much tax do you pay? Pay more than you, much more so its only logical the government must listen and follow our instructions to them more than the man in the streets. What I felt is the government is not inclusive enough, not listening to stake holders and businesses, all they do is increase cost for us, tighten rules, make new regulations. A good government should let us run our business without any interference, make cost as low as possible and make it tax free. I hope the opposition MPs who will gain more seats in parliament will speak up for us n speak up for us and be pro businesses. Fight for us to increase quota, eliminate levies and taxes and remove outdated regulations.

Teo Ser Luck again. I confirm many blocks of residents under him does not like him. He will sure pengsang in Year 2016.

All SMEs do not get direct help. I knew people set-up tuition centres, stationery shop, design office and etc, Gov't did not help at all.

Gov't make it so tough and hard for them to survive. .

U are not a local born citizen. U must be a new citizen or a PR. Local born citizens will know what is called social responsibility towards their own fellow citizens. If u are so particular about costs, u should relocate your entire business to India/Indonesia/pakistan/africa. China & vietnam should be ruled out for u. Singapore is already very liberal with foreigners intake. No country on earth will allow u to "hire who u want without interference".

Pay taxes so what. We have equally powerful weapon when we receive our white cards in 2016. Let's see whether your taxes have more power or our votes have more power.

Lastly, i wish for your business to incur hefty losses & eventually collapse in 2013.

Let's all pray for doom and gloom for his business.

All locals will know that the ruling party is overly pro-foreigner & pro-business and opposition are the ones who will fight for the aggrieved ordinary people on streets. If u want to increase quota, u should support ruling party. Wanting opposition to increase quota for u is fat hope.

That clearly illustrates your lack of knowledge of the local scene. It's either u are a PR or new citizen or u are goondoo singaporean. Either way, it does not augur well for your business because every successful businessman needs to understand his business environment well.

Good good good! By supporting opposition, u are actually helping us. We singaporeans detest policies that favours foreigners, that's why we vote for opposition. U are clearly on the wrong side, goondoo, but never mind, we welcome u to our side with open arms!!

I feel for your plight but personal sacrifice need to be made sometimes.Nation above Self interests. There is a saying- Without a country there won't be a home. (先有国后有家) Without sacrifice n merely looking for short term relief nothing essentially change.Infants and teens of this period in time will still suffer just like us in the future. We should build up correct values and reverse the moral decay in singapore. We need to put aside our petty grievances/differences and raise above the occassion.Because the Times call for it.

What is the nation outlook/feelings on the ruling party regarding their ability in problem solving/crisis management? A 6.9m population is not a joke, ppl need to be feed and clothed. It's not like putting barbie dolls in barbie mansion. Have enough thoughts/planing been put into things like water/food import, energy consumption, waste disposal/facilities issues etc? And what abouts things that are beyond singapore to control such as global Financial crisis/epidemic? Are we really ready to embrace population expansion at this moment in time?

SINGAPORE - With a current Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of 1.3, Singaporeans are not replacing ourselves.

This number is far from the Government's long term goal for Singapore to have a TFR of 2.1.

But according to renowned population expert Professor Wolfgang Lutz, our baby woes may be due to our outdated methods of looking at our population figures. 2.1 is a relatively artificial construct of a demographic model only if you have no changes in the life expectancy and you have no migration, and this sort of stabilises the population in view of centuries," he said.

"But in the near term future, of course we have an irregular age distribution, we do have changes in mortality because life expectancy improves, and we do have massive migration. So that requires different considerations.

"In addition, we've also shown that if education is factored in - and we consider the Singaporean population very well educated - this means a lot of investments early in life and it is expensive per child."

He elaborated that however, the benefits come in later in life in terms of higher productivity. "So once you factor this in, then actually a fertility of around 1.7 may be the best," said the professor.

"Because then you have somewhat fewer children, but you can invest more per child and this will more than compensate (for) the smaller size of this core," he said.

The founding director of the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital was speaking to around 50 students and academics at a seminar titled "Is fertility in Singapore too low: Individual decisions in a global context.

We all know that TFR issue is just a bogeyman pap put out. The real aim of population growth policy is to ensure their own political survival. They are also using population white paper to torment/stress us daily, to break our will n spirit hoping we would just pack up and leave. Who are the main beneficiary in this battle of pull n tug?

As he said, even minimum is 1.7 far from 1.01-1.3 that Singapore is having now. This year it stands at 1.1 while Chinese TFR is 1.01.

In fact TFR should INCREASE if people are getting older, it means that there will be more old people to take care off, more medical subsidies, more housing subsidies, more eldercare subsidies. Whether they die at 70 or 150, after a certain age you are not economically productive anymore (unless your health is still tip top and you choose to contribute)

Another opposition tactic

Pls do good thing to the community. Ask SDP to voice out for the gay rights.

Vincent Wijeysingha and M ravi had done something about it. I saw the video before a few weeks ago. If i can find the link, i will post it for u later.

They may not have accomplished much, but nevertheless, we should appreciate their efforts.

I do notice that the type of supporters PAP gets nowadays have some major personality issues, not just here on BW but on almost every online forum. Since it cannot possibly have only one same supporter on all those forum, I guess that will imply PAP is attracting only the support from hooligans now.

"opposition supporters that are the hooligans here.. always shouting and spewing vulgarities, harassing others"???

You mean yourself? But since when have you ever been any kind of opposition supporter? LOL! It is funny to see all those PAP cronies always denying that.

And don't mistake that there is just ONE guest "harassing" you on several thread. We can easily see that there are just tons of people with an axe to grind with you. For so many to dislike and despise you over the CNY period, it really doesn't bode well for you at all.

To the org of that event, did you guys employ cleaning services to clean up hong lim park after the event? If yes, did you make sure these cleaners are Singaporeans and not foreigners? If no, who you guys expect to clear up any rubbish left behind?

Congrats, you've just proven to everyone that not only don't you know the crux of the issue, but that you haven't bothered to even find out.

I applaud you for being so lazy.

really, tell that to the "guest " who want to apartheid certain people in singapore, or is that you? Lol.

Definition of apartheid: practices of racial segregation and discrimination.

Is this about our races now? Or is this about our nationality? Do you see Singaporeans going out in crowds like that sleeping along the pavements, eating at void decks? Don't throw racism into this. It was never about racism. Any Singaporeans would be offended by that kind of sight, may they be Chinese, Malay, Indians or any other races.

But of course, Bitches are a different type of animal all together and we do discriminate against bitches.
