Which Food Blogs Do You Follow? What Do You Look For In A Food Blog?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering about our BW foodies, which food bloggers are your favs that you follow their postings regularly?

What do you look for when you follow a food blog? Life stories from the blogger? Professional food shots? Fining dining places that you don't go but fulfil your curiosity through the blog?

Would you be interested in following a food blog that focuses on mainly hawker or affordable budget foodfare without high end fine dining foods?

These are my current favs but my personal grouse is that often their postings are of places that seem quite expensive and I wish I could know of one that features more wallet friendly recommendations. :P

I usually just look at food blogs to see what restaurants there are for certain food and not so much on the food recommendation/ writeup on the restaurants themselves.

Some food bloggers are inclined/ 'obligated' to write good things for their 'clients' or 'sponsor' and may not present a fair representation of the restaurant. And I do know some of these bloggers are not receptive to feedback from the public especially when they are on the negative side. Try posting a comment when you have a negative experience. Most likely, your comment will never be published. Somehow the blogger/moderator/team of moderators just 'never manage to notice' them.

Anyway when most food bloggers go around for their food tasting, the restaurants will definitely put up their best service and tighten their reins on the kitchen since everything is pre-arranged. If the food is really not up to par, the blogpost will be focusing more on the ambience and everything else but the food, but you get the hint anyway.

For me, good food bloggers are those who know their food well, the characteristics of ingredients and how to describe the texture and taste of their food appropriately with words commonly used in food compendiums/articles. For example, pasta when well-cooked is supposed to taste al dente - firm to the bite.

I always take the blogs and write-ups with a pinch of salt. It may be enjoyable reading their style of writing though, if they are good writers.

I do notice that quite a few of the food bloggers, especially the more popular ones, tend to focus more on the fine dining outlets in Singapore, e.g. restaurants, overseas trips, hotels, etc, and less on more economical foodfare like hawker centres, food courts, etc. Pardon me if I am wrong but it does seem that most of the popular food bloggers are affluent and pretty well-to-do? e.g. ieatishootipost's blogger is a doctor. Nothing wrong with that of course, but just wondering if there might be any bloggers out there who might be in the blue collared working class that the majority of us are in?

TOTALLY AGREE. I keep my own archive of economical good value yummy foods i.e. hawker centre, takeaway shops, buffets etc. but no time to blog.
