More than 200,000 police cameras to be installed islandwide by 2030

There are different ways of comparing the number of police cameras in any city - particulary cameras per person and cameras per square mile. China's cities feature heavily in every list. Interestingly, though, London has the third largest number of cameras per person (691,000) and the second most per square mile (607 sq. miles)! Singapore does not yet feature in the former list but is already 8th in the second with 388 cameras per square mile. Adding the extra 110,000 cameras to the roughly 90,000 already installed, it will inevitably jump up the lists.

If  one doesn't misbehave in public,  there is no need to worry about the number of cameras.

That's what they tell you now. Then one fine day, they might change the law such that the smallest thing is illegal, and you will have forgotten that you agreed to all those installation when they said so. Remember how someone said TraceTogether was not meant for anything else except for contact tracing?

Then it's like Geylang.

We know where the cameras are mean where no cameras are we can have sex there.

I even had sex with a worker who said he worked put the cameras there.

I pity those behind the cameras who has to go through days of footages with people prancing and monkeying in front of them.

But, you can also watch unsuspecting couple having sex.  Very exciting for people operating behind those camera lens.

It’s done mostly by AI, my dear

200,000 cameras is one for every 25 people. Hopefully none of these cameras find their way to Singapore gay saunas...

I wish that the US would add 13,000,000 police cameras to patrol the public places. A danger to privacy?  My answer to this is: nothing bad to hide, nothing to fear.

However, there should be kept a record of who accesses these cameras and for what purpose,  to avoid abuses like using the information for profit, to blackmail, etc.

It's interesting how mute the response is from the public on such invasive measures. While it's technically true that there's nothing to "fear" if you don't do anything wrong, it's invasive nonetheless.

And I would disagree with Steve's way of measuring.  With cameras, I wouldn't divide it by total population, I would divide it by total land size.

And I also disagree with the SPF report on how cameras contributed to reduced crime rate, when the comparison stats are from 2020, when most people's movements are already restricted...can't commit housebreaking, can't rob people on the street even if criminals wanted to.

Agree. Just like all these tracetogether data collected etc, very few people seem to be concerned of privacy etc.

Guest SPF IS CORRUPTED

That is due to blindfaith from years of media brainwashing.

The SPF is thoroughly corrupted I can tell you, but the news will never report on it.

They will side with criminals for political correctness and convenience's sake, giving all sorts of excuses, even covering up for them. This is from my personal experience.

Attention-seekers will be having a heyday.

All the more we want S377A to be removed.  Otherwise, being gay is still a crime and I feel very unsafe doing the gay thing under so many cameras watching.

Wearing masks, changing your clothes etc are unlikely to be able to evade surveillance. The AI will be looking at physical attributes that does not easily change.

That does means things like being gay will be easier to harass. E.g. You are cruising - AI detects a pattern of you loitering in a specific area, gets into non-surveillance areas (i.e. toilet/stairwell etc). They cannot charge you with anything under the law but could possibly give you warning since under the law, 377A is punishable.

How about tracking your visitation of a sauna, technically it is illegal to operate a place to provide your patrons a place to have gay sex. How do you explain the number of visits to the sauna? To watch the free movie on their screens every week? What then when these places are eventually forced to close down due to the lack of business.

That straight app that allows married people to have sexual encounters outside marriage is openly shut down.

Far fetched scenarios though that's why there are people pushing for the removal of 377A and pushing for gay rights. Because there could be a day where your rights can be taken away.
