What do you guys think? Should LGBT people who are ex-criminals and who have served out their prison sentences be banned from LGBT events if they are controversial?

On Saturday, 27 June 2026, Amos Yee, identifying as bisexual, posted on social media platform X saying that he was banned from Pink Dot 2026 held at Hong Lim Park.
Transcript:
"What's up, everybody! I'm here at Pink Dot SG and I just got banned from Pink Dot SG.
I'm here with my mom. I brought her here and um I was excited because I've never been to Pink Dot and I'm, you know, I'm gay, I'm bisexual. A
And my mom is not like the most pro-LGBT person, but I brought her along and just got informed that I got kicked out. They said that it was just due to the organisers' discretion. They didn't really explain why.
And I told my mom, "Oh, you want to still go in and check out the events?" But she said, "Okay, since I was banned, she just wanted to tag along with me. Since I was banned, she's not going in either." So, there we go. Just like I said before, how the gay people, how heterosexual people are treating gay people, just unfair judgement and discrimination is right now how gay people are treating me.
And right now, Free Community Church, the only gay church in Singapore, and like Pink Dot, just the biggest gay events, they've all banned me. Proud Spaces as well, the only gay space in, Singapore, they've all banned me. And so there's that."

I think Pindot is more concerned about his present case than his sexual orientation as gay or bisexual.  His reputation has been poorly tarnished and depicted unfavorably (locally and interantionally?) for years.

Should he participate pinkdot, the opposing factions in society (including MSM) will try to manipulate the narrative to imply that this event signifies we are "endorsing" criminal conduct or pedophilia simply because of Amos' presence.

In a society that evolves so slowly, towards supporting LGBT,  any good intentions by pinkdot can be easily overshadowed by individuals hiding with true malicious intentions, using Amos' presence as weapon against us.

Therefore, the essential aspect is that it's more prudent to focus on the caution regarding Amos's previous actions (sometimes by his own admission) that contradicted humanitarian principles, rather than his identity as gay or bi-sexual.    As soon as he is officially acquitted and his name is cleared by the court, he is warmly invited to join future pinkdot events and shut the mouth of white camp for good.

Let's hope that, prior to the outcome of his case, he isn't using this Pinkdot event as a last-ditch effort to seek safety or to silently protest the way he was "mishandled" for his activities, which are still contentious.  Didn't he just say his mom isn't pro-LGBT?

The above is my 2 cents shed of light.

Allowing and not allowing him to participate are both bad publicity for the event. Personally I think that whatever damage he has done , he did to himself. It's a tough road for him to fit back into society but he can start with serving his National Service... but not sure if that will ever happen.

I think he wants to get banned so he can make videos to be in the public eye. The worst fear for an attention seeker is to become forgotten…

Making this choice is not tough. The public perception of members is the only factor that determines Pinkdot's reputation and branding.  It is not a place for terrorists, drug dealers, child sex offenders and their followers, lawbreakers, etc. Other than that, everyone is welcome on Pinkdot, including those who are blue too.

My sense is Pink Dot clocked him since the day he landed in jail in the US.

He’s just someone who has a perpetual urge for attention and is just gunning for it, and his mum probably has a hand in encouraging or moulding his sickness.

He revels in controversy and with being in the spotlight and he doesn’t care if it’s in good or bad light.

It’s almost like he’s addicted to it and in withdrawal if he’s not in the news one way or another, and craves it and will dig and stir to make sure the swirl on him doesn’t end.

He doesn’t really care if he’s straight or bi or gay, he is just a parasite who will cannibalise or take advantage or upstage any platform to divert and ensure the focus swings to him.

The way to deal blows at him is to negate his chances and deny him the pleasure of leeching on other worthier causes.

Pink Dot welcome everybody regardless of what you are. The problem is with him is that something wrong with his crack head. The organizer makes a right decision for not let him in. In fact, he speak and converse in English very well sadly he turned out to weirdo. He himself did something that public not feel secure especially with kids around. No one to blame him accept himself but again pity the mother still stand still for her only child.

I personally never attended Pink Dot ever but I remember those early years when Pink Dot started, I find it very smart, they use straight allies to be the face of our LGBT cause. So society cannot say "u see la this gay trying to push his gay agenda" cause all they see is straight people supporting LGBT. Also that time nobody dares to come out la, being gay is still illegal, can lose job, status etc.

Now everyone wants to be gay gay gay.

I wonder when did the perception changed from that to Pink Dot being accepting to everybody? Criminals? Rapist? Pedophile? Drug users? All are welcomed? I think not.

Pinkdot has evolved into a place where individuals go to get attention. For example, so-n-so MP attended, a famous person was present, and did the man appear familiar? Whoa, look who's taking part in this year's event. This well-known blogger was from....blah blah blah. Our event was finally featured prominently in......etc    It makes sense why Amos wanted a piece of the cake and his mother had to comply.     Ain't we all proud to be gay?
