quite obviously, i wouldnt choose minds for the outing... we've been there before. was thinking something new... like booking a chalet and bbq. those who want to stay over can stay and we can play board/console/drinking games (brought by people). of course, the cost will have to be split.

BBQ and chalet sounds like a good idea :) will help if i can

5 years anniversary soon :)

I think a picnic at sentosa / Ecp / botanical gardens would be good. Can blade / cycle / play ball / frisbee / dip into the inviting waters of the beach.

Personally don't like the chalet idea because of various reasons.

Firstly, it's gonna be a 2D1N thing if we book a chalet. We check-in in the afternoon and check-out the next day at noon. Ppl can stream in and out anytime they want and it'll be difficult to find a period where all of us can be tgt in the chalet. How to bond with everybody like that?? Unless u state that the highlight of the chalet is the BBQ, den those attending should give face and stay for the BBQ at least.

Secondly, i'm sure many of us have other plans over the weekends. It'll be difficult to get all of us to commit and stay for the full 2D1N. If we're unable to do so, it sorta defeats the purpose. You have to realise that this is not a birthday party but i bonding session to get to know ppl from the grp 199x better. So staying for a mere 2 hours defeats the purpose of this activity.

Thirdly, for those who come just for the BBQ, how much are u gonna charge them? For those who stay the full 2D1N, how're u gonna charge them? For those who come only in the afternoon / after the BBQ, how're u gonna charge them? It'll be difficult to split the cost equally and some might feel tt it's unfair if everyone were to pay the same amt.

Forthly, it's not gonna be a gd activity to bond if we're just playin board games and console games.. Because the grp will prolly be split into doing different things. Should find an activity that all of us can engage in, such as blading / cycling. Those who can cycle / blade can help those tho can't. This is what i mean by bonding. Not 4 ppl playin wii, 1 person playin xbox, 4 ppl playin board games, 3 ppl cycling, which will be the scenario if a chalet is organised.

Fifthly, the chalet is not exactly big. The floor is dirty. Unless we're willing to clean, wash, and tidy up the place upon checking in.. Chairs are not provided so i guess we'll be sprawlin and sitting all over the floor.. Might as well sprawl on the beach right? Gonna be troublesome and inconvenient for us to transport things there.. Eg, console games, board games, food, booze, etc..

Sixthly, i've done a brief check on chalet bookings (aloha and costa sands downtown east). Assuming we book now, the earliest weekend slot we can get is in mid october. Mid nov - Dec is almost fully booked. So if we wanna book, we should de-conflict our commitments with the organiser and quickly choose a date and make the booking. If we continue procrastinating, i fear our chalet plans will only materialise next year.

Seventhly, i always thought that a chalet would only be successful if u attend it with those people u know well. (Eg. class chalets, cca chaltets..) only then would u stay the full 2D1N. If u attend your friend's brithday barty at a chalet, and realise that he invited his pri school friends, sec school friends, jc friends, army friends, etc, you'll be bored because u hardly know anyone. So you'll prolly jz stay and hour or so, eat the food, give him his present, and leave soon after. My point is that this chalet outing is an open invitation for the boys of 199x.. There're bound to be new ppl joinin us. These new guys may not know anyone and find it hard to bond with us.. (after all it's their first meet up with the group). They might not feel comfortable to stay throughout the 2D1N. And that defeats the purpose of the chalet because we want everyone to enjoy, have fun, bond, and feel inclusive.

I got more reasons y we shouldn't hold a chalet for our second or third group outing but i guess i better stop here. The post is getting too lengthy.

I think you worry a little too much. haha I think a chalet is a good idea purely because it's free and easy and does not put pressure on anyone to do anything or to participate in the activities. And i think that it's nice that there's a time range for people to go as if someone can't make it for dinner specifically, at least he can still partake in other activities throughout the entire time. However, what you said about the pricing do make sense but i guess it can be sorted out via mutual agreement.

That said, a picnic sounds like a really good idea as well. :)

Blade/cycle at ECP sounds the most plausible. A possible course of itinerary would be to start at our favorite Fort Rd CP (or the nearest bike kiosk thereafter), with your own/rented wheels, cycle all the way to SAF FT, buy ice cold ribena for the duty personnel, and cycle back - all within about 3-4 hours. People should also rent helmets, gloves, elbow and knee guards so as to minimize the potential for happy tree friends. If I'm not wrong, bike rental is between $7 and $12 per hour depending on shop and make.

Sentosa may get a *little* crowded - too many tourists. Lunch is expensive too. And there's always the temptation of USS and other exorbitantly priced tourist traps, which may not be the most financially prudent thing to do for everyone.

Hello, actually I agree with evian about the chalet thing.. though it may seem like a good time for bonding, I think it'll end up with everyone having their own cliques. However, a bbq sounds nice. And the picnic/night cycling idea sounds good. How about some kite flying too?? Hahaha

Thank you. So go and vote for night cycling or day cycling + picnic!! Don't vote the chalet.

Ooh really? Need to surrender I/C type or not? Can't stand those rental kiosks along east coast which ask for I/C.

Yea, u'll need to surrender I/c. But how come u hate such rental kiosks? We'll all be surrendering our ICs with you. Don't worry =)

Lawls,calm down man. They have reasons for not choosing the chalet. I'm fine with either choice though (;

i'm not bad about people not choosing the chalet, but i'm a bit ticked off seeing that someone is outrightly discouraging people from voting for an idea.

I suppose, however democratic it might appear to be, the poll results do reflect the thoughts and opinions of the majority.

Thus, I dunno about the people who feel strongly against the most popular choice, but if it were me and my other groups of friends, I'd heck it and just go for the majority... cos this is a mere start, with doing something what most people prefer. Thereafter, it's always possible to continue to break into smaller sub-groups for more specialized activities i.e. mahjong, night cycling etc.

I dunno why I'm saying all these lol but uh yeah... xD
