Tip of the day

Hang an octagonal mirror above your computer. A mirror placed to reflect your computer symbolically "doubles" its wealth generating capabilities as eight is the number of business and finance and Feng Shui strongly consider octagon as an auspicious shape.

3SITTING IN YOUR POWER POSITION

  1. Sit facing the door. Never have your back to the door as this will mean you losing out in any office politicking.
  2. Sit with a soild wall behind you.
  3. Sit with more space in front of you than behind you. If possible, have a minimum of three feet of space in front of you.
  4. Sit with windows to your left or in front.

My back is window in my office... unable to change the facing... anyway to 'block' off any unnecessities?

How to "Dot the Dragon's Eyes" to Protect Your Home from Danger & Create Good Abundance Energy

dragoneye01.jpg

The Dragon is the ultimate auspicious creature, which brings yang energy, protection and abundant good luck. With the presence of the Dragon in your home, you are able to enjoy good fortune luck that comes your way. Invite the Dragon into your home and dot his eyes so he comes alive. The following are the steps to take when attempting to dot your Dragon’s eyes:

  1. Choose a porcelain, brass or golden Dragon. Do not make your Dragon image too large. This could create unbalanced chi in the home.
  2. Select a Dragon day from the Chinese Almanac.
  3. Choose the Dragon hour, between 7am and 9am.
  4. Use a new brush and some red ink (preferably cinnabar ink) to dot the eyes of your Dragon.
  5. Make sure your Dragon is facing East when you do this ceremony
  6. Get an incense stick to awake the energy of the Dragon.
dragoneye02.jpg

After the ritual is complete, place the Dragon in your living room, if possible facing East. A Dragon can live inside or outside the home and still bring you an abundance of good luck and protection.

If your Dragon cannot face East, you can place your Dragon facing water, since the presence of yang water makes Dragon symbols awaken and exude the precious breath of chi. So when you create water feature in home, it is good idea to place at least one Dragon facing that body of water to bring prosperity.

Avoid placing your Dragon in the following areas:

  1. Never place Dragons inside the toilet or bathroom or even facing the toilet or bathroom.
  2. Never place a Dragon image in the South, the sector of Fire.
  3. Never position a Dragon image above a fireplace since this implies that the fire energy is burning him.
  4. Never have a Dragon image in the bedroom because it becomes excessively yang.
  5. Never place a Dragon inside a closet.

Using Dragon Rituals to Ensure Travel Protection

travelprotect01.jpg

With the current unstable earth energy and natural disasters around the world, it is vital to protect ourselves against all manner of bad luck when about to embark on a journey.

This ritual encompass the use of dragon fire energy, water energy, metal energy, earth energy and wood energy and requires you to perform some simple acts which take only a few minutes before you are about to set out on your travels.

The observance of these rituals ensures that if you happen to be starting out at an inauspicious time, on an inauspicious date, or if the karma of that journey brings you obstruction, inconveniences and bad business judgement, you will be guarded against any manifestations of bad feng shui.

At the least, these rituals guard against robbery, lost luggage and missed connections. At their shinning best, these rituals could save you from mortal danger.

First, determine the direction in which you will be travelling. Take this direction to mean from point A (your embarkation city) to point B (your destination city). Do the appropriate ritual just before leaving the house to set off on your journey.

1. When you are traveling West or Northwest, use a dragon incense holder and burn some joss sticks to create smoke; then, as the smoke rises, use three red candles and swipe the air in a wide broad curve nine times. The candle should remain lit. If the candle goes out, do it again until you are able to make nine clean sweeps in the direction you are traveling to.

2. Dragon water energy is required when you are traveling South. Look for a pail or water goblet that has a Dragon image on it. Just before leaving the house, fill the goblet full of water and then facing South, sprinkle water with your right hand once in Southerly direction.

3. Dragon metal energy is required when you are traveling East or Southeast. Look for a small curved knife with a Dragon image on its handle. The knife need not be very big, but it must be made of metal. Stand facing East or Southeast and extending your arms wide, use knife to swipe the air in the direction to which you are traveling six to seven times.

4. Dragon earth energy is required when you are traveling in the Northerly direction. Use porcelain bowl decorated with a Dragon for this. Place some earth inside the bowl and standing to face the direction you are going, sprinkle the earth eight times in that direction.

5. Dragon wood energy is required when you are traveling to the Southwest or Northeast. Use a freshly cut branch with leaves with a Dragon image tied to it. Swipe the air three or four times in the direction of your destination.

The Fine Art of Gift Giving

With Christmas round the corner, thoughts turn to getting suitable gifts for those we love and care for. This are the highlights some important feng shui taboos associated with gift giving. :P

Giving and receiving gifts is viewed with much favor in every culture. A gift “blesseth both he that gives, and he who receives”.

From a feng shui perspective, auspicious gift giving brings luck to both giver and recipient. Everyone benefits. It is a great blessing to be able to give, and to do so with the right mental attitude. Genuine goodwill sentiments should always accompany the act of giving.

Gifts should be wrapped in a bright yang color such as red or gold wrapping paper. Tying with a red or gold ribbon will activate an auspicious gift. This reflects a positive attitude and mirrors the goodwill you feel towards your recipient. It is even more auspicious to wrap a gift in yellow cloth, and silk is best. Never give a present wrapped in old newspapers, not unless you are giving fish and chips!

It can be thoughtless to use too much sticky tape requiring the recipient to tear up wrappings violently. Many of you must surely hate receiving hampers that are put together carelessly and with so much sticky tape. Hampers filled with leftover goods that have long passed their sell-by date are horribly inauspicious gifts… the negative energy attached to such hampers will do enormous harm to your relationships.

If you are a conscientious gift-giver, you would choose an auspicious day and time (look up World of Feng Shui’s almanac) to deliver your present. It is more auspicious to personally send a gift to the house of the recipient. Sadly, in this age of instant mee and convenience, it has become socially acceptable to shove a hastily sealed ang pow into the hands of your host at the hotel or restaurant. Even ang pows should be delivered to the recipient’s house, because you will symbolically be bringing good luck to their household.

What gifts are auspicious?

Almost any auspicious object makes an auspicious gift unless there are special circumstances that make it inappropriate. For instance, presenting a double happiness character or a pair of mandarin ducks to someone elderly who has just been widowed is the height of bad taste! One should also allow for cultural sensitivities. Thus it may be auspicious to give gold jewellery among Malaysian Chinese, but the Japanese would consider it too personal and definitely too forward. One must be savvy to local custom.

Avoid giving clocks and watches – these are inauspicious if given by a younger person to an older person. If the occasion is a birthday it is definitely taboo no matter who gives it. Similarly for hourglasses. These instruments measure the passage of time. No one can look at a clock and say, “Oh, I have more time now than a moment ago”. These objects symbolize time running out, so they are definitely not auspicious.

I have a very kind and generous friend who loves giving watches, even to business associates. Alas he does not have much luck in his relationships - his friends are rarely, if ever, there for him. What goes around just does not seem to come around for him.

Swords, knives, the kris and any kind of weapon or any representations of such things are most inappropriate. However, where such a gift is unavoidable, the recipient can give the giver a coin to neutralize the pernicious effects of the “gift”. The recipient has then symbolically “bought” the knife or sword. If this remedy is not put in place, the relationship can end or they will simply stop speaking to one another.

Another taboo gift are empty boxes, containers, receptacles, wallets, purses and so on. Never give anything “empty”. It is so incredibly inauspicious! If you receive a gift like this, put an ang pow in it filled with a couple of coins or a dollar note, and then give it away quickly to somebody else. This will instantly remedy whatever bad luck vibrations might have inadvertently been created. When you receive any empty container it also suggests the person giving you the gift has nothing genuine to offer you - and especially not friendship. Such a gift will also never prosper you.

Receiving a neighborly gesture requires a fitting response. If your neighbor sends over a pot of their secret recipe curry, please ensure that when you return the pot, you place some fruits or eggs in it. Better, still - reciprocate with your own special dish! Otherwise, the symbolism is that you have eaten them out of house! And you will be returning emptiness for goodness. Not nice!

Finally, always keep an auspicious gift for yourself. Do not give it away. This applies to everything including sweet chocolates given to you over Christmas. Never give away anything sweet that’s been given to you and delivered into your home. Keep these for yourself - they represent good wishes for you to have a sweet life, so they symbolize good fortune. Besides, there are really few things more tacky than a recycled gift.

Buy your own chocolates, your own wines and your own mandarin oranges to give to others. When you recycle gifts it symbolically means you are giving away your friendship with the person who gave you the gift.

Developing Concentration Through Meditation

Meditative energy and concentrated thought is what gives power to rituals and the performance of magic. The key to successfully manifesting positive outcomes from all your feng shui rituals lies in the ability to relax, to quiet the mind and to still the passages of thoughts until you are able to imbue all your practices with precise and powerful concentration. It is then when you can achieve maximum positive results.

In the early stages of your practices, keep things simple and proceed slowly with techniques that you understand and can relate to, and with benefits you can genuinely experience. Breathing mediations are ideal for calming the mind and developing the experience of insight. These are essential ingredients for successfully developing concentration.
The Seven Guides to Posture in Meditation

1. Legs:
The full lotus position with the feet placed sole upwards on the thigh of the other leg, is recommended. This is the preferred posture of many practising yogis or people capable of performing real magical feats produced by the mind’s power. You can also however meditate sitting cross-legged, with both feet on the floor. Placing a firm cushion under the buttocks will help to keep your back straight and reduce the “pins and needles” effect.

If even this posture is difficult for you, you can sit on a straight- backed chair with both feet planted firmly on the floor. You will find it you examine old pictures of the Egyptians that they are shown seated in this way.

And if even this difficult, try lying down with your back straight and your hands by your sides. This position is also acceptable. The only drawback of such a position is that you will find yourself falling asleep! When assessing posture, always be comfortable. You cannot get into s state of relaxation when your physical body is uncomfortable.

2. Arms:
Shoulders and arms should be relaxed. This improves circulation and helps to keep you awake. As for your hands, either rest them lightly on your knees, palm downwards, or hold them loosely on your lap with your fingers aligned.

3. Back :
The back must be straight, held relaxed but upright. It is when the back is straight that energy can easily flow through. A straight back is also conducive to longer periods of meditation. It is only when have succeeded in staying comfortably upright that you can really feel your mind relaxing and focusing more clearly. So make the effort to get it correct before proceeding.

4. Eyes :
Keep your eyes lightly closed and cast downward. This enables you to shut out distraction. But, it is not advisable to keep your eyes too tightly closed. It is said that closing the eyes causes drowsiness, but you should do whatever makes you comfortable.
