I couldn't find any recent posts here on Cambodia, but I wanted to share some experiences earlier this year:

 

Siem Reap

 

I flew Jetstar from Singapore direct to Siem Reap.  I had booked accommodation at the Golden Banana online after reading some reviews on gay travel websites, and there was a nice boy with my name on a sign waiting to take me by tuk-tuk from the airport.  The hotel itself is advertised on gay sites, but the clientele is mixed.  Actually there are several different parts to the hotel, which is at the end of a little alley south of the river, and the hotel itself seems to take up most of the alley.  The staff all seem to be gay and are very friendly, although they are not allowed to play around with the guests.  Which is a shame, because they were all really cute.  And apart from one gay couple the rest of the guests were not gay.  There is a nice pool area and the whole place feels very homey.  The staff arranged a tuk-tuk driver to take me on two days to tour Angkor Wat, which is amazing.  My tuk-tuk driver was a cute young Khmer who spoke good English.  It was hard to keep my eyes off his underwear showing while he drove.  The hotel had some pamphlets for gay massage places in Siem Reap, but I was too exhausted after walking around temples to do anything other than laze by the pool.  Golden Banana is a great hotel that I recommend to anyone looking for reasonably priced accommodation in Siem Reap. I chose to stay here rather than the Men's Resort, which is also advertised on gay sites, because it was closer to the main part of town with restaurants and bars.

 

Phnom Penh

Because I didn't have much time I caught a plane to Phnom Penh and stayed at a hotel near the central market area.  The hotel was nothing special, although the markets look nice.  There was a street close to the market that looked like it was full of bars/brothels but there were lots of very young girls walking around, so I felt a bit uncomfortable.

 

I had heard of a spa called Galaxy Khmer near the palace and close to the water, which looked nice.  I was sightseeing in the area in the early afternoon, though, so didn't bother to go in because it would probably be empty.  Instead I went to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in the south of the city, which is really horrible.  To pick up my mood I then went to Hatha Khmer massage, which is about two blocks from the museum (there are street signs to guide you).  The massage place is housed in a traditional Khmer house with a nice garden out the front.  Even though it was still early, there were about a dozen guys hanging around the garden.  As soon as I entered the house the papasan told me he only had boys (which was fine!) and then he called them all in for me to choose.  They arranged themselves behind a glass partition so it was like a fishbowl, and they all had numbers pinned to their clothes.  I don't like this method of choosing, but there were some cute guys, so I picked one and we went upstairs for the massage.  The place only has a few rooms, but each has its own shower facilities.  The room was really hot, so I was sweating a lot.  But the massage was excellent.  The masseur could only speak a little English, but we could mime what we each wanted to do and at the end of the massage he took off his underwear and we both enjoyed a very happy ending.  I would recommend this place - it was only USD20 for a 60 minute massage.

 

I hope this helps anyone going to Cambodia for some fun.  I had a great time and would go back again some day, so please share your own experiences.

 

 

 

Hatha Khmer near the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum

I was lucky enough to befriend a local on planetromeo. My boyfriend and I joined his gang of friends to enjoy Blue Chilli (a bar) and then Heart of Darkness (a club). This seemed to be the standard weekend itinerary for gay nightlife in Phnom Penh.

 

It was quite enjoyable, if only to check out the local gay Khmer nightlife. I just wished there were more locals and less foreigners.
