Hongkong actor Evergreen Mak, 51, has been very open about his financial woes after getting involved in a Ponzi scheme that not only damaged his reputation, but his career as well. He left TVB last year and recently became an artiste with ViuTV.
But even with his new job, the actor has admitted that he is still struggling financially. It's why he applied for COVID-19 relief from the Hongkong Performing Artistes Guild, which gives a cash aid of HK$9,000 (S$1,600) to eligible guild members.

To be eligible for the cash aid, artistes have to be a Hongkong resident and have participated in at least two showbiz-related projects in the past three years. Applications were open to those both in front of and behind the camera, with the funds coming from donations from fellow members. With a “limited amount of money” available, the funds were given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to Evergreen, he "didn’t have to wait a long time for [his] request to be approved...". He also said he has "expressed [his] gratitude [to the guild] on social media."

Evergreen, who received his cheque earlier this month, revealed that he has decided to use all the money to pay for his kids' school fees. “The school fees my two children are really expensive so any help is appreciated,” he said.

The actor and his wife of 17 years, Allison, have two children, Shannon, 21, and Wayne, 17. In recent years, he has kept his family out of the spotlight, and has not uploaded photos of his kids on social media for the past three years.
