Take it easy. If you have used a condom, the risk is actually quite low. From my understanding from readings, syphilis can be treated rather easily via antibiotics.

Stay strong and be safe! :-)

Anti-biotics and also injection in the ass or just anti-biotics. It takes up to 6 weeks to cure.

Everyone has gone through that stage of anxiety before. Knowing the result feels much better than not knowing, honestly speaking.  I think the TS has done a full blood test that requires such a long wait for the result, otherwise, the result can be obtained instantly for HIV testing.

Moral of the story, stick to one partner, encourage monogamous relationship and lover should always go for blood screening regularly, not just for HIV but other illness like liver, kidney, diabetic, heart condition...etc so that both can understand each other health condition moving forward.  If you have found such a partner and believe he is clean and decent, don't wait - grab and run before seeking his approval and I don't mean kidnap...hahaha

So i came back from taiwan 1 month ago. At that time i visited a few saunas, and subsequently i noticed a painless ulcer that develop on my glans penis. It went away spontaneously without treatment after about 2 weeks. At that time the first thing that came to my mind was syphilis. I was pretty sure i was having a primary syphilis infection. But i did not have the courage to get it checked. (syphilis can be easily treated with anbitiotics).

Anyways, i came back to Malaysia and visited sauna for once. and had some really bad and traumatic experience. knowing that having syphilis infection will increase the chance of contracting HIV, after much struggle and contemplation, i have decided to get myself screened for HIV n syphilis. FYI, i have my own principles of not engaging in anal sex because i find the risk of contracting HIV overly high and i cannot live with the the fear of getting HIV. so at most i go for oral sex, which has a much lower risk of getting HIV. (doesnt mean no risk though)

Anyways, the purpose of this post is to raise awareness of HIV transmission.

Honestly I m slightly angry reading your comment on syphilis part; If you suspected yourself infected by syphilis in Taiwan then why you went to sauna in Malaysia? That's irresponsible because you might spreading it to someone else in Malaysia if you really has it. Your post should not only raise awareness towards HIV but also towards ANY STD.

Good luck with the test hopefully all will come negative.

together with the test, i was also screened for syphilis, herpes simplex virus, chlamydia, which all came back negative. Again, i really strong urge those who are currently engaged in high risk sexual behaviour to think twice before doing it.

I feel really relieved and hope that this message can reach out to those out there.

I have been having fun with gujys and for safety sake, I just had some tests done for possible STDs.

Explained to the doctor that I am gay and some history of previous sex sessions.

Tests were done, and now I need to wait for a couple of days for the results (for the STDs).  Cleared HIV though.

Now, regardless of how the results turn out, I am wondering whether all these will be kept anonymous. Afterall, they have all my details from address to my mobile number.  This is despite the nurse telling me that it will be so.

Reason for me asking is that I heard that our efficient government may go around doing contact tracing.

Also will the fact that I am gay be revealed? (Not that I am terribly bothered, but I do not want to create complications at places of employment).

Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

read up on infectious disease act.

mandatory by law in singapore for doctors to report cases of, including suspected and those undergoing treatment, for some STDs. depending on severity/what STD it is, reports are channeled to different places like MOH / DSC.

in any case most practitioners will refer patients to go to DSC clinic anyway when they suspect an STD, be it an anonymous testing site or not.

the screening itself might be kept confidential, if you did at a place gazetted by MOH to be an anonymous site, but most of the time these sites won't be able to treat your STD, so the relevant authorities will still know when you go get treatment elsewhere. but it wont be dramatic la, unless you're underaged

I would like to share something which I think is essential for ALL to know.

Should you suspect that you've gotten STD or HIV from casual sex, what to do?

Visit DSC Clinic @ 31 Kelantan Lane ?
Many of you might worry that DSC is a gov clinic, and will probably record your personal data should you kena HIV positive. For HIV testing, I would probably suggest to do anonymous screening and for other STD diagnostic test I think it is okay to do at DSC. DSC do provide anonymous screening for HIV (by afa), check out http://afa.org.sg

This particular clinic which I have visited many years ago is Anteh Dispensary, they provide anonymous screening for STD/HIV. Look for this particular doctor called Dr Hwang, he is very professional and skilled. He had helped to resolve my problem :P

Anteh Dispensary, 368 Geylang Road S(389381), Tel: 67441809
Mon to Fri: 9.00am to 12.00pm, 2.00pm to 5.00pm

Sat: 9.00am to 12.00pm

Note: Do remember to call to ask if Dr Hwang is around, he seem to be a busy doctor that will station at a different clinic.

Yes, thx for that.  Have every year for testing but had to pay.  How much Sg doesn't have free HIV testing clinics like other countries?

I had gone to this clinic for my test. Was very nervous and apprehensive when I got there as its a normal GP clinic with other patients and even a family. I was wondering how to face the receptionists (2 girls) and tell them i was there for a hiv test. It would be so embarrassing and worse if the other patients waiting for their turn to see the doc could hear me. Luckily my friend was there also to encourage me and to also take the test together w me in show of support. Stepping into the glass door was the hardest part, everyting else was easy. We told the receptionist what we were there for and she proceeded to tell us what needed to be done ie fill up very short questionnaire, no id required, issued our numbers, told us not get our numbers mixed up as results r based on number issued and nothing else..very matter of fact and professional with no hint of judgement. When yr number is flashed, you go in and see the doc like any other GP. He asked me a few questions pertaining to why i was taking the test and why i think i might be infected. He commented that based on what i had told him its unlikely i would be infected. He then proceeded to prick my finger for blood which he puts on a litmus paper like thing and told me my number will be called again for the results. It was all quite fast. My friend and I chose to stand outside to wait for our numbers to be called again as we could see the display through the glass door. While waiting we realised later that almost everybody there before us who were sitting inside were also there for the same test and no one left with any medication. I didnt need to be apprehensive earlier. We also realised later that If your number is flashed again and you go in but are out within minutes means its all clear. Luckily for us both thats the experience we had.

Good to hear that. Nice feedback for the clinic.  They also have a blog/ forum on their website where the Dr himself will answer Q&A on HIV & STI matters.

No, I've not been naughty recently.

But I took it....just in case.

After going through it all, I realised that it is not simply a HIV Test. It is more a Free counseling to remind us to play safe.

First there is the questionnaire to fill up. Though they try very hard to disguise them, they are asking us about our sexual behaviors. That surely will cause those doing unsafe sex to pause and think whether to lie a little.

Then during the preparation stage they will encourage you to talk about your sexual habits AND WHAT will your response be if found positive. Suddenly all those naughty things I did even years ago came into focus. WHAT if I am so unlucky then how? Was it worth it?

Then after waiting for the finger pricking, fearing the pain and results, I only wished to end this quickly and end all this mental agonising.

When the sharp finger prick and drop of blood taken and applied to the test strip, it was another agonising breathe-holding wait watching the strip react.

Finally when the strip turned negative, it was a huge relief.

That's the purpose of the test. The mental agony will remind us to play safe all the time. The test will remind us even if we are tested negative this time round. It is never worth it for a moment of fun.

Bravo for those who devise this idea because for some people 不見棺材不流淚。

After a seemingly endless wait for one long week, my HIV screening results finally came back.

I was HIV negative. I was extremely relieved to find out that i was HIV negative. I can overemphasize how traumatizing it was to go through the mental torture of facing the possibility of contracting HIV virus. It was a terrible emotional turmoil that i wish no one would ever need to go through.

together with the test, i was also screened for syphilis, herpes simplex virus, chlamydia, which all came back negative. Again, i really strong urge those who are currently engaged in high risk sexual behaviour to think twice before doing it.

I feel really relieved and hope that this message can reach out to those out there.

May I know where you went for the screening?

I'm kind of new to this and I would like to get a full screening as well.. Please advise me.

And thanks for sharing. I think more of us people here should be aware of the risks and responsibilities that we bear.

I really cannot understand why there are still so many people out there who like to risk their lives (and their partner's) barebacking. Does it worth it?  :(

Mouth swap test - rapid - u can get results within minutes.

Blood sample ELISA test - reviews in a week or two.

Thanks. But do you know where to get full screening for STI? Any recommendation?

One don't have to haul one ass halfway across the island state to check for sexually transmitted diseases just at Kelantan lane for that.

Most private clinics do provide HIV oral quick or conventional blood testing and they can do a full range of STI testing for people too if they want. All they need is to collect your blood sample and send it to the lab.

I would say Singapore is still quite a fairly efficient country as long as one have the money to seek the service they want.

Like, those anonymous ones. Or those that do not discriminate and are gay-friendly?

Hi GachiMuchi from Singapore. I appreciate your reply despite the inappropriate tone and unhelpful comment.

For your information, I did do a search on Google and indeed there are lists of clinics for STI testing but I do not know if they are good, or if they are gay-friendly, or if they are actually over-priced. I just wanted to find out where do the people here normally go to for the screening, and perhaps the info will be helpful for other new guys reading the forum here as well. I don't see what's wrong with that and isn't that what a forum is for, sharing information and helping each other.

You asked me to read back all the posts in this topic. And I did, again. There is a list of recommended clinics, but all are from Singapore. I can't find a single one from Malaysia, let alone say Kuala Lumpur. Perhaps you can show me one or recommend me one.

And seriously, why bother to reply if you do not even have the intention to help but to criticize?

Not related to the above post i have posted up previously, this just a personal thought that come up.

I still don't understand what is the fuss and worry for going to get a HIV/Std test in the first place.

Doctors are there to provide a business service and if people need it just go to them for a check up.

And if people got test positive then go get treatment and eat their medicine.

It's just an illness like every other type of diseases and sickness.

Why made life so complicated for yourselves?

Thanks for the video. That place, PT Foundation. Yeap, I've already been there and done my HIV and Syphilis testing over there. They are really friendly and they give good counseling.

Unfortunately, those are the only two testing they provide. I'm looking for a full screening for a full range of STI, particularly in Kuala Lumpur.

There is no fuss or worry. But if you talk about private clinics, of course there are good ones and bad ones. And I strongly believe researching them before actually trying them one by one makes my life simpler. I don't see how it complicates life. But thanks for the opinion.

Maybe I should just give up asking around and randomly just go to the nearest private clinic to do a full STI screening. That seems to be what I am being advised right now. Sigh. :(

Hi guys, in case you need PEP treatment or you want a gay-friendly private clinic in Malaysia, there is one in KL Bukit Bintang,StarHxxx Gallery

Is it a Malaysia culture thing? :)

You are already enjoying cyber annoymousity in Internet and what you are doing is helpful and commendable but why give out a half complete information instead of a clearly spelt out address for the Malaysians who need the info?

I find it baffling and slightly amuse.

You are recommending a doctor not a brothel why so apprehensive? :)

I thank you for spreading awareness on HIV/Aids issues and the social emphasis on encouraging safe sex practise with condom.

The address are helpful too.

But I want to know.. Touchwood but let say if people went for HIV testing and got a positive result instead of a negative one.

What will happen at this point?

I always find information on this aspect quite vague and limited on whatever health board or organisation sites I visited.

Things like are there counsellor around to help people cope with the revelation of contracting HIVAids?

Where to go for medicine?

Is it expensive?

How much is the cost of medications in Singapore?

And what happen if people financial situation deny them of accessing proper medicine and treatments etc who should they turn to?

Can Medifund be apply?

These are the common worries and questions in the general population mind and a more candid approach and transparency on these topics is much welcome and needed indeed.

Many thanks in advance to you Oogachaga if you can answer or touch on these questions if possible. :)

Though it shouldn't even be you or any other social organisations that should come forward to address this. It should be ministry of health who should do all this instead.

What exactly are they doing all these years?

Sleeping? -_-

If you go to AFA at Kelantan lane, there will be counselors there to advise your next step..if you use the their rapid testing kit..they will take blood samples for further testing to confirmed the + status.

Where to go for medicine?

Once tested positive..the AFA will advise you where to seek treatments in sg..Malaysia and bkk..its up to you. At this point, it is still anonymous ...only when you go to cdc or similar to seek consultations..then your information will be sent to MOH...

Is it expensive?

Consultations charges varies...especially if you are seeing a specialist with a private hospital..and if you are going to cdc..then they will assign you a social worker to have you under the subsidized patient...blood test are rather costly though even for subsidized patients

How much is the cost of medications in Singapore?

Monthly cost of medications varies from about 100 to couple of hundreds a month...it depends on  your body's reaction to the medications.

And what happen if people financial situation deny them of accessing proper medicine and treatments etc who should they turn to?

Social worker from the hospital can help you to apply for the various schemes available.

Can Medifund be apply?

I don't think medifund can be used becoz hiv is not under the regular illness list.

Sleeping? -_-

Guest Concerned guy

I suspect I am infected with genital warts on my anus. Do you know of any doctors who are gay friendly? I think I am more comfortable with a male doctor. A female doctor may tend to be more judgmental perhaps. If I am not wrong, straight guys won't get genital warts on their anuses right?
