I got a Burberry Polo when I was 18. Saved up my part time job pay and got myself that shirt. I usually shop at Pull and Bear for shirts and skinny jeans, Ben Sherman or Gap for some button down shirts and Metro for my boxer briefs. I only wear 2(xist). It's the only brand that I'm comfortable with.

Anyway, to the accessories - i hardly accessorize!

I always wear my silver/metal watch and a bracelet that i got on my grad trip from china.

Other than that i'm a bore.

I like to think i'm not a bore with shoes and pants though.

Adore the shoes at Pedro, especially the loafers! Have bought ... 6 pairs of shoes from them? Most of them being wild leather loafers in colors such as brown/blue/red/grey.

I usually get my pants/bermudas from Zara or H&M in pastel colors and top it of with a simple shirt with the sleeves rolled up and my ( fake xD) Wayfarers!

Talking about Men Fashion as a whole, I observed there are two mainstream Fashion direction guys in Singapore follow.

1. Asian style (Japan, South-Korea & Taiwan). Guys following this style usually have medium length hair with a side swept fringe. Clothing are neat and fitting but tend to be on the brighter side and occasionally comes with interesting designs that is not frequently seen in everyday clothes. Typically coloured (or sometimes even brightly pastel red, green, orange, turquoise coloured) berms or jeans, casual sneakers with a pattern/printed coloured shirt/t-shirt.

This style portrays a young, energetic and playful guy. Extreme cases would be Bishonen aka Pretty Boys or Ah-bengs. However, this style suits most Asian guys because we generally lack the commercial masculine facial feature (high nose bridge, define jawline, set-in eyes and facial hair... for Chinese at least). If you do not go overboard with the colours and complexity of the clothes you will look like a Fashionista from Japan, South-Korea or Taiwan.

2. Europeanised style. Recently gaining a lot of popularity. Guys following this style usually have very short sides and heavy top, pompadour-like hairstyle. Clothing are neat and fitting as well but tend to be more neutral in colour (Brown, Khaki, Dark Blue, Light Grey) with occasional splash of colours. Usually people pair a neutral coloured pants with loafers/berms with a plain/printed coloured shirt/t-shirt. The design also tend to be more rugged, simplistic and minimalist.

This style portrays a mature, stable and sophisticated guy. Although it is an evergreen and classic style, you run the risk of being labelled as "old-fashioned" if you do not know how to match your clothes. The advantage of this style is that it is extremely flexible and applicable for most ages and most occasion. You can wear this style to work and HR (which are probably dominated by Women) will not reprimand you, instead they might admire your style. If you have plenty of facial hair, trim and groom it to compliment your overall image.

What kind of bag are you looking for? A messenger or a top handle bag? Leather or canvas? In my opinion, Esprit and Pedro have pretty decent bags. Man bags are quite hard to find unless you go for those branded ones.

WOW really interesting! Who would've thought of adding leather collars to a formal shirt? His shapes and proportions are interesting. Especially his coats and a brown leather jacket from SS 12. I came across the label WSDM too. It has mainly street wear clothes. Pretty nice. I wanna have a look at both labels at Parco Marina Bay!

I found Jil Sander's (yes, Jil's Jil Sander) execution of clothes to be outrightly succinct and on point. these are the clothes where at their true essence. yes, these clothes might not be Lady Gaga's proportions/ notions of fashion. However, it displays of clothes being essentially CLOTHES at its distilled luxurious unadulterated state. aptly transcending away from facade of modern minimalism and its tainted complications.

Hey Jeeves,

I feel you could try watches with a wider leather strap, around 1 inch wide.

This would help give the illusion of a thicker wrist, and it will keep the watch

in position, instead of the watch rolling to the side.

Well darker colours are always more slimming I think of rompers as a mechanic's overalls, except cropped.

Singapore men esp gays (that always die in the gym -sorry about such generalisation) tend to wear ULTRA MEGA tight fitting biz shirts and only biz shirts ONLY, as though they r trying to strangle or suffocate their nipples/chest instantly!!! never have I seen in Japan before

There has been so much condemnation on how middle-aged male Singaporeans dress.  Things like oversized (faded) T-shirt covering their pot belly and cargo shorts  that make them look (even) shorter!

 

I always wonder whether there are local fashion advisers out there to assist the middle-aged Singaporean men.  Most fashion spreads in magazines tend to favour the younger set and whenever the focus shift to middle-aged, it is always the suits that are featured.

 

I think it is time for me/us the middle-aged men to get some attention. I know what I cannot wear (cargo pants and skinny pants are OUT).   There are some trends that we cannot adapt - the super tight UNDER-ARMOUR type of clothes is a sure No-No. 

 

I need advice on how to dress casually/appropriately without looking like a peacock nor a sloppish coffeeshop assistant.  Perhaps someone in the industry can help, say with a budget of $100 for an ensemble-shoes and bags are not included in the budget.

It is fascinating to me how with globalisation, a traditional American post-Thanksgiving event, Black Friday,  has spread. I supposed just as Singles Day (11/11) became relatively popular here as well. Anyway, my concerns with globalisation is that only big companies can do so, and it takes away the uniqueness of the brand. Once upon a time, H&M, Ikea etc. was in Sweden only, now they are in every major city around the world selling identical items more or less. Same goes to Zara, Uniqlo etc. there really isn't much difference any more.

I was so impressed when I was at USA H&M 7yrs ago, it has So much more variety (+ on many storey) when compared to sg, that applies to Msia's too, esp so when sg is really a small market but we attract international tourists!

which is why I mentioned that : be it CottonOn Australia (origin), Espirit, Uniqlo , Guess etc, my lady frens are all crying that  adding one threadline to last year Sweater design from UNIQLO : is this year's UNIQLO hot FASHION item on the RUNWAY or  in the promotional video of latest season items!
this is scary and I felt it is making us looking a factory items

hence the fashion experts will come in to accessorise to make your factory clothing different (sometimes when u r down u don't feel like accessorizing, u just want to go out and take a walk or ...)

even for Jp Donki ,  tokyu hands, Muji have infiltrated into sg. Recently Muji is making Sg its SEASia FLAGship store but I can see the collection is still quite far from Japan's
Jp has designs eg only limited to Harajuku, or at least only can find in Jp

 while sg malls attempt to keep invite jp stuff into sg like glasses shop Zoff, etc they replicate it in EVERY mall!!!

 

which is why I don't shop in sg unless very necessary like daily food , daily items (a sweater is not a daily item in sg, in case many are unable to differentiate what is a daily item)

@-Ignored- one of my girlfriends who is a model, commented this to me recently. She said when you look at the history of fashion, styles didn't change as much or as fast as now. It used to take about a 100 years more or less for fashion to change (Western world. Not too sure about Asian fashion, but that's a different topic). However, it was only in the past century with industrialisation that fashion became more of a 2x a year, Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter thing. But in the last decade, it has become almost a monthly thing, with brands like H&M, Zara, promoting disposable fashion. As a model, she is happy with the amount of work she is getting, but at some point it does raise the question, how much clothes do we really need? Also, the factories that made these disposable fashion, are known to be sweat shops. 

 

I saw this documentary a while back on Netflix. It is really eye opening and since then, I've stopped shopping and H&M etc. and bought a lot less clothes.
