groyn88 Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) On Tuesday, 28 July 2026, National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat said in a speech at the 11th Singapore Economic Review Conference (SERC 2026) held at the voco Orchard Singapore hotel that Singapore's past housing policies prioritised public housing for families. However, more people were choosing to remain single or marry later in life in Singapore as well as across the world. The Government noted these changing social norms and demographics and respected these “personal choices”. Therefore, to support younger singles, the Government was looking at lowering their eligibility age to buy HDB flats and that the policy was “currently under careful review”. He added that this reflected the Government’s “pragmatic approach to policymaking” that moved with the times. Keeping policies relevant was “essential” as they could deliver good outcomes for Singaporeans. This in turn supported good politics, created a conducive political environment and enabled conditions for good policies to be designed and implemented over time. The minister noted that while the Government will continue to encourage marriage and parenthood and support families’ housing needs, it has progressively opened up public housing options to singles. Guest No $$ for aging population Posted July 30 Posted July 30 They shouldn't be permitted to be younger than thirty. We don't want young people who have just started their careers to get caught up in big mortgage loans. HDB will become overcrowded on a small island with no more room for peaceful recreation if the age limit is lowered. The lowering of the age limit was justified by the fact that many people opted to stay single is countra productive to encouraging fertility rate. I believe that the government is promoting and implementing more BTO because the nation needs more funding to feed its aging population and provide CPF payouts to the elderly?? Quote

If you mind if anti-government or negative, whatever policy the government introduces or implemented, you will have reasons to oppose. Why don’t you think of the positive impact instead of negative? In a LGBT platform talking about fertility. In one hand we wanted LGBT freedom to be recognized, but on another hand you talk about fertility? Quote

fenghou Posted August 15 Posted August 15 They should address all the supply issues and unmet demand first before lowering the age. If not they are just fugging all those singles who failed to BTO. I heard of people BTO 10 times all fail. Quote
Why? Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I believe that the announcement to lower the age to purchase HDB will be made during the next election. If not, there are no other strategies to win over young voters who have supported the opposition in the last two elections. Hold on to your seat belt and see if my prediction comes true. Quote

HDB might keep track of how many times you've been rejected, and it might give you a better chance on subsequent applications. In my opinion, it's uncommon to be unsuccessful ten times in a row these days. Quote

jolterxtreme Posted August 16 Posted August 16 They should give SIngapore citizenship to PR only after they secure their own homes.. and regulate new citizens into bidding bto against singapore born citizens.. not every malaysian/chinese national converted PR deserves to BTO. Quote
