I always wonder whether is it legal to have sex with a 16 year old.. even though the law says it's legal.. coz I believed there's always a "grey" area in terms of many many clauses and terms and conditions in the eyes of the law. 😅😅😅😅😅 The legal age to have sex in Singapore is 16 years old. This means that it is a punishable offence to have sex (whether vaginal, oral or anal) with persons below 16 years old, as stated in section 376A of the Singapore Penal Code. The genders of the parties does not matter. It also does not matter whether the minor had consented to having sex. The penalties for a person found guilty of having underage sex depends on the age of the minor. Edited June 29, 2025 by FunLoving Quote
FunLoving Posted June 29, 2025 Posted June 29, 2025 If the minor was between 14 years old and 16 years old, the offender can be jailed up to 20 years, and either fined or caned, if the offender was in an exploitative relationship with the minor. If the parties were not in such a relationship, the offender can be fined and/or jailed for up to 10 years. If the minor was between 16 and 18 years old, the offender could also be charged if the parties were in an exploitative relationship. It gets a bit confusing to comprehend as it says (above) between 16 and 18 years, you still can be charged if the parties were in an exploitative relationship!! Quote
notd Posted June 29, 2025 Posted June 29, 2025 (edited) Underage is underage. No ways about it. The age of sexual consent for both Malaysia and Singapore may be 16, yet that doesn't make it any more okay to sleep with someone of that age range, even if it was the minor who requested it. For one, your frontal cortex, aka the area largely associated with reasoning and judgment is still largely a WIP well into your early 20s. In spite of easier access to sex ed and online materials that inform teenagers, young adults, barely legal minors of their rights and the potential pithole of sex, they may not necessarily comprehend the gravity of their actions. All it takes is one wrong move to destroy either party's future. The workaround? If you're patient enough to wait till they're fully mature (age of legal consent), and if at any given point, they continue to remember you, it's perfectly fine and valid for either of you to continue that relationship. Anything below 21, even 21 itself still scares me a little unless there are very honest conversations involved. If it's a romantic attraction, that's a whole different story, and one that requires attention, openness and communication. Straight to the bed? I advice taking the time to learn both parties' interest and the nature of attraction above anything else. Edited June 29, 2025 by notd Quote
cbm Posted June 29, 2025 Posted June 29, 2025 (edited) In Singapore, there are now laws that protect minors between 16 and 18 years old. Stay away from anyone younger than eighteen please. Edited June 29, 2025 by cbm Quote

Steve5380 Posted June 29, 2025 Posted June 29, 2025 I am surprised that 16 years is admissible for sex in Singapore! Such a sanctimonious country, and it takes away two years of protection for teenagers! Quote

Sweetie Pie Posted June 30, 2025 Posted June 30, 2025 (edited) Contrary to popular belief, especially for guy, unripe fruits don't have as much sweetness. I prefer for them to age a little longer in their late 20s to early 30s in order to enjoy their full flavour. Edited June 30, 2025 by Sweetie Pie mate69 1 Quote

Johan Posted July 2, 2025 Posted July 2, 2025 Interesting topic! My 2 cents comment. If it's no string attach, I personally think it will be awkward. And if things turn ugly between the parties, the law protects the minor. If the parties are exploring into a stable relationship, I will say why not. But then, I will respect the minor till he turn 18 (???) hahahaha Just sharing my thoughts only. FunLoving 1 Quote
IcarusCQC Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 (edited) The law needs updating, that is for sure. 16 is good for consenting sex but not for alcohol, smoking or marriage? And legally, at age 18 one will still need parental consent for so many things. It's not logical. Edited July 3, 2025 by IcarusCQC versatilehairyman 1 Quote

But 18 is a significant threshold with regards to certain aspects of the law, especially criminal liabilities. Quote

greg01greg Posted July 27, 2025 Author Posted July 27, 2025 Here’s an update. I got the same 16 yo trying to convince me that he is of legal age to have sex. And he understood that I was worried (that he is 16) According to him he checked.. I wasnt sure what did he check on. poor boy. I guess he can keep telling himself that he is legal.. the thing he doesn’t really get is - he can land someone into jail… 16 yo now are smarter yes? Quote

Jonathandliai Posted July 28, 2025 Posted July 28, 2025 Nope. this might not be a popular opinion but as long as they are in university and abv 21, it's fair game. sex is sex. disclaimer: I'm 40 and don't usually hook up with very 'young' people but if it's at a club or sauna, are you really gonna check their ID? come on. Apps etc, you can QC via their profile but again, when you meet them, are you really gonna check their ID? Quote
Levis Posted July 29, 2025 Posted July 29, 2025 IMHO, I think 16's mentality is still not well-developed. They may not fully appreciate the implications of being gay for life. All they wanted is perhaps to try the forbidden fruits. I recall many years back there was this guy who shared with me how he became gay. The key defining moment was the sexual experience he had with his 1st man. He was suggesting that perhaps w/o that experience, he would have stayed as a straight and likely not step into this gay track. (Honestly, I wouldn't know too.) Now, imagine you are facing a 16 year old. He may be undergoing what the guy I mentioned earlier was going through. He may claim to be of legal age and knows what he is doing. But does he really know what he is going into? I am sure most of us were like this boy during your teenager times too. I would ask myself whether I should be the one to pull him into this "life track" when he may be better off in the mainstream track. No matter how much we fight for LGBT rights, we are always the minority. We are always discriminated by some of the majority. I don't hope that he would be treated like how we are sometimes treated.
