Maybe you look more mature than your supposedly youthful 19? Some younger guys do look older than older guys?

Guest youthful?

It has nothing to do with how 'youthful' or 'mature' you look. Some people just choose a easy form of addressing others without realising that they maybe rude. To them you are just someone who happen to patronise their store. Live with it and don't be over sensitive. When you are 38 and someone calls you 'ah ti', is also not such a great deal either.

Indeed over-react will just reflect on how petty a person is.

Suppose if you are gay and 70 you still very happy people call you "Ah Tee" hor? heheh

Yes, It is weird if someone call you "Uncle" ... :swear:

But for me, sometimes I went to Shopping malls with my friends or colleagues, the promotion girls/guys always gave me Candy/Balls ... NOT my friends/colleagues ... then the next whole week, I am always the topic of theirs ... which one is worse ?

Because you are more handsome?

Because you are more kid looking?

Because you are the shortest?

You think which one? ;)

Aiya, all these words, just post some of your photos to resolve the 'problem'; ie get advice on personal grooming, styling, dressing, weight issues, etc. If you don't have pics, I can't blame them for guessing and poking fun as they can't really provide any real help even if they wanted to.

In Malaysia and Singapore, I think most sales people refer to guys as "Uncle" and to gals as "Auntie" - its just the done thing. Like in Thailand they say "Meester" and "Madam" and how the Chinese say "Lao Ban". Dont read too much into it. Its just a form of address. I think you would have been equally insulted if she said "Hello Ah Boy, what do you want ah, Ah Boy?".

People who don't know you usually speaks the truth. You looked how you looked, you dress how you dress. Instead of being upset with people, be upset with yourself. Why would a veg aunty call you Uncle? Unless you looked like one. You should thank the veg auntie to point out the truth about you, unless you are in denial, which looks like you are rather defensive by avoiding the veg auntie.

We live in a world full of stereo types, the Ah beng look, the uncle look, etc. So if you don't want people to call you uncle, you might want to take a good look at yourself in front of the mirror and maybe make some changes in your appearance and wardrobe.

Hopefully, the next time when you go to the market again, no one will call you uncle again.

Friends,

Take it easy, no need to over-react if you are call 'Uncle". It's a common slang used widely (or loosely) by Singaporeans.

Not worth getting yourself paranoid....what is important is how you feel about yourself.

At some point of our lives, we have to come to terms with people calling us "Uncle".

The sooner you do, the better it is. We will all age, one way or another.....like it or not.

Yes, we may reduce the chances of being called "uncle" by dressing well and using the right skin products to take care of yourself etc,

it's no guarantee that it would work....(no harm in trying).

After 'Uncle", what's next? " Lau Heow" , " Lau Ah Qua ?" (esp if you are outlandishly trendy by dressing way above your age group).

It is endless.....so why bother !!!

(Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words can never hurt(or break) me) :thumb:

Don't worry. You have come to the right site. There are lots of uncle lovers here, regardless whether you are 17 or 19 or 70, as long as you look like an uncle, you still can find uncle admirers around. Just make sure you don't tell them your age. They will be wondering why this uncle; i.e. you, can be so energetic and can have many rounds of sex. So it is still a blessing in disguise for you.

You may want 2 to consider a image make-over if you also encounter similar experience in the PLU world, cos' in someway, it reflects /w possible 'impact' on your market value .. :D ... and I pretty certain that it's a concern to most gay men.

I really don't feel comfortable when shopping in Philippines, all people always call me "Sir" ... it sounds very formal

i got a 21 yr old firend , he is cute and boyish looking but he dun like to look young at work . he like to dress up and behave like a mature man that look 40 yr old. he dislike ppl calling him ah ti. he feel more professional if he look older cause he afraid ppl might not trust his experience and capability when come to discussing project or during meeting.

It is quite difficult to make 21 yr old look like 40 yr  unless he looks more mature than his age and dress up.

BUT I completely understand how your friend's feeling.

Few times, I went to meet my customer (big boss) for project then they think I am student who is temporary trainee ... then they just sit in the meeting room and wait, keep asking about my boss ... shit ...

Anyway, it depends on the jobs, if your friend is working in bank or insurance, then even me, I prefer the older :swear:

  • 1 year later...

A friend of mine hit 42 yrs old this year and was troubled all day and the next when the chicken rice assistant called him 'Ah Pek'.

Obviously the assistant was only a youthful teenager and had 'respectfully' addressed him with no insults intended.

This goes out to the under 50 yr olds, have you been called 'Ah Pek', 'Ah Chek', or 'Uncle' (hopefully not 'Auntie'!) by a stranger, yet? And were you marginally insulted, haha!:o

I've been called uncle because I am an uncle, hence I'm not offended. But out of curiosity, I went to dye my hair jet black. Suddenly few people call me uncle. Worse of all, this pakistani young man at Little India Arcade was cruising me and calling me "little brother" Maybe the lights were not too bright and he's way much hairier than me.

BUT the biggest difference was at the saunas. Suddenly my market value dropped a lot ??? There were many guys looking like me so there was more competition. Previously my white fringed hair style was really unique and attracted attention from lots of exec fetish guys  However, I quite enjoy the anonymity of not standing out from the crowd and not attracting much attention. which is quite a relief. You cannot imagine how many Chinamen MB and chickens used to solicit me around in Chinatown. Now the salesmen/women also leave me alone to browse.

Also now I am attracting new types of guys.

Well, I had been called Uncle... Lots of time till I Fume up and gave a verbal lashing to the offending Uncles, boiz, boys, gals, butches, children....

Come on, u say.

I am only 31 years old. I don't even look 31. I look like 26-28 yrs old. ( I have youthful look lah, I only attract Mature Uncles old to be my grandfather( that another post)).

Is true, maybe I don't dress youthful enough( Num type of look)

I think is ok to dress my age and look the part.

However, people just don't need to called me Uncle.

There a time at Mcdonald, kena called Auntie.. Because of my hair.

That time onward, I have short NS boys hairstyle... Hah

The only time I knew something close to this was when this student at the university was going through the early stages of a sex change process .... and was addressed as 'Mam' (and was quite happy actually) lol!

Looks & appearance maybe the key here. I may be a bonafide uncle in age, but i sure don't look (and act) like one. That's simply becoz i look years younger and i am like the poster child of the quintessential a&f wearer. I hardly have any shirt&pants in my extensive wardrobe - choosing instead to dress in my a&f and jeans or 3/4 and polo or tanktop assemble.

Except by those annoying tykes, i have yet to be called an uncle - not yet anyway. But like they say, looks & beauty are transient. Lately have been noticing that my skin is not as supple as before. And i may be imagining things, but i swear i just saw an ever tiny line when i last examined my face. Hopefully, it was jux an illusion. Or bad lightning. Coz I am just not ready to have botox and have needles anywhere near my face yet.

Better to be a old soul residing in a young youthful body than be young with an old-looking face. ANYTIME.
