Guest A Recollection
How does it feel like to be cancelled? I believed it is a terrible feelings. I have witnessed such incident in mid 1990s, long before cancel culture was prevalent today. A school mate of mine, we were pusuing a 5-year course of study. On the 3rd year, he accidentally hurt someone in the class-room. It was un-intentional and at best just verbal squabble. The so-called "victim" has her fan base in the class, so she rallied everyone against this guy. He was forced to come out, stood in front of the class, and bow to everyone. I thought it would have ended there and life would resume normally. He told me something which I didn't quite understand, probably about someone's fault for his predicament while pointing his finger towards a smart student in class. I told the smart student about it (I probably shouldn't and still naive). Next day, the smart student drag the guy out of his seat and made him apologise to him publicly in school. He bowed, the 2nd time, while everyone started to boo. The following day, the guy dissappeared from class and gave up his study completely. I felt terrible for him, being cancelled, and have to give up his remaining 2 years of a 5-year course. Being cancelled sucks!!
