When I say "downward spiral", I am looking at the big picture, not just policy wise but also on the social aspects. The policies that have been implemented have been blamed for job contention between locals and foreigners, overcrowding, housing prices rocketing upwards, etc. This is causing native Singaporeans to be extremely angry and tension levels to rise, and it is forcing our young to rethink whether they really want to be in Singapore. Most of the younger generation who are capable of emigrating will likely do so, thus reducing the native population size. And then once again they will say oh, we don't have enough people. Or oh, our people are not making enough babies. Or they are making enough babies but the babies go away when they grow up. To fix that, we will need more foreigners. And the cycle repeats itself again.

 

Do I think there is room for improvement? Most definitely. But I still think that we are on a downward spiral unless some major changes get brought in to break the whole cycle.

I wonder if you can help me out on one thing. Many years ago (definitely more than 4 years), I distinctly remember LKY said something which made me furious when I first heard it. I cannot remember the exact words, and neither can I remember the context where he said it. I wonder if you can find it out.

base on my observation, lackeys will usually deny they are pap supporters, because generally the impression people have of lackeys is that they are por lumpar, sar soke, sar kar etc. So they will usually tell people they are not pap supporters, especially nowadays when pap lost a lot of support. But from your observation, u will know whether they are pap supporter or not. There is no need to get them to admit or deny to confirm your observation, unless u have poor observation skills.

I have a friend without a degree but drives a taxi, but earn more than a degree holder.. u must also know how to plan route strategies to maximize your income. For instance one particular area is his money making machine in the morning ( I won't say where), so he have an arrangement with a neighbour to send him there, after which he start his money making rounds, and goes home for a nap. He usually work only 8 hours or less, and don't even bother having a relief driver at night.

Those that complain they cant earn much money is because they are at the coffeeshop drinking and expect to have customers, or at the airport queuing for 4 hours.. these are really dumb taxi drivers

A foreigner who hit a STOMPer's car tries to flee before throwing away a beer bottle he had with him after being chased down.

The man also refused to cooperate with a female traffic police officer, who had to coax him into taking a breathalyser test for more than 20 times.

The STOMPer said the man, a Caucasian, was drunk as he failed the breathalyser test given by another male traffic police officer who arrived at the scene later on.

Said the STOMPer:

"I am writing this to share with netizens about my recent encounter with a drink driver.

"It was 11am on Friday (Feb 22) when my car was hit from the back by a drink driver. One would not expect to find a drink driver at such an odd hour but yes, he was one."

The STOMPer said he found out the man was a foreigner from his conversation with the traffic police woman.

The STOMPer added:

"After hitting my car, he sped away. Recovering from my shock quickly, I chased him. I managed to drive alongside his car and gestured for him to stop.

"Instead, he showed me his middle finger. Suddenly, he made a left turn into Valley road, and went against the flow of traffic.

"Luckily, there was no pedestrians crossing the road or any oncoming cars. As it was a two-way lane, I turned left and tried to block his path with my car.

"He, however, managed to inch his vehicle forward and quickly got out to throw away a San Miguel beer bottle. As I was approaching him, he shouted "F*** you Singaporean man" He then pushed my shoulder and uttered the four-letter word another time.

"I was so tempted to beat the daylight out of him but controlled my emotions. By then, a few workers from a nearby shop were gathering to watch the entire saga.

"One PRC worker told me he too saw him throw a bottle into the dustbin. Shortly after, a woman traffic police officer arrived and I have to say that I was very displeased with the way she handled the situation.

"She tried to coax him to blow into the breathalyser tester for more than 20 times but each time, he just gave a puff.

"I then called the traffic police operations room to voice my concern about the situation. In less than 10 minutes, a male traffic police officer arrived, followed by a Volvo Highway patrol and a police car.

"The man was then brought to the back of the Highway patrol car and made to put both hands at the boot. He was then ordered to give a long hard blow and he failed the test.

"He was subsequently arrested without any handcuffs. They put him at the back of the Highway patrol and told me he will be taken to police station."

My name is Vince and I'm the said driver of the car that was hit by this jerk. He's a Canadian as I overheard him telling the female TP rider. I want to thank all of you for your replies & support in what I did as a Singaporean.

To clarify one reply that I should not have confronted a drunken driver. Well, after hitting my car, he sped off. My natural reaction was to pursue his car. Instead, he showed a middle finger. As to him driving against the flow of traffic on Valley road, I don't think I have in any way contributed to that. If so, this is as good as saying that, if he was being pursued by cops and he crashed into the pavement and killed someone, can the cops be blamed for pursuing him?

All these while, I did'nt know he was drink driving till he got out of the car & throw away the beer bottle.

While I admire your genuine intention to make such information known, I don't think BW is the appropriate place to do it.

It is one thing for us to discuss about politics and national issues, but it is a totally different thing to publish information (no matter how true it may be) that can potentially be alleged by some people as being defamatory - in which case it potentially opens the moderators up to all sorts of legal issues.You can probably try to see if an alternative platform like TREmeritus or The Real Singapore would be willing to publish it.

Yesterday I heard the news and was horrified to learnt the the govt is actually increasing the levy for unskill workers. This means to me that most of the job such as waiter, cleaners, construction workers etc that Singaporean shun are now more tough for the employers to hire staffs. The high levy will invariably gets translated into higher menu or service cost to we consumers. I can't help but thinking that the policy is actually contributing towards higher inflation.

Then they get in all the S pass n employment pass to compete for job with Singaporean. Not mentioning that every year they allow some 25K people to become citizens. No wonder even graduate find it difficult to get a decent jobs nowadays.

This is not bullying. This is a fact. I seldom find a local born common ordinary citizen who support pap because they really support their policies. Most of their supporters support them because of certain reasons. U just look at RC u will know. They volunteer not for altruistic reasons, but to get their children into some schools. Or maybe to get noticed so that they will be invited to tea party. This is not considered lackey?
