Hey guys. Wondering if more gays wear glasses or contacts? And do you feel less attractive when u are in glasses? I am 1400 degrees per eye. Probably the highest in Singapore. And have been wearing contacts for as long as I can remember. But lately there are problems with the eye and gotta revert back to glasses. I feel I look like a dork. Any one of u out there have the same problem?

have to admit that your degree is quite high, consider getting glass lens or hi-index to decrease the thickness of your lenses. Smaller frames and plastic will be your best bet.

hahaha there's little i can recommend because 1400 is really high index. are you currently on hard or soft lenses?

I'm ALMOST as high as you in that aspect and while I don't feel like a dork, I do feel that the thick lenses can be unattractive. Sigh!

More importantly, it really gets in the way of swimming, saunas and love-making.

I don't want my love-making to be a blur but it really gets in the way if I put them on, especially for kissing and rimming :(

So u wear glasses and not lenses most of the time? Do people comment on your specs? Or like look shocked?

yup. its usually the case. RGP might still be a better option. But contact lenses definitely have more risks of infection. Try to get more rest days with soft lenses, might risk having neovascularisation of your cornea if there is prolonged wearing.

Considered LASIK but cornea too thin :-(

cant do femto second? did your opth recommended epilasik instead? though with your high degree of myopia, they cant possibly shave off everything. probably remnant of 200-400 even after surgery.

I read on the papers there's a new technology that implants lenses on your cornea. Costs nearly $10k.

It is non-evasive and reversible (but of course, why would you want to reverse it anyway).

You can try googling.

I used to wear lenses when degree was lower. Switched back to glasses when eyes become drier and degree crossed the 1000 mark.

Even I use hi-index and smaller frames, the lenses are still visibly thick. I don't recall anyone commenting on my specs. Maybe they are just too polite. But I do think I look better with glasses...just wished the degree is not so high.

Lasik is also out for me for thin cornea.

it's called implantable contact lenses. and yes. it's quite common these days.

One of my ex colleagues had that procedure. One side of his eye he could wear contacts but on the other side, he could not. He went for the treatment and does not wear glasses now. The procedure is relatively new I think so investigate thoroughly until you are satisfied. But TS, your infection is temporary, isnt it? Tell you story. In a sauna (not in Singapore), there was this quite attractive guy who kept on dragging different people into the shower cubicle with him. What happened in the shower cubicle I will leave to your imagination. Each and every one of the guys he dragged in had one thing in common ... they wore glasses. So yes, am sure there is a market for you with your glasses on too, hahaha.

I don't like to wear glasses but people say I look cute in it while some prefer me to ditch them. Most importantly, the glasses should suit your face structure. Last time I used to pick frames that are too small for my face and I look like a nerd. Currently, I wear glasses with a much larger frame and it turns out nice. Anyway, I only wear glasses when I'm too lazy to wear my contacts or my eyes are irritated.

Yes, the Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL) is a better option as it is reversible, compared to LASIK, and more expensive as otokonoko mentioned - about $10K.

Reversible is good, in the sense that if your power increase (or even decrease), you have an option to replace the lenses? But that comes with addition expenses of course, haha...

Happy - is what we should be, always.

I doubt if he sees me in my glasses, he won't get an erection. Hehe

The thing is with my kind of degrees, I cannot get frames too big. The lens will become too thick.

That's way out of my budget. Hehehe

I was talking about lasik surgery with my friend the other day.

Both of us cannot take the mental stress of seeing something cut our corneas out.

So in the end we opted to keep wearing glasses or contacts.

No contacts for me as I'm just too afraid to touch my own eye.

My degree is about half of yours but I always get the optician to compress my lens when I make new glasses.

Just not cheap.

In long term would it be advisable to wear contact everyday? Won't it have some damage to the eye when you take out the lense everyday?

i also change my lens case every month

I'll say get both lens and spectacle!

Owndays do have a couple of frame that are nice and durable. The price range is between $179 to $269 "I guess :x"

Under your influence, you're the magic in my veins.

1000 deg... I look like a dork in glasses too, but after wearing contact lenses for a year, I have reverted to glasses... there were some disparaging comments and that's understandable, cos this pair was originally meant for home use i.e. not hi-index and cheap plastic frame.... haha....

I think glasses or not really depends on your face shape! For example, if you have high cheek bones, a pair of spectacles can even out the contours of your face! If you have small eyes, contacts can make your eyes look slightly bigger and sparkly.

Do u like it when u are having sex in a total dark room where u cant even see ur fingers?

Exactly. With our kind of degrees, there's almost no way we can wear glasses without looking like a dork. Hahaha. It's not easy for people less than 1000degrees to really understand.

Admittedly I do get complacent sometimes. But with the long hours spent outside, it's really difficult to keep contacts wearing to less than the recommended 8-10hours a day. I change out of lenses the moment I reach home too. And almost proper cleaning regime is maintained, but still I think the long hours of wearing takes a toll on the eyes.

Having sex in the blur is not very nice cos with my degrees, it's impossible to see the expression of your partner, so u have no idea whether he's enjoying it or not just faking it.

Y dun u have both...? For me, i have like 4 pairs of specs and disposable toric lenses...

Different days, different looks...

And plus, my degree is quite also high... close to a thousand....

Keep ur options open...

I can totally feel you. I'm 1800 degrees and I absolutely can't do without contacts. I've got a fair share of rejection in glasses but when I'm in contacts it's a different story. Back in the days before I got lenses, I've even got a guy who outright told me that if not for my glasses, he'd fall in love with me. That's how people like us get it.

My thinking is he was rejecting you in a polite way (even in contact lense like you shld do lasik, eh? ) : D

Totally agree.

To TS:

I understand where you are coming from. I had 700+ for my left and 600+ for my right eye. Worse, my astig was quite bad, very very blur without any optical aid and it gets in the way during my run or swim. Contacts was my only option. The irony was that, thru my years of contacts, I  had 1 infection (and that was during my very meticulous cleaning regime) and during those "less caring" days, my eyes were fine.

Do not be too bothered with how others see you. More importantly, you need weigh what are the options for you -  be it glasses /  contacts /  surgery. Once decided, go for it. :)

Posted

If you are worried about infection and think you will not be very keen on cleaning your contact lens dutifully, it is best to go for daily disposables. True that it cost more. However, you get a new pair everyday and the risk of infection reduced as well.

I'm about 1300 degrees so definitely contacts for me. Totally understand how glasses can alter our appearance. But I used to know this guy who likes my glasses many years ago. Quite good looking, big and tall. But he seems to have disappeared from the scene altogether. Would love to meet him again.

For me, I think guys look better without glasses. But this boils down to taste, so who am I to say...

I personally wear glasses, and not feeling like switching to contacts. Firstly because not used to it. Secondly because years of wearing glasses have somewhat left some 'traces' so not very nice either (not very obvious, but not sure why somehow just can tell).

I don't like fanciful frames. So I just settle with whatever that makes me look least dorky.

Made the switch to contacts a few weeks ago and I don't regret it one bit. Glasses make me look too nerdy / act-cute (act only please, I'm not saying I'm cute). I only wear them at night when I'm home.

Welcome to the world of contact lens. Yes, please do not sleep with your contact lens and remember to clean them thoroughly after each day if you are not on dailies.

Enjoy! :-)
