Guest Guest Posted June 25, 2022 Posted June 25, 2022 In United States, if you need a swim buddy, you can pay someone to accompany you for swim. In Singapore, I have seen Gumtree Singapore advertisemment, men looking for pacer/runner for marathon training. I am sure there is a market for swim-buddy. Advertise in Carousell Singapore/BW forum board for a paid swim buddy. Set the criteria, I am sure people will do it if the pay is right. Quote
axefactor Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Unless you are retired or have a flexible work schedule, it's really difficult to find a swim buddy to swim with you everyday. Plus not many people here are really keen to connect just to swim, if you get what I mean. sayfirst 1 Quote
Greenliv Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 Swimming is such a solo sport. How is a swim buddy going to swim at the same pace as you. Even so, how to talk while swimming? Quote
Enci Posted July 8, 2022 Author Posted July 8, 2022 Can swim at own pace but encourage each other Quote

I've spoken to a caucasian woman who swims regularly at OCBC and she does an average of 200 laps each time. Roomie 1 Quote
begleitung Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 Is one lap 50 m? Either way still impressive Quote

It's never easy to swim 30 laps unless you start small and eventually build up. Everyone goes through this phase when it comes to any sport. swimwithme 1 Quote

Hydration during a long swim is important. Not many people realise that you lose water when you swim continuously. You actually sweat when you swim. Which is why I have the habit of bringing along my water bottle and hydrate every 10 laps. ReubenH 1 Quote
wenkai Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 that's too much, every 10laps. maybe every 30laps ba Quote

Same here. I’ll gulp half a bottle every 10 laps. Absolutely right about the perspiration during swimming. Quote

Strangely, I don't feel thirsty after swims. Usually 20 laps. That said, I do make it a point to drink while on way to pool, top up my bottle and drink after my swim, even though I don't get a sense of thirst at all. Quote

You will be surprised at how much water you lose when you swim. You are working your whole body hard against water resistance. I'm sure you must have experienced intense sweating when you get out of the pool? Sometimes people don't realise that it's not always the number of laps that makes you exhausted. It's also the lack of water. HC-B 1 Quote
wenkai Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 lol, its the same for running ma. Dun expect to drink every 10-15mins during the run. For swim, usually dun see much pple doing more than 20laps. Usually will drink up after 30-40laps Quote
axefactor Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 Hydration usually depends on how you swim. Casual or going really hard. Those who train competitively usually cover at times 4km or more of distance. Therefore they need to hydrate more often but they dun take gulps of water at a go, only sips. The hydration is important as they are pushing themselves hard and that increases the body temperature which in turn affects their performance. Kimochi 1 Quote
Guest Guest-Yishun Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Very useful for discussions on swimming accompany. In future, I should drink some water in between of swimming. I usually swim 1km continuously once every two days if I swim only one person in the condo pool. If there are other neighbors, I will swim 1.5-2km non-stop even mostly not in same pace. That's why the accompany is importance as same as the jogging in theoretically. Quote
