Guest Mihosan
Chubbybear what is your definition of safe sex. Besides condoms for anal sex, what about oral sex, rimming and kissing. Is protection and what protection is necessary. Once in a while a reminder like this is very useful to those of us who suffer memory lapses and go dizzy with our partners! :thumb:
Guest Be Safe
It's easy to get STDs from anal sex and oral sex. It's also very possible get it from kissing and rimming. IMHO, the safest is to stick to monogamous relationship. However, this is difficult to come by as people are somehow afraid of being attached.Beside, our rectum is know to absorb 5 times better than oral ingestion. Which means that chemicals go straight into our blood stream, bypassing the digestion system. Even our skin could absorb better than oral ingestion. Haven't we seen those trans-dermal patches on sale at the pharmacy? It seems like nothing is safe. Even if we could protect ourselves from bacteria and viruses, how about the harmful chemicals (mostly found in lubricants) we applied on ourselves? They go straight into our blood stream and the toxicity becomes systemic. This systemic toxicity is going to affect our immune system, slowly but surely. And, this put us at risk to opportunistic diseases which would have otherwise be overcome by our normal immune system. Search the Web on "Harmful Chemicals", and compare them with the list of ingredients found in our tube/bottle of lubricant. It's a shocking revelation. Guest Curious!
The atmosphere at DSC is normally rather tense, sometimes scary...You get your blood collected and have to sit there for a agonizing 30mins. Sometimes you see other people behind you getting call to get the results first and your mind started to say - oh No, why so long? Also when you see someone being called into the small room to get results haven't come out after a long time - it's normally bad news.Good thing is there is counseling session before you get your test.I think the place itself very professional run even though most of the people there look like volunteers. Goof Luck.

GachiMuchi
The self test kid have been trial and tested for many years before being launched. I know because, in the past. When one goes to take the blood test, they also use the test kit for trial. Anyway, if you were to go to DSC for test, there is a volunteer which will meet you in the room. He will ask you some questions from a form. He will also be there to break the good and or bad news to you. Their job is to provide support should it be a bad new and if it is a good new, from the survey form, he will highlight to you about safe sex, etc. Please be assured that they are there to help and make your visit there as pleasant as possible. slayer
There is no need to be afraid about getting wierd looks because everyone will be afraid of the same thing while you are there. So you already have something in common with the people there to start with. As for the staff members, they have seen everything imagineable sonce day one so your fears are nothing new to them. The best way to deal with your fear is just to take a deep breadth and walk right in. HIV testing is 20.00 (I can't remember if there is GST incuded already). And yes, it is 100% annonymous. No names are exchanged at any time and even towards the end when a survey is done by a counsellor, your name isn't taken down. The data they collect is for statistical purposes only. It is a good feeling to set your mind at ease whether are you +ve or not. In case the worse happens, be comforted that it isnt the end of the world. There have been much medical advances to keep this ailment at bay and being +ve these days is no more serious than diabetes. Good luck! For $20 more you can choose the day and time the clinic is quiet by loitering outside the clinic you can tell got customers or not. Also called up to test whether the nurse is friendly or rude. Choose one that is reassuring and friendly, it helps. If your test is not good (touched wood), cum in here to tell us what happened. You might get good advices. Sticky&Sweet
I think you might have mistaken AfA for DSC.AfA is anonymous. DSC is a govt run clinic and that one is not anonymous. Also the DSC provides other STD tests like syphilis etc. They also charge differently. I'm not sure if their HIV test is the 15min one. It might be the blood test where the results take a week to come back. There are initial confusion over AfA and DSC because AfA uses the same location of DSC after DSC has closed for the day. There is no need to be afraid about getting wierd looks because everyone will be afraid of the same thing while you are there. dandgrey
Hi all,When I first had my test 2 years ago - and a few more visits after that - the result was told after 20 minutes of waiting - exactly 20 minutes because i count the timing. But in recent tests i was told the result in 10 minutes and 5 minutes only. For the previous visits, i asked the person and he said 10 minutes is enough because once the mark is there it is confirm positive or negative. But for the last visit last week, it was shortened to 5 minutes only. Again, the same reason given by the same person.I wonder is the 20 minutes is a must or actually it is true 5 minutes will do - and accurate? Because what I understand so far the result must be read after 15 to 20 minutes. Any advice? Especially for fellow members who are volunteers in AFA? Anyway, I just want the test given the sufficient time to give the accurate result, and I believe everybody also want to have the accurate result though it is longer time of waiting instead just 5 minutes but leaving with wondering about the accuracy Thanks.PS: Please always do the safe sex guys... briax
If you are taking an anoymous AFA test in DSC, your results will stay anoymous. But I heard that if you are tested positive, counsellors will be at hand to give u advice and counselling.I think for other outlets , results will be recorded but prob kept confidential. Eh, can you explain your situation?Because at AFA and the other private clinics that are listed, you do not need to produce your identification card for registration but you are called by a random assigned number, you do not need to reveal your identity if you are tested positive. AFA counsellors are trained to provide pre and post counselling. They will also explain to you the steps to take, if your HIV test shows positive. Usually you are encouraged to do a lab test which you have to draw more blood. Even then, you are not required to give your IC. You are asked to give a name (any name) and a contact number so that the staff can call you when the result is out. You can remain anonymous as long as you want.IF you are doing your HIV test at any other non - anonymous testing clinics, your medical record will be reported to MOH as part of the doctor medical guideline to maintain a national wide surveillance of the HIV infection rate. So your best bet is still go to AFA or the listed clinics. That aside, if you have any concerns about your status, you can callOCMSM Hotline 626 86 626Tue to Thu 7 to 10pm / Sat 2 to 6pm Or use email counselling on www.oogachaga.com/careIf you are asking very specific about HIV issues, you can also call AFA number (65) 6254 0212. There is always someone you can talk to about what you are going through, you dun have to be alone. Quote Facebook.com/Bryan Choong

dannyGuy
I've done tests at DSC. They promise the details are kept confidential and there'll be no cross-sharing of information except for general statistical purposes. With that said, I personally think there may be exceptional cases like specific cases of tracing which may require limited sharing of information but I'm not sure of the extend. The important point should be our own personal health and we should take all the tests for HIV and STDs. The goverment does subsidise the more expensive tests for STDs - I think it's about 40 - 50% for Singaporeans. I did all the tests in one go and the total costs came up to about S$150. You don't get such amount if you get tested outside. Make sure you call up to make an appointment first. Don't be shy, the staff there have seen many many many patients and walk-ins.
