The answer is simple: because they are. Some discover it now, some later. Whenever your epiphany - if there is one - comes, you'll know. When it does, it gets scary, but that's all part and parcel of coming out. 

 

Also, just like scientists are never 100% about everything, there is no 100% answer. You just find your way in the world with this. Maybe you'll do well, maybe not as well as you'd hope. Whatever the case is, you try to make it work for you. That's all that can be done.
