been thinking about that for every CNY too.

Hong Kong, Bangkok, Malaysia, China wouldn't be wise since their shops will be closed for the CNY festivities too.

Japan, Australia, quiet resorts at Bali might be viable options, if your budget allows

Shops in Hong Kong are hardly closed during CNY. At most only the first day. You get more discount during this period. However, HK will be swamped with the mainlanders and it is people congestion almost everywhere. That's if you like crowd and festive mood, HK is a good choice.

Not quite true.

Thailand do not celebrate CNY so its business as usual.

Hongkong nowadays is quite different from before, during CNY, most shops remain opened as usual for the visiting tourist, especially for these rich mainland chinese coming to shop.

In China, its actually a good place to go to really soak into the CNY celebration, something you don't get to see anywhere else. Chinese people celebrating their New Year right?

But in China its known instead as Spring Festival 春节, the festive air is so rich.

Its even nicer in the north like Beijing where its snowing.
