The Private Life of Singaporean Comedian Kumar

Kumar's son impresses me as being a nice guy.  He could be my friend.  He is not "hot" in my personal view, he is not Asian and has facial hair.

And Kumar is a good example of a gay man who has a son.  I have one too.  We can be gay and be good fathers,  and our children and their family can be a blessing. Exactly like the case of a straight man.

What you mean he is not Asian?

Are Asian only Chinese?

Interesting..

Is the guy related to Kumar?  like his nephew, cousin..etc?  Otherwise I will feel awkward if a grown up stranger suddently showed up and start calling me "mother" or "father" and then treating my house like his own...hmmmm.   I am not trying to be paranoid and hope Kumar truly find a sincere relationship. Prior to that he still needs to guard his asset with due deligence.

Oh... Steve didn't intend to make a faux pas.   He is very considerate and didn't want to sound racist.  :)

There is some narrative going around in spore to glorify Indians who have come to spore to work.

First they are more talented than anyone else. We can't do without them!

It is also not nice to call them Indians. South Asians sounds sooo much better.

Why isn't it nice to call them Indians???   Are you concerned that they get confused with the American Indians?   Like the Incas in Peru?

And I don't think that they are more talented than anyone else.  I worked with software engineers from India,  from Infosys,  and although they are very driven and ambitious I never found them more intelligent than the rest of us humans.

In spore context, we don't bring in US Indians or Red Indians.

I completely agree with you that since the country is called India, nothing wrong with calling them Indians. Like calling US citizens Americans.

Why do spore find India Indians super great. I think you have read of the CECA? Some people might have posted here.

Oh no!  To dislike men with facial hair is NOT an act of racism.  I don't know of any race where men cannot let facial hair grow.   And I don't like any of it, of any race.

It is not "racism",  it is "esthetics".   But I have nothing against the son of Kumar letting his facial hair grow.  And I am still fine with you Chinese and other Asians having facial hair as long...  as long as you have nice smooth skin without much body hair.

But the country is called India.... and the people from that country are Indians.

the problem started only when other ethnic groups made a negative connotation towards it, in particular here in Singapore...

I think what I meant to have seen in the video is that the guy ran away from his home. But not sure how he landed with Kumar.

They are not related.

Kumar just took him in and played the father / mother role. Latter is funny also.

The video if I remember correct never explained how it came to the situation that the guy ended up with Kumar....

When I was in my early 20s it happened to me also that I was sort of caretaker of a teenager who had issues with his parents (and not accepting him being gay). It was for about 1 1/2 years. There was no fun involved. Just my kindness to allow him to escape from his home. Initially, he drove me nuts, because that age isn't very easy...

When neighbours complained due to his loud music, when I was out of the flat, I had to do some more serious talk with him. Mostly, he ran off first, but appeared back after 2 or 3 hours...

How sweet, both Kumar and his adopted person (son, nephew, whatever) .

Am happy for him and would like to wish him happiness and peace.

And so should we all, in support of a person who is a member of our community.
