Anyone here who have been there? Tell me your experience. Although homosexuality is legal in Albania but Balkans region show that a vast majority of locals are not comfortable with homosexuality. There is also a strong anti-gay sentiment among the population. If you speak to local gay men on dating apps, you may notice their tendencies to be skittish or very private. They act this way to avoid being identified and protect themselves. The truth is that gay life in Albania is not easy. You should respect their need for privacy. Central Tirana is the best place to stay in my opinion. The city center is vibrant, filled with cafes, shopping and parks. The streets are walkable and it’s easy to get into and out of the city center. You will not find any gay bars in Tirana, or even large congregations of gay men at bars. If some gay friends do meet up, you may not be able to tell since they are so discreet with their sexuality. Nonetheless, Bunker 1944 is an underground bar that claims to treat all individuals equally and fairly! Try it out for yourself. Quote
