Yankit
In current times when the rental market is suppressed, renting might be cheaper than owning a leasehold house (depreciate the total price of the house with the remaining lease, that would give you the per annum amount you're expensing for the place). Guest renting
In Singapore, the rentals are very high. Single owners who sublet their rooms to another 5 people can collect at least $2500 per month. He does not even need a full time job! Just collecting rent is more than sufficient for his monthly expenses.
Guest Guest
Why pay for someone else's loan when you can use the rental money to finance your own home?

Ultimately, we are renting from HDB isn't it the truth? Firday
Guest Walter54
Is there a rent to own place in Singapore?
Guest Derelict
You will face a few problems: (1) rent must come from cash, lease ("buy" from HDB) can come from CPF and/or cash. (2) as you grow older, lessees (HDB) or owners (private property) may not want to rent to you - scare you sick lah, old lah, die lah in their place. (3) you may be (actually very likely) staying with other tenants so may not have privacy. (4) facility not likely to be maintained or upkeep. Sian .... Rent or lease both not that good😭
Neh Neh
With rising living cost in Sg, rental cost will likely go higher than home loan cost soon.

Guest guest
If you buy a brand new 2 room bto flat, think it is cheaper than renting.
Guest Guest
If one is renting, the rental paid will be gone forever. If one owns the property and if it appreciates and the owner cash out, it will mean rental free from day 1.
